Give it a try. It is quite simple, and it feels really good to make some content.

:help: I can't open Home Crafter. Everytime I click on it, nothing happens and two other files appear. What's wrong? I tried to uninstall it and reinstall it but it does the same thing.

i tried downloading HomeCrafter but when i try to Load it nevers loads or even pops up .Any advice?
pokedude9777
1st Jan 2009, 2:08 AM
Just leave it for a while. Having most eps and sps slows the load time. You could also move your entire downloads folder to your desktop temporarily, just before you start homecrafter. Then place it back where it belongs when your have closed homecrafter.

You have to download Homecrafter from the official site, it's not included in the game. HP has a link in the first post of this thread to download it.
I have downloaded Homecrafter but for some reason it will not open whatsoever. What should I do?
pokedude9777
3rd Jan 2009, 8:44 AM
Click the homecrafter icon, then leave it for a few minutes, as it may take a long time to load.

Is there any way possible to do these kind of things without Photoshop or Gimp or... Others. Can't i just use paint?
pokedude9777
4th Jan 2009, 7:18 AM
Yes, but, only VERY basic stuff. And by basic I mean like one solid colour for the whole thing. You really should use a proper program.Gimp and Paint.net are very good, and they both cost nothing.

winniedory - Please actually read the info in the tutorial. MS Paint -won't- do what is detailed in this tutorial. You are given several options, including plenty of free ones, to use, and the editing part of the tutorial is shown using a free editor as well as Photoshop.

Hi!
Thanks for the tut (didn't remember to thank when making my first walls and floors with a help of this tut).
Now I'm asking if it's possible to make only half reflective walls? I'm making kitchen walls where is a part of wallpaper covered with glass above the kitchen counter level and below the upper cabinet level. Other wise the wallpaper won't need the "glass cover" and could be normal. Is it possible to implement that?

Well, your tutorial is the one i'm start with, and it's absolutly great! Very easy to understand with a lot details! I have to say: Thank you very much!!
And I'm about to follow your tutorial step by step, so after I go over your tutorial, I went to sims2's website (which you listed above), then I reallized i have a problem...My homecrafter's really not working at all. ( That really sucks.)
So I quited. :(
But still, I love your tutorial!!! And it really helps! ( in some other way. Like the PS skills...) (>w<")
:anime: Thank you~ hope I could study some other of your tuts soon! :bunny:

While HomeCrafter is open and I'm trying to make a new wall paint (I'm stuck on step 4 for that part), my paint looks all white and ugly! What do I do to fix this?
EDIT: When I try to make HomeCrafter use one of my wall textures, it's just all black... I even replaced the template with my own texture, but it turned black, too! Only a small portion of the baseboard and crown moulding appeared, along with the blackness.

I'm stumped.......I've checked and double checked what I did and I have gone through all the steps outlined. I have had no problem creating the items, and then importing them to the game. My propblem is that after I go through all the steps, the files do not show up in my My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads folder. I do have items I downloaded from others and they work fine. Any suggestions on what the problem may be?

Where are my creations located?
Would be interesting to put the link to the Sims 2 WTF (Wall, Terrain and Floor) Editor @ DJS Sims (http://www.djssims.com/index.php?category=1&subcat=5). Description: [...] batch rename all the Walls, Terrain Paints, and Floors in any given directory so that they will have the same filename as their internal name.
Pratical and more easy than remane one by one im SimPE.

Okay and now I have another problem.. I follow the tutorial to a tee and everything looks great. When I try to import it gives the message "There is not enough disk space to export the selected textures." What exactly does this mean and how can I fix it so I can make my wallpaper? [Sorry I don't know if this is a homecrafter issue, or a newbie issue on my part. Thanks!]

Is it possible for a tutorial on how to make reflective floor and wall tiles?
I saw somewhere someone knows how to make them and I am all about learning cool new tricks to do with my photoshop, so is there any way you can email me and let me know if this is a possibility?
Thanks, James

i had this same issue when I tried to install the HCP the first time, apparently the program doesn't support certain aspects of newer games but have no fear they figured out how to do it.
Go to Game Help on this site and look up Home Crafter Plus help, follow that to the Tee and it will be okay, it fixed the issue for me in a jiffy. That is when I decided to do it the right way after 3 weeks and 100 wrong tries.
Good luck!!

hey thanks for the link to the inspiration gallery!! cool stuff there.
I really would like to know how to do reflective floor tiles but I can't find any info out there on how to create them, I am looking to make something with a wooden or marbled feel to it, it has to be better than that flat white and black checkerboard that came with the game.
Can someone help me please?

reflective, like mirror? You have to work with Shader... like Muranos and Numenor did. Take a look: http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=241986

First, I'd like to say how much I love this tutorial. I've been through it a few times now, and it's helped me immensely! Thanks a lot!
Second, this is probably going to be the *dumbest* question on earth, but any suggestions for how to go about renaming a *large* number of wallpapers? Say - 42? *winces* I made them all in Homecrafter, replete with long descriptions (which I'd really rather not have to redo), before I realized it wouldn't name them as I'd titled them. (I hadn't read that far in the tutorial, *blush*.) So now I have 42 walls all named "wallxxohmygod".package and I'd like to rename them properly.
As a side note: I've tried using Sims2Pack Clean Installer to do this, but my version isn't working since I've upgraded to Windows Vista. (When I hover over the name the detail information flickers so you can't read it. Among other problems.)

I'm having a bit of a problem with floors created in HomeCrafter...
I make them as the guide says, and save and import them into the game. In the HomeCrafter program the floors look just fine, but when I get into the game and look at them in the catalog I see that they've turned purple. Not completely purple, but they've been giving a purple tint.
I've tried and tried to fix this. I've tried changing the sizes of the floor images, resaving them, remaking them, setting different options, and so on... Nothing changes it.
The walls and ground covers I've made turn out just fine in-game, but all of the floors I make have a purple tint. This isn't the case for all of the floors, just the ones I've made...
Any clue what's going on here?

Thank you for this tutorial. I am just beginning to think about creating. Question. Was wanting to use some scanned photos. My scanner has 300 dpi, 600 dpi and 1200 dpi. Which one should be used? Also, the photo is 8x10 inches. Can it just be reduced to the one size for Homecrater or do you still have to tile? I have Paint Shop Pro. Can this be used instead of Paint.Net? Thank you.

I wonder why people think that gimp is so bad. I used photoshop for some time, and I couldn't find many differences. I know is better, but Gimp is a great tool! And the latest versions had lots of filters, so I think you must change the part of the tuto that talks of Gimp (or at least put an "Updated" part or something). Anyway is just a suggestion, you're free to do what you want, of course.

Homecrafter doesn't work... I can click the homecrafter icon 20 times and it doesn't do ANYTHING. It doesn't show up in the task manager when I bring that up either. I really wanna make cc, I'm horrible at clothes and I thought maybe I could be halfway decent at walls/floors/groundcovers before I go back to clothes. I kinda wanna learn how to mesh eventually. I downloaded the Kitchen Basic and the new-kitchen-whose-name-I-already-forgot from buggybooz yesterday and thought it would be awesome if I could learn how to make furniture. Lol, I go on and on and on all the time. I can't ever make a short post. Anyways, do you have any ideas on how to get homecrafter to work?

try deleting the groups cache and accessory cache from the ea games/the sims 2 folder in document and setting.. sometime homecrafter takes a lot of time to work, but it's faster if you delete those two files.. and they are safe to delete.

Amen to that, I feel like we have been abandoned just because our computers aren't as 'popular' as Bill Gates' creation?

I've been making some walls and floors lately and everything seemed fine, they look great in Homecrafter and all but when I was going to use the floors in the game they were black, both in the catalog and when I use them on the ground. Pitch black. And just the floors, the walls looks the same as in Homecrafter. I've done floors before this and they look just fine but the new ones are suddenly turning black in the game.
I read through this tutorial and thread in hope of finding an answer and I've searched elsewhere but can't find anything that could fix this so I would really appreciate it if someone could help me.

What about floors? I made a floor of 512x512 and chose 2x2 tiled. Which size does MAC require in this case?

It is my understanding that Mac user's floors, walls & groundcovers will work if you use the template size. For floors this is 256x256.

Thank you very much for your quick response. :)
So, for Macintosh it can only be 256x256?
The effect would be gone then, because by using a 512x512 texture file on 2x2 tiling will show an enlarged texture in game.
When I use a 256x256 texture file and choose 2x2 tiling, the texture will become rather blurry.
No way to solve it?

The OSX version just needs the texture in a power of two. So 256x256 or 512x512, 256x512 or 512x1024. The 512x512 for a 2x2 section should work.

Thank you, HugeLunatic!
I'm a Windows XP user, creating walls and floors for uploading.
Mac users told me about problems with my walls, which I did 256x768, and floors of 512x512 size, so I was wondering about the floors.
Thanks again for info.

I can't see the tutorial pictures either. :( I can probably muddle through the rest of it, but the first one that shows you the sizes you need for your tiles... Seems kinda important. I'm using Paint.NET. Help?

I downloaded Paint.NET, but it wouldn't allow me to open more than one copy of itself at a time. Is there a specific version I am supposed to use for this? Please PM with help...

On another board, Delphy has informed us that these tutorial pictures were stored on a server that went down and had no backup. But the tutorial itself is well written, if you're the type of person who can learn from text without pictures. :)
I also discovered that when I opened HomeCrafter and started messing around with it, there were blank size templates already set up.

I was having that problem too. But it seems maybe paint.NET reinvented themselves because after a few minutes of frustration, I opened a "new" blank window and the old template stayed open as well. I could switch between windows in the upper right corner.
Hope this helps!!

Re-Written in brief for the 'updated' version of Paint.NET. No pictures. Sorry! :) This isn't meant to replace the original tutorial, just some points that might help on your way through.
1) Find your texture and save it as an image file on your computer.
2) Open Paint.NET.
3) Open a template (For walls: 256 pixels by 768 pixels, for floors: 256 X 256). Open your texture. Both windows will stay open and you can switch between them in the upper right corner of the program.
4) Size your texture - HystericalParoxysm's original tutorial is a great help.
5) To sharpen the picture you now go to Effects -> Photo -> Sharpen, but it seems to do this automatically.
6) Copy and paste your texture into the template. Add borders, add noise, fluff, etc.
7) For walls, re-size to 256 x 512. Floors are fine.
8) Save.
9) Follow HP's steps to change them over to game tiles.

If you are using the Clean Installer, then it will install in the folder which is specified in the install dialog.
Where you look depends upon your operating system. On Window XP, I look under My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads.

Hi, I don't know if anyone is still monitoring this page, but I noticed noneof the images work anymore. That makes it a teensiest bit harder to follow, but anyway, that's not the biggest issue I have. I was all fine and dandy until I imported my file to homecrafter. There, it showed up with big black sections in between every one of my sections in the preview pane. Any clue asto what I did wrong? All my sizing is correct, or seems to be at least.
Hopefully one o you amazing people know. Thanks in advance, Wolfie.

Just to get it out of the way, in case you missed it -- did you look at it with the grid view off? If you look in the left side under the image, you'll see that option. If the grid view is on it looks like bold black lines.
Otherwise -- sometimes I find that a perfect-looking image has an adge issue once I bring it into Homecrafter. I just go backl to the graphics program and snip the edges and resize and try again. Usually it works then. Even if the image looks exactly the same when I'm through with it as it did the time before.

Yeah, we're not talking like thin black lines, we're talking like one thin, stretched to be tall version of my thing, then a section of solid black the size of three of the stretched out version of my thing, repeat the pattern. That's what shows up in the preview. Wait a second... it IS supposed to me 256 by 512 PIXELS, right?

Nevermind about my previous comment. I tried the wrong file today on accident (the one I had so much trouble with yesterday) and, without changing anything, it worked today for some reason! No clue why it did that, but whatever, it works now! Thank you for the kind suggestions.

It's not as if I really expect an answer, but I am going to try. I downloaded homecrafter. I have GIMP, which is a new program for me. I was used to PSP 7. Paint.Net has a file issue with the dll files. I am at a loss right now on how to create anything in my game and to share. Any answers for this dll issue or do I just need to get out my PSP 7? I am not confident with GIMP. I don't know much about it.
EDIT: it's now 5/6 months later. I went back to Paint Shop Pro and now I recolor hair, and do just about everything I can think of. I even opened my own TS2 site and forum. I learned on my own and from reading tutorial's. I was used to alpha's and creating anyway. I found that Sims 2 is really no different. Alpha files, raster layers, alpha edits, and so on.
