Hello, me again, the Problem Haver.
I have the newest version of Milkshape and was following the tutorial by JWoods on Start to Finish Object Creation. I follow everything the way it says in the tutorial. I have been meshing with Blender and thought I would familiarize myself with Milkshape. The only issue that I have at this moment is the near the end. I export the re-grouped mesh back out of Milkshape and save it over the original GMDC I exported. The problem is, when I go to import into SimPE, the GMDC reverts back to the original one that I exported. I tried the tutorial about 5 times, and have not been able to figure it out. I also have the Unimesh Plugins and the GL Drivers as well. Anyone have an idea? Thanks

How many polygons and vertices does your new mesh have? I've heard of cases before where SimPE refused to import the correct mesh if it was very high in polygons and vertices.

It was the very very simple table with 4 square legs and a square table top. I have made more complex objects in Blender before. It's just I think something was happening when I exported from Milkshape. I am totally stumped on this one.

Then the only thing I can suggest is posting your package and the OBJ file you're trying to import here and someone will take a look.

I think I understand what you are asking - this may be a naming issue. I ran into this when I was first starting out with MilkShape. Don't use the "...root_trans_gmdc" name as your .obj file name - call it something different, such as mysimpletable.obj, when you export it out and then save it to the same name when importing it back into SimPE. What you call it is not important, but name it something you will recognize and that will be unique to each of your meshes.
Hope this helps,
Debra

HertDeco--I will give that a try. If that does not work, I will put the package on here and see if someone can help. Thanks everyone. I will post later if I can get it to work or not.

One test tool I have learned usefulk for this is the tweak.
After, of course, carefully saving your work, select a single vertice of it and use the move function to drag it way out of place... make it look like an icecream-cone stuck on a shirt, or box or whatever.
With the problem you are having, save this and import it into SimPE, and then click on Preview in the GMDC plugin.
If you see your icecream cone appendage in the preview, you loaded the right file. If it isn;t there, you managed to get the wrong file loaded.
If it is right in SimPE, but isn't visible in the game, the problem is related to the group/instance(hi)/instance linkage within the package.
So test that preview and you'll know where to look next.

I actually remember having the same problem when I first started using Milkshape. In fact, I was doing the same table tutorial LOL. I ended up exporting everything out of Milkshape as the same file name except with a "1" after it. That actually turned out to be a good thing because I didn't always preview the mesh in SimPE before hitting the commit button and could get the original one back.
And it only seemed to be OBJ files. I could work with LWO and 3DS files without a problem.
After registering and paying the $25 I noticed I started getting prompts to overwrite OBJ files. I hadn't before.
So check to make sure you are getting the prompt to overwrite. If not then I can only suggest saving as a different file, registering, or checking out the help forums at the Milkshape website.

Thanks all. I am sure I will be able to figure it out. I am going to just save them as a different file, that way I know which one is my new mesh. If I run into anymore problems, I will seek out some help.
