Fairly urgent/frustrating problems with uni, PLEASE help!

Ok, so I had the DVD version of TS2 and that played fine (if a little slowly). I've just received both EPs from Amazon, and (sensibly) thought I'd install each separately and see how they worked.

So I installed Uni last night. The installation was fine, and starting up the game was fine. But when it came to opening a specific lot (any one) it doesn't open. I get the lighting up across the screen, then the whoosh back to plain blue (if that makes sense) then the cursor turns into the hourglass and revolves forever. I'm not talking about an impatient two minutes, I mean about 30 minutes so far. At least. I can access CAS fine and go through the whole process fine, and I can see the neighbourhood screen fine, I just can't access lots.

I did disk cleanup today on my hdd, and I've updated my driver and checked I've got the latest directX.

Its incredibly frustrating because I was so excited to play!! :( I really hope someone can help... I just can't think what to do... :mad:

Thanks very, very much for that link. I'd looked at it before when I searched the forum, but I wasn't sure it applied to me. I'm currently downloading the patch and I'm halfway through the other instructions.

I've got to step 5/6a, but the folder won't let me rename the "backup"/original folder, as it tells me its right-protected... is there any way to solve this? It doesn't mention it on the page... :S Hope you can help and that I'm not just being thick!!

Right click on the folder, select properties and you should be able to remove the read only status.

thats exactly the same problem i had a few days ago !

its weird that its since you installed Uni... but you seem to have a custom stuff that you downloaded that isnt working. It did that to me too, and it was a career ! i could load my game fine and i could load the neighborhood ! but as soon as i clicked on a lot or family it kept loading and loading and loading and loading and... ohh did i mention "loading" ??? well... it really pissed me off... did you download new stuff between the last time you played Sims and the time you installed UNI ? (if its what you installed) if so, you should check that... i found out its a career so I hope it is for you, cuz its loads of work to find out whats wrong.. my computer is slow and takes 10 - 15 min to load the entire game (with lot/family) !!! :insane:

Thank god I'm not alone!! I'm really hoping its a career... I keep disabling things on sims2pack, but I'm not really sure... I managed to get a new lot working, with one sim and no house, but my legacy house with five sims just isn't doing ANYTHING!

I don't think I downloaded anything between playing TS2 and installing uni... :S I'm going through the mammoth process... but its just not happening right now... :(

And now its sorted! Took ages to load, but its finally worked! Damn careers!! :P Cheers for the tip :)
