View Full Version : I'm stumped.

I started a stylist salon in one of my familly, and eventually, my sim failed a makeup job and gave the other sim an ugly full face makeup. The other sim got pissed and left.
I obviously didn't want my neighborhood full of ugly sims, the sim in question was from another of my lots, so I quit and loaded up that one.
I went to a mirror, and changed the appareance of the sim. I couldn't find the one the failed job gave my sim, so I just picked another full face makeup, then removed it.
This did remove the full face makeup from my sim, but not from the Avatar on the bottom of the screen when I select the sim. Usually when you use the mirror the avatar update, and the avatar change position a little every time. Sometimes it's watching right, sometimes it's posing, and so on. But now it's frozem in the "Bad makeup job" stance and I can't change it.
Is the only way to fix the problem by having the sim go back for another makeup? (I tried clicking on the sink, shower and everything I could think of, but I couldn't find any "wash off" option or anything.) If so this really stupid. What if the sim in question is a townie and just leave and doesn't come back in ages? Do you end up with tons of ugly townie wandering around town?
I'm really pissed at Maxis for this "feature". Way to ruin a neighborhood. Not only is this looking really stupid on the sim, but her husband has full face makeup as a turn off!
Can anyone help me out with this?

Hehe, I think that the bad makeup is a definite improvement for some of the Maxis townies!
I think that if you've changed your sim's appearance and makeup, the avatar should change once you save and then re-enter the lot. And I guess the only option for the townies is to give them another makeover.... offer them a free makeover!

No, I saved, quit and re-entered the lot, and the avatar is still frozen and showing the bad makeup even if the character in the game doesn't have it anymore.
But like I said, in the change appareance screen, in the list of full face makeup, the bad job one wasn't there, I just put another one over it and then removed that one, so the game still think my character has the ugly one.
Well, the problem with townies is that you have to wait until they visit your lot to give them a makeover. I guess you could try calling them over with the phone, but you have no friendship with the random townie, and you just lost some after the bad makeup job, so you're probably negative, I don't think they would come over.
Then there is the fact that a starting makeover sim is going to fail a lot, so you'll end up with tons of ugly sims.
I can't play the makeover familly anymore, they had invested all their money in their business and I can't let them ruin my game. I can't play the bad makeup familly, because it look plain stupid and the husband hate full face makeup.
And this isn't realistic either. I'm trying to play a serious neighborhood, and there's no way a real stylist could fail that bad, and even if it happened, you would just have to clean your face. I don't want an army of sims going around looking like clowns.
Is there any way to get rid of those makeup without getting another makeup job? I was hoping maybe it would leave after a while, but I don't think that would work with townies.
This is totally ruining the game for me. Since I got OFB I was playing every days, and I haven't played every since this happened two days ago, it just piss me off.

I start making all the funny faces in the neighborhood.
I keep funny makeups on some of sims.
Just love to see them w/ that.
However, as for the question, my game does not have the problem. The av will display correctly according each sim when they visit a lot.

Yup. From the Maxis BBS:
In order to remove the make-up effect of a bad make over you must:
1. Select any Mirror > Change Appearance
2. Go to the Costume Make-up tab and select any make-up type.
If you wish to remove this make-up type, just select “Remove Selection” after choosing it and the Sim’s features will be back to normal!
It's supposed to be fun, it may not be realistic but once your stylists get some badges the townies will all be looking a lot better.

Did you try changing the look of a sim that has the failed makeup, or are you talking about sims in general?

I'm sure changing the appareance of townies to something you like is really fun, but this whole thing is totally unbalanced, in my opinion. Changing the look of townies doesn't give you any ingame advantage, and yet the disadvantage that come with it is really annoying and a lot of work.
I can understand the different bots having big disadvantages, since they have a big effect on gameplay. Having them around you don't have to cleanup, for example, so it's justified that they should break every once in a while and give you trouble, so that they don't end up so good that everyone get them.
But changing the appareance of townies is something that's more of a fix that a bonus. Townies are horrible. People have been asking for a solution for ages. There's no reason to make it so problematic by having a chance to make the townies worse.
And other professions don't have such a big disadvantage that affect all of your game. You can pretty much make as many cakes, flowers and robots as you want, and it won't ruin your game or affect it at all. I don't see sims spontaniously blowing up when they try to buy a cake or toy. Styling is the only profession with such a big a annoyance attached to it.
Oh well... I guess I'll have to try and mod or a find a mod that disable that "fun feature". :(

Try going into debug mode and reseting. That fixes a lot of stuck behaviors and the like.

It's a feature Maxis obviously thought we'd like! All I can suggest is offering the townies a free makeover for now, and maybe sim surgery will help when SimPE is working with OFB.

I had a similar problem when one of my sims grew up and autonomously changed into a really ugly outfit, and the posing avatar when you select him was stuck with it, no matter how often i changed the clothes.
If you use the insimenator hack/object/whatever you call it, you can go into ageing part of it (i forget what its called) and, after taking note of the number of days your sim has left in the current age bracket, choose "Reset Age Duration" which will bring them back to their maximum days remaining in their current age duration; and reset their posing avatar.
With my sim, i just did that over and over until he was wearing a good outfit (and i think i scored some free clothes too.... not sure about that though)
When you're happy with the posing avatar, you can just subtract days from the sims' age duration until it's the same as it was before.

SimPE is really great, but seriously, I don't think closing the game and going to edit the files every time a townie end up with a bad makeup and wander off the lot pissed off is any less trouble than waiting and hoping he'll come back sometime soon, before you mess up other sims and they too leave, while hoping you can change them back to normal faster than you freak them up. We shouldn't have to rely on cheating or program from outside the game anyway.
I don't know any other item mess up that has a long term effect on the game like that, I'm not sure what they were thinking.
If they'd been smart, they'd just have made it so that after you mess up and the sim see his ugly look, your sim fix him back up to normal. The failure penalty would then be that you end up losing extra time on that client, and he's pissed off too. That's way better than having them just leave the lot like that. If you went to a stylist and he made you look like a clown, would you just leave like that and keep it for a week until you can get another appointment, or would you have them fix this now?

Did you try changing the look of a sim that has the failed makeup, or are you talking about sims in general?
Yes, I did.
I usually either let sims who have failed makeup come to the chair themselves or offer them w/ free or not free salon/make over.
Sometimes I even try to add "stuff" upon their failed makeup and have a lot of fun ... :P
