The package installer that came with the sims 2 keeps crashing

I just installed the sims 2...no expansions, just the orignal, and i tried to download some maxis made objects and the package installer keeps crashing, i read the FAQ and i have no custon content. Im working on microsoft windows XP home edition with 512MB and i have a ATI radeon X1050, is there any way to fix this?

What does the package installer say when it crashes? When does it crash? What are you trying to do with it?

It says "The sims 2 body shop package installer has encountered a problem and will terminate" and it crashed when i click the icon to install the object packages.

Well first off if they're actual packages - not Sims2Packs - then you don't need to install them, just put them in your Downloads folder. Secondly, if the Maxis installer isn't working it's easiest to just use the Clean Installer instead.
