System Specs:

Win XP Home SP2 (fully patched)
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ 2GHz
1GB Ram
ATI Radeon 9200 (8.252.0.0, newest driver available)

Problem:

I installed WinXP Home recently (after removing XP Pro), then installed Sims2 anew (Base-Free time, no fun packs). Moved my CC back, all worked fine, except the visitors coming round at night, waking up my whole family. At night meaning 2.25 am (1st time) and 4.45 am (second time). Both ocurred in the same night, two different visitors, one lot. At first I didn't know what was going on, I was just wondering why the entire family got up in the middle of the night, even though they had no full energy bars. Then I realised what was going on, and had one family member send the unwanted visitor away.

They all went back to sleep, two hours later same thing happens. I have no hacks installed, no cheats active, removed all my CC (entire download folder) and did all in the game help one step at a time. I don't have the free time patch installed, after reading the problems connected to it. The funny thing is, this is the very first time this is actually happening to me, never had this before.

I've searched the help pages here (archive, current threads, etc.), the internet to no avail.

Am I the only one having this problem? And is the only way to stop them coming round by turing of visitors completely (which is a bit too drastic for my liking...)?

Have you been using the Genie lamp? This is a side effect of one of the wishes backfiring.

An additional thought: are your sims dreaming and gaining enthusiasm in a hobby while they sleep? Are you getting a pop-up in the game saying the visitors are there to give the sim(s) membership in a hobby lot?

I have used the Genie lamp in this family yes. So THAT's why. Gee, thanks for letting me know. :) (I kinda feel stupid for asking now...) You were a great help. ~hugz~

@Canoodle: They come round at odd times, but they never ring the doorbell. They waltz right in, wait till its their turn to talk to the sim, or leave if it takes too long. They (thankfully) do not disrupt my family's sleep.

Hehe, I think you'll have to wait a few days until the spell wears off!
