Does the drive work with other CDs ?

This seems to be a common problem since Seasons, most likely due to the copy-protection built into the disk. My suggestion is to keep trying to start the game using the shortcut and/or eject the disk and let the autoplay start the game.

Deleting the groups.cache file sometimes works for me if my game won't start. You'll find it in your My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 folder.

it actually lost mine completely and every time I tried to autoplay it would try to reinstall >_< eventually I tried to reinstall but it wouldn't let me wouldn't let me go into the EA uninstaller (said it wasn't there), so I had to go into windows uninstall it and reinstall it LOL it was crazy
