View Full Version : Is it my game or my monitor?
21st Jul 2007, 4:51 PM
Well starting today my monitor keeps switcing itself of whilst im playing. I get about half an hour or so in when it switches of and my monitor says 'No signal input. Going sleep'. I can still hear my sim game playing..only i carnt see it any more.
If i restart, my monitor comes back on, but if i play the sims, the same thing will happen again at some point. And its no good restarting anyway, because all of what i was doing in the game will be lost.
Ive not been playing for about an hour now and my monitor hasnt gone off. Why's it doing it just in my game? Is it my game or monitor? It's never done this before.

Have you double-checked the connection between your monitor and computer to make sure that it's secure?

It's not that much of a help, I know, but I, too, have this problem after I suffer the infinite blue screen loop for a bit -- the monitor signal goes out, and the only way to get it back is to reboot. Don't think it's the monitor really. Could be your graphics card.

Well I just had a new graphics card put in and its the ultimate power my computer can take. Maybe it's too much for my comp to handle :S
And yeh, everythings connected up properly.

What kind of card do you have? And what kind of power supply (wattage and all that)? Because certain cards need a stronger power supply, especially if you have a lot of hardware hooked up (hard drives, rom drives, etc.).

I just went through this same thing after I upgraded from W2K to XP. I have a Radeon 9200 video card (and the game played flawlessly in W2K). I had installed my drivers right after installing XP and thought everything was fine. After much frustration of only getting 5-10 minutes of game play before the monitor went to sleep (alt-tab would wake it up), I decided to reinstall the video card drivers. Sure enough, I was able to play to my heart's content last night.
