It will tell you on the TS2 website what issues it fixes. You should go there to check it out! :D

Yes!! Definetely one of my favourite fixes!

Bugger, I actually thought that was quite nice. :(

are you sure these are new? I thought they had patched OFB and Family Fun before? There is nothing on the main site to say they are new patches....I am so confused!
I have already installed one Family Fun Patch would this cause my game harm if I end up reinstalling the same patch?

I am in the same situation as ZenFrog76 is, I have no clue whether or not these are new patches.

I have just purchased FFS and not yet installed it, but I know there was a patch already released before, and this apparently is a new patch, but no info available anywhere on whether or not this patch includes the fixes of the previous FFS patch...

If I remember well the previous patch was released just after FFS because too many people were screaming for some major bugs, actually most for FFS then for OFB, something about dresses.
I'm not sure of the problem because I installed FFS only when that "for-now" patch was released, thus I didn't experience the bug.
Maxis decided to correct immediately those problems while working on a more complete patch. This should be that one, the ultimate patch for FFS and OFB.
As for other patches, remember to backup your files before installing (if you don't use to back up regularly, that's a good chance). Kiss and ciao.

Yes, you can find the news in the TS2 News Archive, April 24, 2006 for FFS and March 21, 2006 for OFB.

Even after the last patch for OFB, there were still glitches left over that needed to be fixed, so I'm really pleased the next new patch is here.
Thanks for the info :)

If you own FFS & have installed the first patch & get a error when installing the new patch you can fix this by replacing objects.package from your FFS cd then install the patch I had to do this in order to get the patch to install, this file is located in "compressed.zip" under the folder "TSData\Res\Objects\"

When you try to install the EP3 patch if you get a error about the file "Ea games\The Sims 2 Open For Business\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins\globalcatbin.bund le.package" just copy that file from the EP3 cd & the patch will install for you, this file is located in the file "compressed.zip" under the folder "TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins\"

**Note: both folder names above are inside the file "compressed.zip" on your cd, the file "compressed.zip" is located in the root directory on your cd(i.e. D:\ )**

I made the mistake of not taking my downloads folder out which contains Hacks and I now have to re-install OFB which I'm not sure how to save what I want.
So now I wish I hadn't downloaded the patch. Still you live and learn!

They did fix some of things that I've seen a help questions recently (just a few of the fixes):

* One of the two Adult Sims will now be able to go to work if a Toddler is left at home without a babysitter.
* “Offer Makeover To…” interaction now leads customers to browse the Salon Chair.
* Successful makeover for controllable customers now fixes previous failed makeovers.
* and most importantly, Moveobject cheat can now be used to manipulate and place objects in out of bounds tiles.

This might help

But, I'm also not able to get the new patch to install, and I have my downloads folder removed from the EA folder. I've also backed-up everything.
I keep getting the message that there is an error (it doesn't give any details of what the error is) and that I may have to uninstall and then reinstall OFB. Tried d/loading the patch again, but still get the same thing.

I'm a tad confused about this? if you have FFS, why woudl you use the EP3 patch? you'd dl and install the FFS patch (which includes all the OFB updates). Or am i misunderstanding something here?

Just realised that I am getting the OFB one that squinge mentioned. The install process has stopped at that file, I just didn't see it as the warning message popped up on top.
Thanks Squinge

I've included a screenshot of where I'm looking, am I in the wrong folder? I've looked in the others as well...no luck

You know ... I saw that I had that problem, too. But the thing, is the pictures aren't really gone. They're there. For me, I saw this kind of "blue box" on the floor where the photobooth picture used to be. When I put up the walls and then click that blue box ... and moved it around, the picture reappeared and I was able to put it back where it was.

They are there *technically* but it seems as though they want to keep turning blue. I have tried to fix it by putting it in the inventory then putting it back on the wall, but the image on the object always reverts back to blue.

I had installed the previous updates as well, after reading what the new patches fixes, they are different then the first release. I removed my download folder, and installed bother patches. If you have OFB, and FFS, when you go to install the patch for OFB, it will tell you that you will have to also install the latest patch for FFS. I did not have any problems at all.

I have updated my FFS from EA US Maxis since 26-04-2006 for FFS.
Also, I have question, is this really a new update from EA Maxis? Or only a mistake from Maxis?
Please, if this is really an update, just tell me, and I'll download the new version (but, as you know, it's a huge work, every time you update your game in that manner)

The fact is that I've visited the US EA Maxis site and I can see this as being something that this is shown as a new DL?

But I am not sure it is really a new one?

Thanks for your help.

I'm afraid to install this . . . I'm backing up my downloads right now and have to try out something before I install it . . . Installing patches or new expansion packs always scares me. 8^|

The only thing worth mentioning is the move_objects fix . . . that's been annoying me since OFB . . . Glad they fixed that!

As far as I know White93GrandPrix if you have OFB and FFS you only need to download the FFS patch and install it.

I've done so with my own and it seems to work as intended. I have TS2,EP1,EP2,EP3,FFS and the Holiday Special one.

EDIT:After testing more I did realize for some odd reason the patch erased my More Impossible(sp?) countertop table. Well, ok it wasn't erased it was still there but there was no image for it and it read No Picture and when placed it was a nonexistence table and could not be deleted or used.

However I was able to fix this problem by taking the objects.package from the compressed.zip on my FFS CD and replacing it with the one that was on the harddrive. Patch still works and everthing else seems to work as far as I can tell at this time, hopefuly it stays that way.

I have the EP3 Patch which seems I downloaded in March 23, 2006. Do I still need this updated one?

EDIT: Ok read the post, and I believe you are right. From what I gather from that post... to get the full effect of the fixes I need the updated OFB patch after all. So both patches it is. Thanks again lexiconfusion for informing me about that post, most helpful.

I do believe I will ignore this "patch" until it is "patched up". I nearly had a heart attack when trying to download this patch when I got the error message regarding "may have to reinstall". :wtf: I just started a new user account for The Sims 2 and EP's only. (Runs a lot smoother and I can use higher settings) I still have files in my other account and very leary about moving things. I have had to reinstall one too many times.

Squinge sorry for being stupid but put it down to my age!

When you say copy the file for OFB and give the instructions do you mean put the cd in and get it from that or do you mean go into where you said and copy it from the original file. Also where do I copy it to. Will be grateful for your help.

Below are the instructions on how to replace the file(s) mentioned above.
EP3:
The file needs to be extracted from your cd from the file "compressed.zip" to the directory "C:\Program Files\Ea games\The Sims 2 Open For Business\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins" on your computer.
open the file compressed.zip(located on your cd i.e. D:\) double click on TSData, double click on Res, double click Catalog, last double click Bins, there you will see the file "globalcatbin.bundle.package" extract that file to the folder I listed above.

FFS:
The file needs to be extracted from your cd from the file "compressed.zip" to the directory "C:\Program Files\Ea games\The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff\TSData\Res\Objects" on your computer.
open the file compressed.zip(located on your cd i.e. D:\) double click on TSData, double click on Res, double click Objects, there you will see the file "objects.package" extract that file to the folder I listed above.

I downloaded this patch a long time ago. My biggest problem with it, though:
It said Servo's "Do chores" function will no longer override "free will OFF". This was a big annoyance to me and even though I downloaded the patch, all my Servos are still doing chores when they don't have free will. Anyone know what's up?

That's what I thought too. However, MaxoidMel says you need both patches to get the full affect. (http://bbs.thesims2.ea.com/community/bbs/messages.php?threadID=cac89624d55a21a892f60585456a062b&directoryID=21&startRow=1&openItemID=item.21,root.1,item.61,item.104,item.41,item.23#cad7a5e6415554134637573aa8e81280) I don't know what isn't in the FFS patch that is in the OFB patch, but some have speculated it is just the stencil neighborhood. If that is the case, it wouldn't make a difference unless you created a new Bluewater Business District from scratch for a neighborhood that didn't already have one.

I feel like I'm missing this. Are you meant to install lemme see...all the patches up to the EP you have? Like if you have TS2 up to NL, then u install all 3 patches? Coz I read in the NL section, it contains bug fixes from UV. Sorry, I'm totally clueless about this kinda thing.

is anybody having a problem when you load a lot with a sim on it, and before it finishes loading the game crashes??

Yes, I am having a problem getting the whole neighborhood to load. I can load my custom neighborhood, Strangetown, and Veronaville. Pleasantview, however, will not load. The game just sits there "thinking." Of course, Pleasantview is the 'hood I play in most so that would have to be the one that doesn't load. I've eliminated the usual suspects - hacks, mods, etc. as the problem. I've tried installing back ups from several times back, still no load. Anybody got any ideas?

Update: Deletion of the groupscache, Thumbnails in Thumbnail folder, citigen file, and content of the Saved Sims folder allowed the neighborhood to load with no problem from the latest backup.

So the next day I went and downloaded the OFB patch and installed. As far as I can tell again... it is working as intended and no problems seem to have arise as of thus far. ;D

The patch installed fine and did correct some problems, BUT now I can't delete re-colors of objects in game. There's no trash bin to delete to! Umm, don't suppose there's any way to Uninstall the patch? Probably not...

Now the real question is... When are they going to make a patch to fix all the patches they make?

dami
19th Jun 2006, 05:35 PM
it is not a bug that you can not delete recolors from build menu anymore. it is intended from EA to make the game compatible for future expansions.

but there is still a simple way to choose and delete recolors. buy the item in build mode, place it and then choose the design tool from build menu like you want to give the item an other color. there you can delete recolors as usual.

After reading about problems with downloading the new OFB patch I was worried about downloading it. But just a note for others, I had absolutely no problem downloading it. It fixes a lot of bugs so I wanted to get it. :duck:

I don't know if this has anything to do with the new EP3 patch I installed, but I'm desperate.

I just reinstalled the whole game, and also the new patch. I also downloaded the Insimenator. Now my game keeps crashing after I've played a while. Could it be the patch, or Insimenator, or what the ****? What should I do? Never had this kind of problem before.

Please help!

I was wondering, I have alot of hacks and many many downloads. Do I have to go through them all and remove the hacks before I install the patches or can I just take out my downloads folder and place it somewhere else until the patches are done installing?

A month ago I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything. After seeing this topic I remembered that I didn't do any updates. (Thanks for reminding me.) I just installed all of the updates in the order that the software was released. (TS2, Uni, Nightlife, and OFB. I don't have Family Fun Pack.) I wanted to be sure not to miss anything. I, of course, removed my Downloads folder first.

Actually I don't think I've had any of the problems listed as fixed by the patches but I figure that not patching the game for that reason would be like not backing up my computer because it's never crashed. lol. If it says it fixes something I download it. And I keep all of my download sims 2 hacks and objects backed up and update the backup about every 20 new items or every time I REALLY REALLY like a hack or item. I can't expect to remember where I get all my items and hacks from and there's NO WAY I want to search all the way through The Sims resource again for stuff I already had. lol.

Yeah, with my sims its every chance they get, even if they've just got up and don't actually need it.....It is sometimes funny to watch them fight (not literally) over who gets to use it though :D

If you're interested, I just downloaded an espresso machine from here, it turns off free will use:

Okay, so I removed all the hacks but now I have another question. Can we put seperate folders in our downloads folder? Just to keep everything sorted better. This would make removing things so much simpler. I thought I remembered someone saying awhile back ago that we could, but I just want to be sure before I try just in case it messes up my game. Thanks :)

My downloads folder has a few folders in there that work. All of them were automatically put there when I decompressed some mods (content shows up just fine if I leave them in their folders). I should probably do that with mine after I get around to the patch.

Inside my dowloads folder I have folders called: beta hacks, universal hacks (all the universal beta hacks that I've tested and work), and object downloads. Inside the object download folder I have folders called: hacked objects, normal objects, and recolors. These folders have folders and those folders have folders. lol. Anything can be in a folder but skins, clothing, inteenimator, hair, and genetics. In fact, I hate sims packs because they are self installing and mess up my sorting system.

All of my hacks work with the updates EXCEPT one. The Simslice "Anytime Servo" objects cause the OFB crafting stations to be unusable. I don't know why that object conflicts, but after hours of frustration and testing I found the problem download and am totally shocked. A Simslice object has never caused a problem before.

Edit:
By the way, having subfolders will not mess up the game. If you subfolder a skin or other package that shouldn't be in a subfolder, that skin or object simply won't show up in the game.

Im really hoping someone can help me here im sorry im not sure if i am supposed to start a new thread or not.

I downloaded the patch no problem and went in to play the game, i went into the family i normally play and it crashed whilst i was entering the lot. i came out, restarted the game and went back in. This time the lot loaded, but only one of my sims was there (Nervous Subject) his wife and child had dissapeared and he was stuck in an infinite error loop saying something about unable to trace neighbour.

I deleted him (could not reset or cancel) and went back to neighbourhood and then again into the lot. The same thing happened again, he got stuck in a loop and the family had dissapeared (even though they showed on the loading screen). I then deleted the house and did the drastic action of resetting my neighbourhood. I created my sims and moved them back into another house and everything appeared to be fine. So when i had finished i saved and exited as normal.

When i went to load and play my family the next night the exact same thing happened and Nervous was left in an inifinate loop with no family.

I really hope someone can help me, i have a horrible feeling that i will have to uninstall and reinstall my games. To be honest i am dreading this as it was such a nightmare the first time.

I hope someone can help and im actually quite upset about loosing my sims family :(

i don't have ffs installed. i got red flashing walls from lots and create a family due to a crappy video card >.>

i did exactly that, i even moved downloads folder to desktop. the error still pops up! >.>

what do i do now?

I f-img hate their patching system. :-( I'm glad they care enough to attempt to provide us with the least buggy product they can, but I hate that I have to re-install my game :-P Ah, but thems the breaks kid. I'll be happy to see that out of bounds crap gone, though. Poor simmies with lamp posts looking all freakin' weird on the wrong side of ths walkway. Pissin' me off more than them, honestly.

Just as I finished typing that last bit, I re-installed and added the damn patch. There was one problem though, one file I forgot to back up. DAMMIT! I backed up all of my neighborhoods, but got sidetracked and didn't back up my downloads file. *Sniffs* And I had just gone through CI and disabled my hacks.

Man, am I ever glad I back up my custom content monthly, but I lost almost a month's woth of goods! Grrr! *Kicking self*

On a further insult to injury note, now my custom stuff isn't showing up. *bangs head against wall*, *takes deep breath* Okay... step one... :turtle:

Urumi,
I also have this problem for my most favorite counter (of course....) and tried to make the changes noted above. Please clarify how I am to take this info from the compressed.zip (I did find it on the CD) and once this is done, should I just place it in the FFS object.package? I do not see how I could do it the other way around (from FFS harddrive folder to the CD).
Anxiously awaiting your response.

I see only a few of the 50ish fixes apply to my computer. I do not know if this patch will cause more problems than it fixes.
Thank you Squinge for advising us to remove hacks before installing. I see a few listed issues where your hacks had already fixed it.

The great Squinge sees all, knows all!

No, I'm not being sarcastic; I mean it. :-)

I tried four times to install the patch, downloading it afresh each time, just in case it had gotten corrupted in transit or something, and it crashed every time.

I did what Squinge said, and it worked beautifully.

Lol you know what after i dowloaded all this stuff i noticed that may game wasn't runnin right. So i decide to see if i can find a patch that can handle all the hacks and custom content that i downloaded ( cause honestly i'm just now findin out about modding the game, i know i'm soooooo late), and from what i'm readin i'm so afraid to download any kind of patch although all my stuff is backed up cause i send it to a back up folder then extract the files into the game, so all my files are backed up but i don't feel like goin through all the installing and uninstalling. That's just to much work, but i really want my game to run smoothly. So if you guys find a patch that truly works post it cause i'm always on the boards.
