View Full Version : Recategorizing to Male AND Female

Sorry, I know I just asked a question some time earlier, but this is totally unrelated.

In the Property Set of a recolor package we have the gender value, and I take it 0x00000001 is for female and 0x00000002 is for male, and I know changing one into the other works successfully before, so I tried 0x00000003 to make the item appear in both sexes. It appeared in Body Shop on both male and female, even single recoloring works for both of them properly (and I noted the bmp files are now named "afm..." instead of just "am..."). But in the game (CAS), the item just shows up on the male and not the female, even though the proper thumbnails appear on the female as well.

Anything else I need to change in SimPE for this to work? Before I resort to making separate recolor files for the female (which seems like a waste of space if they just point to the same mesh).

(And isn't this why the age values are in hex binary? 1, 2, 4, 8, 10, 40 -- so we can add them and get unique combination values if we want to categorize into more than one age group. Just thinking...)

What kind of item is this, it must be hair? or an accessory?

First paragraph under 'other bits of information'
If an accessory, there's probably a similar property that you missed.

Thanks, it did the trick. It's hair; actually a modified gorilla head, but I thought the question might apply to accessories and clothing too.

You sure have helped me a lot of times, thanks for the patience :D Infocenter sure is useful; must remember to check there first the next time. I suggest adding the fact that it's possible to add the age/gender values. And maybe the values themselves as well for reference. Anyway, thanks again.

Infocenter articles assume you have some basics down and that if you're doing something non-standard (99% of the hairs cannot be shared across gender in teens and adults) that you'll apply the extra brain power. It also assumes mastery of materials covered here in bodyshop skinning - like the numbers for age/gender and basic recoloring.

Being as your question comes because you're modifying a mesh, it's likely the specific answers will be in the meshing area -- most skinners would be disappointed with results if told - hey you can change the gender like this - and then find they need new meshes for it to work right!

Ah I understand completely, seeing I experienced this disappointment firsthand some time before :D
