View Full Version : My Sims are Smearing - the best way I can describe

I have all the Sims expansions - which worked completely fine btw! Then I bought H&M, Celebration, and Glamour Life stuff packs. I installed them all at once. When next I played, weird things started happening to my graphics. It was like my Sims were being smeared on the screen. Some moments their entire bodies were missing, sometimes just lower bodies, at other times just their hair. But other times Their arms or bodies stretched out -I mean as far as the eye could see!

So, I thought it might be custom skins I had (Everyone I create uses Warlokk's skins) so I created people with no custom content at all - it started happening in CAS too! So I tried playing with a premade family and everything was fine for awhile - but then they stretched everywhere too!

So, I backed up all my data - deleted all my custom content, neighborhoods, saved sims - and its still doing it, I updated all my drivers, then rolled back all my drivers, made sure all games were patched did EVERYTHING on the FAQ, plus read through about 40 pages here on the technical forums. I've tried changing resolution, graphics options. Everything I can think of, and everything I saw recommended. I don't know if my card is going bad - just won't support the stuff packs or if there is a simple solution I'm just too dumb to see. I tried to take picures to show but it doesn't show up there - and I can't figure out how to add the screen shots to my post.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop with:
Windows Vista OS
2GHz AMD Turion 64x2 processor
894 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 1150 Xpress with the 0517 updates (updated yesterday) w/ total memory 318

I tried talking to EA about the problem but they said my computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements and weren't very helpful. One last thing: I didn't uninstall then reinstall my game- I only want to do that if there are no other options. I've had to do that already like 3 times this year!

Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

It doesn't look like your graphics card is supported by Seasons. So I'm thinking that because you're running the game on a laptop that the addition of the Stuff Packs has overtaxed your machine. You can try other drivers to see if that helps at all plus you should check to see if your computer is overheating. http://www.modthesims2.com/article.php?t=146389

I looked at that - I honestly didn't follow all the steps though, because I had another thought. I called Dell, I now that should have been obvious. Just an FYI the computer is not overheating - it has 4 air intakes and two exhausts. I guess I had installed the wrong drivers - Dell walked me through completely uninstalling my graphics card and reinstalling. With NO new drivers it works great - just like before. Its not as good of a picture but, I don't want to ris that smearing thing - so I'll stick with it being a little blurry. Thank you.

Glad to hear that it's fixed. Happy simming :)
