Make the game run slower? 'cause more CC does, and I'm guessing having all the EP's on your computer does too. I'm just wondering if stuff packs make the game run slower also?
I've picked a select few of EP's to have, and I'm not using any CC so I'm stuck for nice clothes, and I wanted to use a few stuff packs for bits and bobs added extra. So er. Do they make the game run slower? :)

Adding EPs and stuff packs increase the game's load time, but marginally compared to the amount that custom content adds to load time. Additional EPs can require more resources to run due to additional graphics effects and things (Seasons and Bon Voyage especially) but stuff packs are just stuff, so they don't.
Custom content will not make your game run slower as long as it is properly made - stuff with regular poly counts and texture sizes should have no greater impact on the game itself than Maxis content under most circumstances, except when it comes to load times.

I've got five games, including the base game, the rest EP's, and it's running okay. But I wanted to add some CC. I've saved my old CC and I thought I'd add it back section by section. But I don't know which items will make the game run slower.

It's cumulative bulk, really, more than specific files (though I suspect big files like skintones may add a bit more than other smaller files). Basically, keep it to a minimum: choose a few things in each category you tend to use, only go with the most special, wonderful, unique, perfect items of those, and you'll be fine.

So. Would it still work if I added say, all of the clothing items, then deleted the ones i wouldn't use one by one when I'm in-game?

Well, yes... it'd just be awfully time-consuming to do so, you'd end up with orphaned clothing meshes if you deleted all the recolours you have for a certain mesh, and that first load would take a while because you're loading up everything. I'd use Body Shop instead (deletes a lot faster than in-game) or, even better, don't dump -everything- in... Think of the things you've really used and loved and either go redownload them or find them in your Downloads and put just those items back in. As you decide you need more or there's things you forgot that you still want, add them.

There's actually not that many downloads. I just can't stand even the tiniest bit of lag during the game. I've recently been through all of my downloads, while in game, and gotten rid of most of them, but there's probably more I could get rid of. Thanks. :)

downloads don't really cause the lag in the game, just at startup, i believe. especially if you've kept it to a minimum and the objects aren't high in poly count.

I actually dont plan on buying the Stuff packs. all it is is extra stuff. I noticed on Mod the Sims2 that a lot of stuff you can download all you need is the Base game and any other EP that maybe required, I have seen a few that say you need a Stuff Pack.
Am I right?

Yes, Teresa, not many downloads require stuff packs.

If you have a tons of hair and makeup and clothing. The loading times when you are changing your appearance or buying clothes can be a bit long. But that + startup is the only time you notice it.

A couple of days ago I was running everything but BV, TSS and CS, and when I added those 3 in all at once a couple of days ago, I didn't notice an increase in the load times at all, if anything my load times were slightly faster curiously enough...
