View Full Version : One-Way Sim Interaction Mode (It's Like Talking To A Brick Wall)

My Pleasantview neighborhood has recently undergone some serious sim interaction problems. Essentially, the father sim on a few lots (only a few out of many) are able to interact with every member of the household; however, they cannot interact with him. I am so confused. Of course, he is controllable, yet, I can't even get him to do certain things - like move out! This is also a problem when he is visiting another family that is currently being played (when he is a visitor). He also doesn't do stuff on community lots when I have him selected (when I am another sim - due to the selectable feature on Insimenator).
Before I go on with this painful tirade of this bothersome situation, I’d like to point out that I read all the help-tips and technical problems – I have done every one and all of my drivers are up-to-date, as well as my graphics card and all of that. I have searched through the FAQ's til nearly blind and have asked other players on other sites. All of my downloads are organized. In fact, I could start a new profession by doing the same for others. So, I did do my homework.
I tried some other options that someone had done and succeeded (she had the same prob with NO hacks or mods installed); (out of game) downloading a
new OFB patch, re-downloading the CEP, reorganizing/better organization of my downloads folder, removing my hacks/mods folder onto my desktop and returning them one @ a time, updating as many mods/hacks as I could find, (in game) moving the sim out with another sim and on his own, moving the entire family to another lot, killing him off and trying resurrection, trying the testingcheatsenabled true cheat and forcing error and then resetting - I've tried it all plus some. I am also told to delete them, they'll be by the mailbox, but I've tried resetting and it didn't work - plus, I'm kind of a chicken to do it.
The only other option I could think of was possibly fixing these infected sims with Sim PE. Do you think this would work? I checked the reset on the force error and it is a continuous list of "missing neighbor (something) access" or something like that, so I checked PE but I first need to know what I'm doing. lol. (I know where the PE tutorial is). If thats the case, do I need it?
I'm trying to find a way to fix this problem without going insane, make backup copies of two years of lengthy, hard work and reinstalling the game and risking the problem not to be fixed after all the hassle!
I'm so frustrated. Please, someone, help me.
I hope I gave you enough information to help.

We need to figure out what's wrong with your sims. First, backup your entire My Docs/EA Games/Sims2 folder then go through all the steps in this faq: http://www.modthesims2.com/article.php?t=139718 Let us know how it goes.

Is this a CAS Sim, a Sim born in the game, or a former NPC/townie? If NPC or townie, what was he originally?

juliana: I feel like I just did this with my mods and hacks and half of my downloads, already. lol - I can try it again.
Jordi: jordi - both a CAS sim and one born in from that sim.. hm... same family (father and son) - weird. Anyway - remember - it is only a couple of families this way that are infected with something, not the whole neighborhood - and I have tons of families in that same neighborhood. Anyway - these two families I've had for very long time - used to play them all the time until other neighborhoods came into focus. So, they aren't new at all, and this problem started just recently - never had this problem all this time.
Furthermore, I just cleaned out my CAS and my organized my downloads according to all the tutorials found in MTS2 about a month ago - had an object problem child a couple of days ago that disabled my game and so I went through all my downloads handful at a time from February 2nd. Finally, I could get in my game. My problem isn't my computer crashing (and bad object recoulors or objects do that). Mods and hacks usually don't crash my game, they tend to make game play screw up, but its none of those. Really not looking forward to doing the whole clean up again. lol.

By the way the patch I downloaded was Pets EP version not OFB. ;)
Can you list down the order of how you installed your games?
e.g Base game, Holiday fun packs(old version), OFB, UNi, NL, Pets, FFS, GLS (at this point I don't have custom contents download & the interactions error occurred. Download Pets patch & solved it. This may be due to Maxis's error.), latest now Seasons.
I was told by jase439 of Inteenimater that for certain inteen files, once you have the latest update patch installed from maxis, they will conflict & have to remove the inteen.
Do you have inteen installed?
I don't have inteen installed because was told that will conflict with pets patches.
Hope this will help. :)

Well, Inteen has worked fine so far (installed after my latest EP). Had it in for about a month and a half before my sim went freaky on me. To answer your question, I installed Sims 2, Uni, NL, and then OFB, in that order.
Beosboxboy is trying to help me on the PE editing part, like removing memories. Thus far, still haven't been lucky.
Oh, and Ding, I DID actually move him out, the round about way (I moved his wife and the kids out, left him there, then went to neighborhood and moved her and the kids back home and him into his own place. Interactions still screwy). I tried the force error and it is comin up one after another - like the list of resets is endless. I feel they will never end, so I give up.
I'm going to try a couple more things (maybe with PE - if it's a possible option - before I do the entire cleanup (cuz it takes a couple days and I'm going through game play withdrawal, lol). If this doesn't work - I don't know - kill him?

julianna: I have gone through all of this. All of my downloads are fine. And I've tried to remove certain folders and put them back (like removing ALL of my Mods and Hacks and returning them one at a time, for example) and removing the neighborhood file would defeat the purpose of seeing if thats the problem (because, the only problem is the interaction of that one sim). A new patch doesn't work (its all up to date). I tried deleting all of my game generated files, and none of the the problems on the "If your problem isn't solved" page are my problem. I really do think that it is a character bug, because again, it is only happening to two sims. I really don't think it's neccessary to do away with the entire neighborhood (when the rest is running okay) simply because of these two messed up sims.
Ding: The force error states: An error occurred in object N001user blah blah.... Error: missing neighbor for data access. The stack trace is saved in folder.....
This is what keeps popping up endlessly.

We have people go through all those steps so that the problem can be narrowed down to a custom content, neighborhood or specific lot/family error. Since you've done that and identified the problem only being with specific sims, we need to figure out how to fix them. :) Just to be sure, did you try deleting them, saving the lot exiting to the neighborhood and reentering the lot?

I see that you don't have stuffs packs installed.
Did you installed any hacks, Mods, or downloads that are actually made from the stuffs packs? (sometime some creator did not indicate either forget or don't know that the items belongs to stuffs packs.)
My problem occur after the stuffs packs were installed.
My friends told me that they also have same error after installing somethings that overwrite the previous files installed.
They were told that the reasons was due to installing games that are not the latest version or latest release.
They have try to uninstall everythings & re-installed according to the date that the games were released. (They have to forsake most of the lots installed :( .)
Before uninstalling, all of the Sims they have were move out of the original lot & placed into empty lots in order of 5 Sims to 3 pets each per lot. They have make notes on the relationships, memories & other stuffs which they have thought to be necessary before packaging the lots. Move the Packaged files or Package Folder to other location (not EA game folders or My document at EA). Uninstalled & reinstalled the game again.
After that they placed back the packaged files or package folder back to The Sims 2 folder at My document, create a new neighbourhood & placed the occupied lots. Have all the lots saved & quit the game.
Then using copies of the notes they have taken down (relationships, memories & other stuffs), they used tutorials from SimPe to alters the relationships, memories, skills, personality, talents & etc..of the Sims using SimPe at the neighbourhood browser.
I was thinking that If all of the problems can't be resolved. May be you can try to move that one Sim out to an empty lot & have him/her packaged with the empty lot.
Make notes of the relationships, memories, etc.....
Quit the game, restart your game again & look under the occupied lot bin.
Placed the lot, enter it , Saved & quit game again, then use SimPe to alters the Sim.
This will not be easy but hope can help out a bit. :( to see have to restart everythings but hope this can be useful so that you don't end up what my friends have done.
By the way when Sim was killed & resurrected (make sure pay at least $10,000), their memories seem to be distorted & have no married or enaged status. You will be surprise to see, they can have enaged or married or fall in love memories of the same Sim twices or even more depending on how many times they have been resurrected.

Juliana: Yes, I have. This is one of the first things Ive tried. It doesn't work. It DOES work, however, with sims who have no faces! Good note to know for the future...
Ding: No, I am very careful with which hacks, and mods I download. I don't download any that are not compatible specifically with what I have installed already. I don't even download stuff that was made with Pets. As far as I know - I don't think I have, and I try not to have, downloaded any mods or hacks unless they tell me what game they are compatible with. Sometimes, they slip in there, but to my knowledge I am okay in that area. Again, I tried testing my game without any mods and hacks and the game was fine.
As far as the game being installed in order, Ding, I really appreciate your help, but I have installed in order, so that wouldn't be the problem.
I think though, that what I may try before trying out Sim PE, even, is your suggestion from awhile back put together with one you just made. Resetting everything by moving the entire lot and family to the neighboorhood bin. Then, maybe, I can see if I need to dig into character files in PE or not (cross your fingers for me).

Good luck for the last option.
But everything will be resetted.
You need all the luck you can get ;)
Best regards & cross fingered :P
