I have previously had The Sims 2 and expansions running on my computer very well. However, a few months ago I uninstalled all the games. I recently tried to reinstall, but after installing just The Sims 2, I get the error message:
The Sims 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I had The Sims 2 Seasons in my startup menu, though it was a "missing shortcut". I've gone through and done a manual uninstallation, gotten rid of all that, and reinstalled the game. Still getting the same error message.

Any help with trying to get the game to work again would be greatly appreciated.

Did you also clear out the registry keys? http://www.modthesims2.com/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Uninstall

Yes, I used that guide to delete all of the registry keys. I got rid of the folder in Program Files, and the folder in Control Panel, and did a search on my computer for anything with "The Sims", "EA Games", and "Electronic Arts", and came up with nothing.

Are there any other possibilities for the error message besides an incomplete uninstallation?
