View Full Version : Meshing a rug

Hi.
I made a new mesh for a rug. But there is an issue : you can't click on it to make a sim come on the rug.
I noticed than Maxis's rugs become flat when you place one. I don't know why, mine not. Maybe it's linked by the fact that I can't click on it...
Can I fix it ?
Jim.

For all the rugs I have meshed, I began by cloning one of Echo's real rugs (http://www.eternal-echo.net/sims/objects/rugs/). If you wanted to clone one of my Fringed rugs (http://thesorceressandcompany.com/Forum/index.php?topic=313.0) you are welcome to. They are basically Echo's 1 tile rug with a second subset which I used for fringe.
You can't really tell a sim to go to the rug -- but you should be able to tell them 'go here', with "here" being the floor/ground where the rug is.

Well I downloaded the Echo's real rug to see it in game. Like my rug, this one doesn't became flat when you place it. And you can't click on it either.
Is this can be fixed ?

What do you mean by 'flat'??? Flatness, or the lack thereof, would be a mesh issue.
As best I know, there are no interactions with rugs -- either Maxis or CC.

Hum flat, you know, something that is not in relief. I know well that is no direct interaction with the rug but with maxi's rugs, you can click on the floor where the rug is in order to make come the sim.

What did you clone to make your rug?
As for the 'not in relief' -- that sounds like it might be more of a texture issue. You can definitely click on the floor where Echo's rug sits.
Maybe posting the package would give those who are really in-the-know a chance to help you make it behave & look like you want.

There's an interaction with childs and adults, when there're one child and one adult, if you click whit the child will appear "static jolt"

You can definitely click on the floor where Echo's rug sits.Erm... no you can't. ;)
I strongly recommend against trying to remesh the actual EA rugs, for two reasons. Firstly, they're crazy hard to get working, and secondly, they're not base game compatible. They also, apparently, do funky stuff if you try and rotate them 45 degrees, but I've never tried.
I can think of one way to "fix" it for the regular rug, but it's kind of messy and involves creating a second scenegraph in the package. How desperately do you want that ability? :)

To make my rug I cloned... a rug ^^'. I cloned the "rugtech".
But you don't really understand what I want to say about this flatness. This is not my rug wich is flat. See this gif : http://thejim07.free.fr/rug.gif .
This is a Maxis's rug. When you place a rug it become flat and you can click on it, as you can see here : http://thejim07.free.fr/rug01.jpg .
If I place my rug (cloned from that one you saw in the screenshot), it does not become flat like other rugs and, as you can see in this other screen ( http://thejim07.free.fr/rug02.jpg ), you can't click on it.
I did the same experience with echo's rug and the result is the same : http://thejim07.free.fr/rug03.jpg .
I hope my problem is not confused anymore ^^'.

Echo explained pretty well. Don't clone the Maxis rugs because they're made of suck and fail and can't be rotated or placed off-grid. Clone Echo's instead. While you won't get the "go here" interaction, they're about a million times more useful.

I've done the test, my rug, cloned from a maxis's rug, can be rotated or placed grid-off like Echo's one.
But actually, you tell me that when we create a new mesh of a rug, we are not able to have the interaction "go here". Well that is not very important but I thought that it was fixable. Sims can walk on my rug without problem so I guess there nothing to fix.
Anyway thank your for your answer.
