When you open objects.package in SimPE in order to clone an object or career or any other reason do you always use the original Sim 2 objects.package or the latest expansion pack's objects.package? I made a custom career using the original Sims 2 objects.package and cloning the slacker career and it works with my game (I have all expansions and extra packs) but when I was trying to look at the Natural Scientist career it wasn't in the original (obviously) and I found it in the Uni folders. Just to clarify, does it actually matter which objects.package you use?

not sure if I really understand you but here's my reply to the question I think your asking.

If you go to the prefence settings in SimPE and click FileTable you will see all the expansion packs listed. The ones with thet checkmark in the box are the ones you currently loaded in SimPE. So if you only have the "orginal game files" checkmarked, SimPE will only load the orginal game objects/carrers etc without any of the extra coding that may of been added to the .package file in later EPs. This will make your object "base game compliant" (able to be used with or without EPs.) If you cloned the same object with both the "Orginal game files" and say, "Business game files" then your object would require OFB to work properly. So if that answers your question, then yes, it does matter what .objects.package file you use.

the objects.package of the EP always copntains all previous EP's files. if you want to make it compatible with as many expansions as possible, you should, unless you know of upward compatibility errors or you are copying globals/semiglobals, in which case you shoud use the latest EP, use the EP the feature was introduced. This might be a very complicated sentence.

This is not always the case. If no changes to object were introduced with the EPs, then it may still be base game compatible even if the EP files were included while cloning.

So in simple terms, what you are all saying is use the base game objects.package when cloning unless making a object/career for a specific EP or the object/career was introduced in an EP so then use that EP?

EDIT: I also just want to claify, does that mean I should use the Uni objects.package if I'm editing a Uni Career? I want to edit the Natural Scientist career as the Ecological Guru (level 10 job) work times are all messed up. They are supposed to work from 12pm - 9am but that's like 21 hours! Call the union!
