I'm new to recolouring, and I've studied all the tuts but can't seem to find an answer to my dilema, so please, someone out there. I want to recolour an end table, but I want the top to be a different colour from the rest. How do I figure out where the top is? I've tried several different spots where it looked like it would be and some of the results have been quite hilarious. :P Help :help:

The only solution is to split the mesh in two parts, with a 3D editor, and then following the tutorial: "Adding a subset to an object (and making it recolorable) (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=103379)".

you can download milkshape on a 30 day free trial - thats what I use, and I paid the 25 euro for the full version. Numenor uses Wings 3D I think. For milkshape you make the mesh and then import the mesh to a uv mapping program.
To find milkshape go here (http://chumbalum.swissquake.ch/)

Thank you, just one more question. I take it you export the clone to the 3D editor. I've read the tut on making objects but never actually done it. all I've done so far is recolour maxis objects from SimPE. So I'm a real newbie at this. :sheep:

The fastest way to learn is to follow the tutorial, below. I started with this, I had never used any 3d tools before and now i have 7 uploads.....I sleep with the printout under my pillow!
