With the increase in social networking sites recently, and the ease of use of thier APIs, I have implemented a new twitter feed that contains all of the new approved downloads here on MTS.
If you want to keep an eye out on the downloads without having to log into the site, please follow:
http://twitter.com/modthesimsinfo
I'll also be adding posting (with images) to the facebook group we have too, once I figure out the Graph API.
Don't forget to follow the twitter!

Ladies and Gentlemen and Llamas,
The Gnome here, bringing you some news!
The next expansion pack for TS3 has been announced, and it's called Late Night. Here's a trailer video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZcq9f72r2c
Early analysis: Hot tub, band set, bar, night clubs, tall building thingies. Oh, and vampires!

If vampires are not your thing, EA also has announced The Sims Medieval.
The game would be totally separate game from The Sims 3 series. It will introduce new types of gameplay, while retaining some of traditional ones. It's basically like the Sims Castaway Stories, only, like, Medieval! Here's a press release by EA - http://www.ea.com/news/get-medieval...the-sims-studio
And the official site: http://www.thesimsmedieval.com/

Both games have discussion going on in the Sims 3 Discussion forums! Get more info, pics, and talk about what you think there!
PS: Thanks Emino!

And finally, as the World Cup draws to a close, we realised that we have not yet posted on our winners of the Medieval Challenge Exceptional Awards.... So here they are, in no particular order, the exceptionals.
NPC Replacements: Mrs. Crumplebottom by sunni9676
As if Mrs. Crumplebottom wasn't unpleasant enough already, now she's covered in warts - at least your medieval sims can be beaten by a crotchety old woman in appropriate attire, with this exceptionally gigglesome addition.

---------------------------------- ----------------------------------
Build your own Cathedral by Hekate999
Every cathedral needs some stained glass, fancy masonry and ceiling vaults. And that's what makes this essential set so awesome - you can't build a cathedral without it!

---------------------------------- ----------------------------------
Playable Harp and Lute by Lois99
The first of its kind, fantastic playable instruments - an impressive technical feat, and an absolute requirement for any self-respecting medieval neighbourhood.

---------------------------------- ----------------------------------
Blackstone Castle by simgrl1934
Intricate, skillfully built, pristinely decorated and most certainly daunting in its fortitude; this castle is fit for kings, epic battles, and maybe even the occasional dragon.

---------------------------------- ----------------------------------
Candle-Town Temple-District by candlelight82
If it's authenticity you're after, this district is practically a hamlet in its own right - all on one lot, no less - and definitely a home to be sorely envied.

---------------------------------- ----------------------------------
A Medieval Castle! by sarah*rose
With stunning realism and a remarkable depth of creativity, this picturesque castle is sure to be the perfect landmark for any feudal neighbourhood.

---------------------------------- ----------------------------------
Bree Hills Hamlet by ninotchka
These beautiful, varied, and realistic little cottages with fantastic interior decorating are perfect for all those unwashed townie peasants - step inside and experience a peasants home!

---------------------------------- ----------------------------------
Robin Hood and Friends by Aligeth
Whether you're roaming the forest, looking distressed, or assuring sceptics that banditry isn't in breach of your vows, really - this beautiful set by Aligeth provides everything your simmies need to look stunningly rogueish!

---------------------------------- ----------------------------------
An enormous thank you to ALL the creators who participated and a special thank you to the exceptionals for providing us all with such awesome content for our games - whether TS2 or TS3

New Feature: Changes to the Post Thanks list for Creators viewing own threads
|
| Posted by Delphy, 20th Jun 2010 at 10:40 PM

Today I released a set of changes designed to do 2 things:
1. Cut down on the number of database queries, and above all, page generation time, when a creator views threads of thiers that have a lot of thanks (many hundreds or thousands)
2. Sort and filter the names of people who have thanked a thread.
To that end I have released a new style of viewing the post thanks for creators on thier own threads. Previously, you got a huge long list of people, not formatted, and that was pulled in when you first requested the page. This resulted in huge lists, and huge page load times - in the order of 93 seconds for some of mine.
Now, when the page loads, the thanks list doesn't load, and is instead loaded via an AJAX call. In addition, the thanks lists themselves are now sorted into 5 tabs. Friends, Featured Creators, MTS Staff, Creators and Members. Please note that non creators on this list are not loaded automatically, unless the number of thanks on a download is less than 50. Otherwise, an additional click will load the normal members too.
For an example, here is a screenshot from my Dashboard thread:

Note that I realise the "tabs" don't really "fit" with some of the themes, but this is deliberate, and I will be slowly updating the site to match them. Gotta start somewhere
Note 2: This doesn't show on the old style download pages - only on the new tabbed ones.
I hope you like this change, and please let me know any feedback you have.

7zip file support, and increase to maximum JPG filesize

Today, I have added .7z files to the list of accepted uploads here, and increased the maximum size of JPG files from 200,000 bytes to 250,000 bytes.
You can extract .7z files using any one of the extractors found here: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html (includes Windows, Linux and OS X links)
7zip is free, and can often achieve better compression results than .zip or .rar. Did we mention free? Yup, no nagware.
One caveat with .7z right now is that the site currently doesn't look inside .7z files for custom content, but this will be updated soon.

Game Update for 1.12/2.7/3.3
POSTED ON 05/28/10 05:34 PM
To install this update, please start your game and use the “Updates” tab in your Launcher.
This game update includes:
- This game update enables dynamic ad serving capabilities in The Sims 3. However, there are no immediate plans to activate any content of this kind. The Sims 3 EULA has further details. See http://www.ea.com/1/product-eulas.
- Lights placed on residential and community lots will now properly display onto the neighborhood
- Sims may now walk and stand on bridges
- Players who play The Sims 3 with game modifications can now create a folder in which to place their game modifications. The folder should be located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\YourComputer\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods
- When Mods are placed in the official Mod folder, a notification will appear to remind players that Mods are installed.
- Placing Mod packages into the Mod folder is an officially sanctioned way to bypass assembly signing verification. The Resource.cfg file must be placed in this folder in order for the modifications to work correctly.
- When Mods are installed that are incompatible, the player will receive a message notifying them of the error.
Additional bug fixes to existing features
Edit Town Mode
* Players may now add, delete, and move residential and community lots from the Edit Town menu
* Players may now add, delete, and move neighborhood decorative objects from the Edit Town menu
* Players may now purchase and upgrade neighborhood community lots using the new Real Estate system via the Computer
* When using the Library in Edit Town, lots will now display their venue type (i.e. Park)
Gameplay Changes
* Story Progression has been improved to prevent Sims required to complete Opportunities from changing.
* Sim genetics have been improved so that children now better reflect their parents’ skin tone and hairstyles.
* Sims can unlock outfit choices and share them with household members when using the “Plan Outfit” interaction on the Dresser.
Build/Buy Mode
* Players may now use Create a Style on Ceilings or add and delete them when in Build Mode
* Players may now use Create a Style on the edges of floor tiles
* When placing walls, rooms, foundations/decks, floor tiles, roofs, pools, fences, and basements the measuring tape tool will display to aid in more precise building.
* Wall Covering sets can now be found in a tab in Build Mode
* Players may now manipulate the roof pitch for individual roof sections when in Build Mode
* Sculptures can be found in a new Sculpture sorting category when in Buy Mode
Create a Sim
* Players may now use the Tattoo feature to customize Sims when in Create a Sim
* Players may now select the Fiancé, Girlfriend, and Boyfriend relationship settings when in Create a Sim
UI & Controls
* The user-interfaces for Sim View and Map View have been merged to provide more control and consistency between the two modes.
* The Opportunity interface has been improved to clearly outline the fiction, gameplay objectives, rewards, and Opportunity location for all Opportunities and Adventures.
World Adventures
* Certain Adventures and Opportunities will properly display in the Opportunities Panel when traveling between worlds

This update adds some very nice changes - not least of which, finally a user level Mods folder that bypasses assembly signing. The question is - do mods put in this new folder have the Custom Content flag, and do they show in Show Custom Content in game?
Let us know your thoughts!
If you're having problems with the patch...
Please remember to post about it in the Help section. There, we can help you one-on-one figure out what the problem is, and see if there's a solution. This also helps us with bug tracking as we can keep the info in one place and not get one person's problem confused with another.
If you are having problems, issues, errors, or questions related to the patch, please post in the Help section! Do NOT post issues with the patch on this thread please.

Welle, ye Medievale Challenge hath received a greate number of entries, an... no, it's too much of a pain without the filter.
We've had a fantastic number of entries for this challenge - over 80! - and, more importantly, they're all fantastic stuff. So the time has come to pick out the most exceptional entries; and, because of the huge numbers of great entries, we've had to split the shortlist in three.
You can vote for Sims 2 entries here.
Sims 3 lots, here.
And other Sims 3 entries here.
Voting will close in a week - Friday the 21st - so get a wriggle on, and remember that you can vote in all of the polls; you don't have to pick one.
The entries receiving the most votes overall will be declared Exceptional, and their creators will get a snazzy sticker on their profile, along with an ingame trophy.
In addition, all entrants will get another snazzy sticker on their profile, and an in-game trophy - including brand spanking new Sims 3 trophies!
This challenge has been great fun, and I hope you'll enjoy the fantastic content - so let the voting begin!
Voting is now closed - we'll be announcing Exceptional awards soon!
