All right, so I've been playing this one game for a while, the sim in question having grown from child to elder. I saved the game, shut down for the night and went back the next day to find that, when clicking on the house in the neighborhood menu, he doesn't appear in the family anymore. When I entered the family lot, his head appears in a thumbnail along with the rest of the family, but when I double click, it takes me to the middle of the house and he's no where in sight. His motives still decrease, but the action bubbles disappear before they even reach the top of the screen. His name as also changed to "*N004_User00534 - Shay," with 'Shay' being the name he had originally. But his last name has disappeared.

I've tried making other people from other lots invite him over or talk to him. He doesn't show up, and if they try and talk to him, they just sit on the phone without saying anything until you make them hang up. I've tried making someone from the same lot move out with him, but after the taxi pulls away, it doesn't allow me to save, even 30 minutes after I tried the action. I've tried letting his hunger run down so that he starves to death, but it doesn't work. He still lives, just with horrible motives, every single one down to red except for environment which never changes. I have no idea what to do, nor have I ever heard of this happening before. I have Nightlife, University, Pets, Seasons and Bon Voyage. No fun packs. If someone has any idea what to do, that would be great. Thank you.

Edit: Also, the bottom supports of my house have disappeared and have been replaced by gates and there's a little red motive diamond all the way out to the side, out of the play grid that, when I click on it in buy mode, says "Plum Bob" and won't be deleted.

Have you done a virus scan?

Yeah, and I don't think that's it. Also, I think that I've figure out that the red plum bob outside of the grid belongs to the lost sim. Only, it's like right above the ground and I can't dig up the sim or anything. So I don't know how to retrieve him.

The only thing I can think of to try now is to move the whole family out and see if he appears in the "family bin"

Well, when I move my families out of the houses, all of the furniture and such disappears from the lot and it took a long time to put it all in. So before I try that, I'm hoping to find something else to fix the problem.

First, you need to ascertain whether something in your custom content folder is the cause of this. For that you need to run through this:
http://www.modthesims2.com/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Game_Problem
If it is still the same without custom content then I'd be thinking of data corruption- that either something in your current neighbourhood files have been borked, or possibly even the game data files. To determine that, you'd need to find out 1) whether any problems occur in other lots and 2) if an older backup of your game has the same issues. If the problem is with your hood, then you need to restore a backup anyway. If it is a game data problem, the best bet is to reinstall- but that's a last resort.

If you go here: http://www.simlogical.com/sl/Sims2Pages/Sims2_MovingHouse.htm you will find a "stay-things" shrub (all items can stay in the house when the sims move out)
I would definitely go with "simsample's" suggestion, she knows what she's talking about!! (can't think where my head was with my first suggestion  )

Nah, that was good, Gareth- it's possible for a virus scanner to detect a .package as a virus and, ahem, disinfect it. I often wonder if this is some of the cause of neighbourhood corruption/ loss, so it could well be a factor here. :)

Thanks a lot. I'm definitely going to go through that all when I have a little more time on my hands. I appreciate the help. (And the stay-things shrub.)
