very frustrating issue here, as all are... please help if you can.

i've had ts2 for 6 months without problems. for my b-day last week i got all 3 eps and installed them all in order. i've played the game now about 5 times, using the ofb disc as the game told me to, and all the ep features worked fine.

today i put in the ofb cd and it said "please insert the correct disc," something along those lines. my disk is really clean. like, probably better than new. no scratches or dust at all and i cleaned it anyway. i read every help post on this site and the faqs, no luck.

so i uninstalled everything, hardcore. removing all traces of simness. then i went back to square one and tried to reinstall. then i had the same problem with the original ts2! "please insert disc 1". it's already in. :insane:

i'm guessing its a problem with my cd drive (i have 2 though, and i've tried it in both; no luck). what are the chances that my pc (and both its cd drives?!) f'd itself up overnight and what can i do?

1) Try another CD not related to Sims 2. Some other game or data CD. See if your drive's working for anything.

2) If that works okay, try putting the CD in, rebooting, and then trying to run/install. Some people have luck doing so after a reboot.

3) Shut down EVERYTHING else running, especially antivirus software, disk utilities, and emulation software.

Hi there,
Just a thought here, by any chance did you update any drivers? I recieved the same message and after banging my head into the desk for a month I realized I had updated all drivers and forgotten the chipset drivers. Once updated it worked fine.
good luck.

hysterical: i rebooted and tried a music cd; that worked. i kept trying different really old games to see if they'd work (sim park, some trivial persuit game, and the sims 1) and i always got "16 bit windows subsystem: c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. the system file is not suitable for running in MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose "Close" to terminate the application". (i also ctrl-alt-delete closed aalllll else that was running. except the duh things.)

couchpotato: forgive my ignorance but i'm not sure if i've updated drivers or if i did, how i'd go about 'fixing' that.. can you explain?
