I downloaded a Sim and her proper mesh from mts2. The Sim appears properly in BodyShop and the CAS screen, but for some reason the dress does not show up in the neighborhood/lots. The sim instead is wearing a boring Maxis skin.

I don't know if this will help since skins are not objects per se, but is custom content enabled?

It most definitely is. In fact, after I turned them on I turned off the display screen asking about it before the game starts.

OUT OF INTEREST: What is your default that the skin reverts too? Is is that red capri thing and white shirt? Black jeans? I never had your problem, but i do have meshes missing (which i am too lazy to remove). There is only about 2-3 missing meshes in my game, so i dont really care...They show up as the capri-pants outfit or black jeans.
Maybe someone else can help you.:)

Is there a sub folder in your download? Move your clothing and mesh out of a sub folder. Then your clothing and mesh will show up. This happened to me recently. :)

Actually the default skin it reverts to is another dress. The new skin is supposed to be shannanagin's Edea Sim (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=114447). Was I supposed to download the mesh and Edea Simpack into the same subfolder?

Im downloading that skin now...i haven't got anything like her before...I'll check tonight to see if she works in my game and post here tomorrow. Im downloading the file from this website and the mesh from the other site.
- do you have a video AND graphics card? I can remember that when i started playing sims 2 i didn't have the (i think) video card (I cant remember - the one that doesn't always ship with a new PC) and some custom content didn't show up...but it did in bodyshop. Then i got the card and everything works now, except the ones for which i don't have meshes.
- - -Nightlife was supposed to enable sub-foldering...it shouldn't make a difference

Uh oh. I'm now wondering if that's the problem. I have the Intel Graphics Extreme that was shipped with my system. I didn't think I needed a video card for my PC because it's power is more than enough to play the game without a problem.

Yeah...a video card makes the game go much quicker. I could never play community lots before, but after i got the video card it was fine.
- - -Just to make sure...i'm talking about the card they install at the back of the PC and then your screen gets plugged into that hole, not underneath the powerplug at the top. Am i making sense?
I downloaded that sim, but the download was corrupted, and it installed about half the stuff there should be. So i'll redownload today, maybe it'll work, otherwise i give up.

But the gamplay does not give me a problem, whether in community lots or anywhere else. And the thing is that all of my other custom sims work without a problem. I've downloaded complete sets, such as other Final Fantasy Sims and they work fine within the game.

Well i have no idea...i downloaded her now, and it should be fine...ill go and test on mine tonight. It could just be a setting, or maybe try downloading/installing her again

The sim works perfectly on my machine...what i meant by having a video card is not necc. that if you dont have one your game runs slower than normal...I meant that that getting one made all my dodgy custom content suddenly show up where they didn't before AND increased the performance. Its just a suggestion though, and your problem probably is something else.

It's gotta be some other problem. I tried creating the Edea sim again but it still didn't work. Yet any other custom sim/skin I download works fine in the lots.
