Hi, im trying to create a fabulous drum set and i've been working on getting it perfect for atleast 2-days now. Once I got it right i realised the front logo on the Bass drum was mirroring (right word?) to the back like the picture underneath!

Please help me im tearing my hair out over this!

You have the front and back of the drum uv mapped to the same spot. If you want the logo to be on the back, but the words properly, you'll need to flip the uv coords for just the back side of the drum. Unfortunately this isn't easy in milkshape. Last time I had to do it I manually entered in the uv coords with the extended editor. If you don't want the log on the backside at all, you'll need to move those faces to a different spot on your texture.

Ok thanks, i dont want the logo on the back at all, just the front. How would i go about doing this?

Difficult to explain (in English), take a look at Numenor's tuorial - you have to do it in UVMapper... just select the vertex of the back and place them on another place of your texture, an area showing the texture you want. Clear?
SnowStorm, wouldn't it be easier to mirror the texture extra for this area instead? ;) *lazy*

My $0.02:
You would probably want to UV map the back drum skin to a whole new texture location, since all the bass drums I remember seeing have a discolored spot where the head hits the drumskin.

My €0.02 to Wes' $0.02:
Yes, this was quite exactly what I wanted to say, thank you!
(except the spot) - and to the spot: maybe it's a new drum set, not played often yet... ;)

not sure if you can do this but in max 8 you tell the map to generate both a front and back map so you can uv map both the front and back seperately. try looking fo something like that in your uv map program

You should already know how it works but maybe a refresh can't be wrong, look here (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=79954) :)

I had a look at Uv Mapper Classic and it only accepts .obj files. So how do make the drun kit a obj file to edit the uv map!?

Oh, seems like you should even follow JWood's object creation tuorial, too? :D
You have to extract the mesh in the Geometric Data Container, it will be saved as an OBJ file - take a look at the tut if you're unsure :D
If you still struggle with the understanding of UVmapping maybe in this thread (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=199618) in the repair center you can find some more hints. I uploaded a package, explained a bit (post # 8). I don't know yet if it's too difficult to understand (no feedback yet) also because I included mistakes to find/ understand. Maybe, if it's not already clear, it could be interesting for you, too??
How did you try texturing it so far?

How did you try texturing it so far?
Well if you mean like recolouring it to the red etc then i did it through SimPE object workshop.
I have limited knowledge of meshing, UV mapper and when i went extarct the Geometric Data Container the drum set doesnt have one!?
I looked around but i couldnt find it.
I dont know what to do but i'll look through those links oyu gave me and see.
Thanks a bunch for your help so far!

 Seems like the Maxoids UV mapped the front and back at the same place...
I didn't try recoloring it yet but now I'll do a test recolor *curious*
And the steps SnowStorm (Wes_h) and me were talking about will help you to create a new mesh, a "standalone" drumset in the catalog. I myself thought that's what you wanted to do :D Misunderstanding??
As I said, I'll do a test, maybe there's a better fitting sollution for you???

I looked in SimPe and there is no GMDC.
If you did a test it would be wonderful because im stumped right now.

Ok, among others I took the chance to finally finish my desktop background JPG - the sun :D so it took a while and (see screenshot) the mistake is reproducible :faceslap: I guess the Maxoids were lazy :P
Ehm, yes, because you only created a recolor (thought you cloned already - stupid me  ) but when you clone the drum set it will be there and you'll be able to fix the mapping problem (if you want you can even change the mesh and let it look even cooler  :D).

Did u clone the drum set to see if the gmdc was there?
Because i did clone it when i was trying to fix the problem nd it wasnt there.
I'll take a screenshot.
Ok screenshot done.

Now I cloned the drumset :D And I might even start creating a cool one now... :P
No Idea what happened to yours, compare with my settings in OW. Added a screenshot which shows you how (options) I cloned it - sorry German Display, the QA doesn't want me to switch between languages, but you can compare with yours anyway. I created a new mesh which still referrs to the Maxis drumset, means it should work like this: all the Maxis recolors on the HDD are also available for this drumset. Try it out but it should be working like this. So you can create recolors for the Maxis set (the shell and crome part) and with corrected maps - create recolors for your drumset (front and back displayed different, the "head" subset).
Edit: noiticed it wasn't clear enough :D In this case (referring to origiinal mesh) you can only put your back, eh the back of the bassdrum into the area fitting the maxis texture but do not add more drums or percussion stuff (=fixes the Maxis problem). If you want to do this you just have to unckeck 'refer to original mesh' (somehow like this in English)
Hopefully you can follow my English :D
BTW, your location on Earth is somewhere in Australia, right? ;)
