I unfortunately have never read many vampire books, but the ones I have are amazing! They are by Christine Feehan. It takes a different approach to vampires, but I find it interesting. Just a warning, they are romance novels, so they have some scenes that are...um....inappropriate for a younger audience. But if you're into that kind of thing, then they are wonderful.
