I had sims 2 installed for a long time, finally ended up getting univeristy and nightlife. Installtion was all good and proper, everything all works fine and dandy, except for one problem.

In the options>sound settings menu, where you can choose to play the various music tracks and change volume settings, you can set the speaker arrangement you have, to either stereo, 4.1 or 5.1. Now I actually have a 5.1 surround sound system connected and it is all fully configured. But whenever I start nightlife, the setting has always returned back to stereo. I tried selecting 5.1, entering a lot, saving, exiting the game then looking but it always resest back to stereo for some reason.

I thought maybe I could adjust the setting in the My Documents>EA Games>The Sims 2>Config>UserProps.xml file, but there is no option in there for the surround sound setting (which I assume is the problem; there's no line for it so whatever I choose in the sound options it won't get saved).

Any idea how I can fix this?

I had already patched the game with the nightlife patch after I installed the ep's but. I'll try and repatch it and see if that works.

It won't let me patch it again.
