I installed Sims 2 in daughter's computer a year ago, and E-Mac. It has worked perfectly. Purchased 2 expansion packs today and neither one of them can find Sims 2. I reinstalled Sims 2 - and they still cannot find it. We do not have a game folder, should I make one? Please send help.

Thank you

Are you installing to the applications folder?

I corrected the Sims 2 mistake, uninstalled it according to directions, and then reinstalled it in the main Hard Drive folder. It appears as a folder : Sims 2

I put back her people and houses, and it works as before. We made a few changes to her people and then saved it. Then tried to install Nightlife and it said "you have to have Sims 2 first".

Same as before.

We restarted the computer.

Nightlife install: "You have to have Sims 2 first"

Frustrated

Oh, I forgot one thing.

We installed Open for Business first thing when we got home. It seemed to install normally. The instructions seemed to say(not as specific as I need)that you leave the Open for Business CD in the tray, and yet you click on the Sims 2 icon to start the game.

When we did that, it said we needed to put the original Sims 2 disk in the tray. That did not start Open for Business either.

Since that time, I have not been able to install Nightlife, or reinstall Open for Business. They both cannot find Sims 2.

Thank you for any help.

I would suggest rebuilding permissions and see if that helps. Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and launch it, select "repair permissions" from the menu.

Also, after you did the uninstall/reinstall (removing every file the directions said to remove ;-)), did you run the game & play for a few minutes? I think you need to do that. Then quit and try installing an EP.

Rebuilding permissions as a fix won't help in this instance because the files we're talking about aren't Apple-created. Disk Permissions does not fix anything but Apple softwares. What is quite frustrating is when Aspyr support starts telling people to repair permissions, only furthering the illusion that it will fix a problem.

Granted, if the computer does have a lot of permissions in need of repair other bad things happen, but they're not related to The Sims 2.
