View Full Version : Have SimPE, can't install HomeCrafter: wall texture creation

I'm a Mac weasel, and HomeCrafter does not run on Macs and will not install on a PC that doesn't have a full Sims2 installation-- so I'm in the odd position of having SimPE and being quite comfortable with it, but not having HomeCrafter and having no easy way to get it.
In order to create a new wall texture, can I get away with copying an existing custom wall texture .package file, renaming the copy to whatever need be, and running "Fix Integrity" on it? I've tried it, and it seems to work-- but I want to be dang sure there isn't something else that needs doing...

You can clone walls and floors with SimPE, they're under Other - though maybe you'll need to turn on Advanced mode to see them. You can even make them with bumpmaps, if you want - with HomeCrafter only, it's impossible.
AFAIK the only thing you need to change is to go to XOBJ resource and change 'filename' value to 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa'.

I didn't even know SimPE had an "Advanced" mode... Yep; that did it; there they are. Thanks!
Request for clarification, though: when you say
AFAIK the only thing you need to change is to go to XOBJ resource and change 'filename' value to 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa'.
Do you mean that's something I should be doing for every clone, or for every one that I want to bumpmap-enable, or...?

Honestly, I'm not certain. But I know that HomeCrafter sets 'filename' to this value, for all walls/floors created by it; and, as far as I remember from an old thread related to this, changing 'filename' to this value made bumpmaps work properly.
I made wallpapers few times, used this value - doesn't take long to change :) - and they worked fine.
So, since it worked, I never tried to leave it unchanged :(

Good reason. :) Thanks!
