What are your favourite names that you tend to use a lot in your game? What are the names of your favourite families, and your legacy family? Do you have any cute themes that you use?

I try to combine the names of the mother and father in the child's first name. As an example, the son of Adam and Eve might be Ava, and their son might be Ed. I end up with some strange names that way, but it helps me keep track of who's related to whom when I run into great-great-grand uncles on community lots and don't recognize them. When I create a sim from scratch, I generally have their name mean something, like "A. Lazy Slacker" when I create a totally unmotivated slug, etc. When pairing sims off, I make sure the one with the better surname does the proposing/marrying, so their surname is handed down to the next generation.

I can get really random with my names. Sometimes if it's something specific, I'll look up names in a baby book, or online.
For Example, I named my Black Widow Challenge sim Lucrezia Borgia. She has had three daughters so far, Leonara, Isabelle and Giovanna, who are all name after other members of the Borgia family.
For my Legacy family, I did The odyssey/iliad names.
Founder was Helen.
She had two kids, son Paris and daughter Andromache.
Andromache has one son named hector and is pregnant again.
Paris had two daughters, Cassandra and Briseas.
Briseas has three children so far, daughter Thetis, and twin sons Agamemnon and Menelaus.
Other names I just like are:
Girls:
Illona
Elizabeth
Annabelle
Li-Mei
Alexandria
Boys:
Alexander
Cale

Cute Names
The Honey Family - I made a family when I purchased OFB called "Honey" with father Shane and mother Gracie. Shane Honey opened up a Toy Store home business appropriately named "Honey Pot Toys." I think thats the cutest thing Ive ever come up with.
The Samsung Family - Its not THAT cute, but I named a male Sim of mine Sam Samsung who owned a tech store (Samsung is a cell phone brand). I thought it was clever in a non-clever sort of way. Get it? Yeah me either...
The Kilo Family - Khai Kilo (male)was the founder of my first ever Poverty Challenge. I just think its a cute name.
Hawaiian Names - Among others, I use Khai, Kamalei and Lilo for Sims of a Hawaiian culture.

I try to pick names that aren't overly common, because I can only handle so many Mikes and Matts and it sort of unnerves me to have too many Sims that share the names of people I know well. That isn't to say that I don't use common names, but that I try not to overuse them. In other words, I'm just rambling pointlessly right now and telling you in a roundabout way that I pick whatever names I darn well please. :D
I currently have a Diamanda in my game, and I think I have a Tobias somewhere too. I also have a line of sims that I always name Roxanne Goldberry, in honor of a my favorite Sim from my TS1 days. I also like the names Nate and Keith, because they're normal sounding without being generic.
As far as last names go... I try to use variety, but I'm kind of partial to expensive sounding names. I have both a Van Helsing family and a Van Heusen family. I also like to make up last names that describe the Sim that I'm making... I have a permanent bachelor, for example, whose last name is Freebird.
*sigh* I'm so redundant sometimes.

Most of my Sims (my favorite Sims) are based on role-play characters of mine or of my friends, so yes, the names are slightly...odd?
Some last names
Stoneheart
Valcross
Lieb
DeLuc
Sonata
Female Names
Takryn
Tyria
Katlah
Sophia
Caranfin
Amara
Sheris
Celasia
Solari
Kato
Ursula
Ara
...and so on.
Male Names
Tatic
Dante
Xarius
Drake
Lucian
Kristof
Hadyn
Hadrian
Lyall
Tyrant
...and so on again.
With some families I go with themes, for example, my couple Dante and Sheris, name their children after angels (Gabriel, Michael, etc). My alien children are named after planets, stars or constellations (Orion, Saturn, etc) and the children who are the by-product of Grimmy are named after gods of death, figures and even places in the Underworld(s) (Charon, Hades, Styx, etc).

I have two ways of naming sims. The serious way is to look at the telephone book on my desk and find a nice name that suits their looks and personality. My favorite serious names are Peter, David, Tom, Will...old fashioned names for the boys. I like naming girls more unusual things, like Adele, Claudia, Aasima, Stevie, etc.
The other method is to put together random verbs. For instance, I'm playing a black widow right now named Doormat Hallelujah, and her daughters are named Pepperpot and Cable. My favorite family with stupid names is the X family. The mother and father are Exultation and Rumination, and their son and daughter are Clarification and Tribulation.

My favorite family is the SUNG family.
The dad is Jeremy Sung. The mom is Carii Sung. The kids are Daria and Ivey. Ivey`s a boy. Daria and Ivey are both kids at the moment. They have an older sister named Sharie. She got married to Orlando Centowski [[they met at college. Ha]] and they have one child : Lisette! She`s a toddler.
Fortunately Sharie`s little family live separate. Jeremy hates Orlando.
Umm... my favorite names are usually Continents/Countries, since my name is one! [[India]]. The ones I use the most are Africa, Asia, India, && Aussie. If its a big family I just use the Family Creator from MikeInside.

Well, I don't have a lot of variety right now. Naming just goes on a whim..no real theme. Nyestaville only has two families right now and a couple of single sims. I don't really have any favorite names.

Maria
Vivian
Aurora
Abigail

Rachel
The Santeros family is:

My favourite family to play is made up of BriAnna DeBarbarak, her daughter Audrey DeBarbarak and her son Gabriel DeBarbarak, and her adopted twins Akina and Takai DeBarbarak.
Some popular first names in my game are Gabriel, Noah, Julian, Jonah, Jordan, Issac, Ivan, Charlie, Jasper, Eli, Xavier and Liam for boys; Rayanne, Elenora, Felicity, Elia, Katya, Imogen, Isabella, Emilie, and Orchid. Last names I use frequently really depend on the family theme (Gothic, Medieval, ect), but a few of them include Harrows, O'Donahugh and Hollingsworth.

The names i'm using waaaay too much at the moment?
Amaryllis, Ky & Zane.
Amaryllis! *bounces* I have an RP character called Amaryllis (Ama), she's basically... me. Only shorter. So I get confused whenever I see anybody else using it. :D I love it, though, it's a beautiful name!
I tend to use different names for each sim, I get confused otherwise. But I have really weird systems...
For families who are only going to have a few kids (say, 1-3), I take the first letter of each of the parents' names, and find the letter exactly inbetween. The name of the first kid starts with that letter. Say they're going to have another two kids... it gets 'quartered', so the letter between the first letter of the oldest kid's and the first parent's name, then the same but for the other parent. If that makes any sense at all.
The other system is, with big families, the kids' names start with the same letter as one of their relative's names. That one's easier. :P
I'll list a couple of names later - suppertime! :D

Hmmm ... we both try very hard not to use the same first name twice, though we've accidentally done it.
I've used gemstone names for first and last names (Amethyst, Topaz, Diamond), flower names as first names (Lily, Violet), favorite musician names (Tomas, Guy, Paul, Noel and Liam, and Gallagher as a surname, though not Noel's or Liam's!) started a few Zodiac names for last names (Aries, Taurus, Gemini). I've used herb names for surnames. (Wintergreen, Basil, Cinnamon, Beebalm.) I've anagrammed a couple of surnames. (Danzer). I use a LOT of names from baby name websites based on particular characteristics. A blonde Sim might have a name meaning "golden", for instance. Many Sims have names of family members and friends. Oh, and many of my Sims have seasonal last names ... Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
My largest family is the Summer family. Rebecca and Guy are the matriarch and patriarch of that crew. They have twelve kids ... I think. At least three or four of the kids have married and have grandkids of their own. Most are single, a couple are still in college, and three live at home. I haven't even counted how many kids and grandkids there are in total! :)

My legacy family I guess you would call it is The Songs.
It all started with the girl I made: Kiwaley Dzieciol
I made 3 Song siblings: Chi Song (m), JaeJoong Song(m), and Lime Song(f).
Chi Song married Kiwaley Dzieciol, they had 3 kids:
Ch'un Song(m), Mao Song (m), and Chi Yang Song (f).
Ch'un Song marries Ophelia Nigmos who have a male child named Hsi Sheng Ell and have one on the way as of right now.
Mao Song marries Renee (maiden name I forgot) and have 2 male children: Chueh Ts'un Len and Ching T'ai.
Chi Yang Song marries Gordon the delivery guy and has one male child name Raphael Lee.
My family keeps having male children. I don't know why lol

I was playing with my first legacy family [got up to Gen4 and my laptop bust!] and I use supernatural skintones (mostly ones by Enayla). They were the Myth or Spirit family, so I used names of mythological animals, Greek Gods etc.
Spirit Family: Hades, Oceanus, Pegasus, Selkie, Chimera, Flame, Salamander, Siren, Hex, Saturn, Glory, Leviathan, Phantom, Chaos, Incubi, Deity, Knowledge, Pixie etc.
I think these names are beautiful and unique, but I admit I use 'Hex' far too often.

Most of my sims have ordinary names like George, Peter, Becky. But sometimes I go overborad with names like Aurora, Anderson, or Telemachus.
I also like names that aren't gender-specific or switch genders, so in my game I've got a guy named Gretchen, and a girl named Ryder.

The Macbeths are my longest running family, whom started out with fairly traditional names and progressed to the bizarre.
Gen 1 Edward Macbeth / Eurydice Macbeth
Gen 2 Isolde Dour, James Macbeth-Hart, Madison M-H, Ingrid Finn (née M-H), Alexander M-H and Theodore M-H / Verity Macbeth.
Gen 3 Christopher Dour / Eleanor and Ruby Macbeth-Hart / Helix, Panic and Mercutio Macbeth-Hart / Patrick, Murder and Redrum Finn / Ushabti Macbeth -Hart.
I've grown to prefer gender-neutral names, too.

Hi there :)
I generally use names of people I know, such as friends and relatives, when I'm starting out a new family. For example, my legacy founder is Rob Shumaker, after two friends of mine from college.
The names I use for the children come from a few different sources. Some are names of friends and family, some are just names I like. Others are names that I randomly pick in a babyname book.
My favorites so far (and most commonly used..) are:
Girls
Grace (Gracie)
Lily
Lucy
Ana
Scarlet
Boys
Rylan
Nolan
Brady
Isaiah
Micah
My legacy sim, Rob, has married the maid, Kaylynn, and they have twins, Isaiah and Gracie. The twins are children, and they also have a baby named Isaac.

I'm playing an alphabet legacy family, and the theme of their family is pi (you know, 3.14159265358979...) with the length of the name corresponding to the digit of pi they fall on--the founder has three letters to her name, the first Sim born into the legacy has 11 letters to his, and so on. Their last name is Perimetron, the Greek word for "perimeter" (the perimeter, or circumference, of a circle divided by its diameter = pi).
My Poverty Challenge founder is named Penny Penury ("penury" means poverty, kind of), and her firstborn daughter is named Millicent :).
Favorite first names for Sims: Lily, Madeline/eleine, Julia, Phoebe. I don't use any names too often because I try to find names that "fit" the family.
Lucidity: Love your family's naming scheme!

If I have trouble thinking of names I pick the names of places or objects, occasionally food, books and I combine the names of other sims to make an original name.
Usually these days I simply go to a website of names a look at names. I favor sites that have names from all over the world, so then I will end up with a very interesting neighborhood. :D

The names I choose, it depends what mood I'm in sometimes,.
A couple of times I've used names from books - Emerahl, from AUM, is from "The Age of Five" trilogy, and Bannor, from the Two Hearts contest, is a name from the books of "Thomas Covenant."
I had one family that has a few normal flower names - Rose, Daisy. That kind of thing. If I have an alien Sim I tend to use either made-up names that sound "out there" or space-y type of names.
Another family, every offsprings name in the first gen began with a D. One of their daughters continued on a "same letter" tradition, but they all began with B, another A, etc.
Others, it depends on whether my Sim is Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, French, etc. Then I'll use names from those cultures, to stay true to them.
Another, with the characters from a roleplay, whenever they have a child, their kids have names that reflect their parents'. For example:
Mother: Xeia
Father: Mikal
Child: Kaleia
It makes the names unique, because they're original; and it shows automatically what family they come from.

The neighborhood is Quadrant 3. There are humanoid type aliens in Quadrant 3 that have come from some very strange places. One entire group was on their way to an important conference when they crashed there. They found themselves an old bunker-type building and have been holed up until they can figure out a way to get off the planet. They're a rather backward race and are afraid to explore much to see what's happening around them and aren't even aware there are quite a few other beings already living on the planet. They stay in their bunker all the time. Their names are Zork, Zula, Faylma, Feldar, Cron and Crayel Starza.
Zephraim Zui was sent to this planet for therapeutic reasons. He's severely agoraphobic and won't leave his house for anything, either. Occasionally he walks out the front door and looks at the weather and he collects his mail and pays his bills. He doesn't even want to go and get the newspaper. His therapist works with him through his computer.
The Thanas, Camb and Klaa families came to Quadrant 3 from a far off place because of the potential wealth on the planet. Their goal is to try to take over financially, and so far they're on the right track. Rand Camb is only a teenager yet he owns the only privately-owned business on the planet. Vardok Klaa just married a smuggler by the name of Androicia.
There are many Townies as well: Cuz Cosmi, Franesse Beeblebrox, Gal'Lax, I'Aysha, Igyo, Jellendria, Jennail, Kalesta, Keval, Landreth, La'Larea, Magnas, Mandolin, Maylor, Oria, Plagenet, Renthoreth, Rokobo, Sifer, Stel'Lar, Tagmeth, Tarah, Trillian, Xuaraguan, Yesmeth, Zaphod, Zephyr, Zham, Zoren, and Zuider.
There are more names to be sure--I'm just too lazy to type all of them right now.

I usually use the following names for my sims:
- Elisa
- Lily
- Lisa
- Rocky

I remember yesterday I created a family with Rroog as their last name. I can never think of good last (and first?) names. So I found this site: http://www.xtra-rant.com/gennames/. Might be helpful to others as well!

i get really stuck for names after a bit, a lot of my sims are named for characters in books, or authors. Once i looked at the names of all the game designers in one of our PC games for ideas. there i found the name Jirka Dell'Oro-Friedl, which i just thought was fab, and throught breeding i now have loads of Dell'Oro-Friedls. I'm in love with Japanese culture, so a lot of my sim families seem to be Japanese (stole many of those names from battle royale). I have a thing for giving girls a name which is often reserved for boys, or naming boys with a name which often would be a surname. also, sometimes i name them after whatever day of the week they were born, or maybe if they were the third child they'd be called Trinity or similar. One of my sims had a baby in mid-winter and i called the child Winter Snow. other than that i tend to use these names a lot:
-Dallas
-Ella
-Ava
-Ruby
-Lola
-Henderson
-Peter
-Holly
-Hershey

I use behindthename.com if I'm stuck for a name, or else I just use something I like/means something that usually relates to the Sim. Some of my favorites:
-Eustathios
-Thanatos
-Naomi (Naomi and Thanatos are names for more morbid sims - or in this case, pets - who are paired together in some way.)
-Illia (Not really my style, but meh)
-Marius
-Maria
-Mazini (Last name)
-Minali (Last name - meaning fish, I believe)
-Basil
-Marnina
-Cantina
-Royce (Cantina and Royce are always paired together!)
-Ronan

I usually just stick to everyday English names, occasionally something with a deffinite Welsh, Gael or even Manx flavour, sometimes Scandanavian (my mothers people are all English and Scottish, my Dads are Scottish for the last couple of hundred years, but for centuries before that, all his people were Vikings: Hence my Viking surname).
But some times the random computer generated Sims give to me, through CAS or as Townies/Hoodies/Students will be so screwed up, that I just have to make them progenitor of a legacy of degenerates.
Like I have the 'Snortch-Blarrrpz' family.
Originated from a Sim lady who moved into my Sims college Dorm.
Lucy. She would always make the worst choices of social interactions, thus always get rejected, she was anoying, and was always teased, would often try to pick on other Sims, in desperation for attention, only to have them slap her til she cried, kick her butt or just laugh in her face. She was fat, ugly and stupid, she was lazy, she stank, she worried all the time, any object that could break, blow up, or start a fire would do so when she used it (dont know how she didnt die), would ofetn spoend her time randomly bursting into tears over some issue she had.
All in all she was a pathetic loser who made me laugh, and allowed me to indulge my most evil dark side, if I ever wanted to traumatised abuse or endanger a Sim for some experimental purpose, it was Lucy.
The Up side was she didnt care about living in a messy house, money (she wanted romance), object quality having fun etc etc (she just waated to whoohoo and be loved, by anyone, her gender bias was pretty even, but even with both genders to chose from she always got shot down HAHA!)
So I created a Husband for her, Glorpk, also a pathetic loser.
They had five children, and they all now have families of their own, full of horrid little scumbags just like their grandparents.
They have names like
Spankums Grubbyminge Zronky and her husband Fungus "Like Cousins" Zronky
Mollype Pollyp Mouldsweat, and his two sisters, Loopy Stains, and Heffer 'McStumbles'
There is also the Bimblesquiggies: Namfoodle, Blympootin, their children Ehllibomptin Leakydress, Lungfish, and Garbadge Day (Twin boys, one looked like a Lung Fish, the other did too, but they were born on Garbage day as well).
Get the picture, when ever I get a Random PC generated Sim that is the diamtric opposite to this, I also of course have to give them befitting names, like Allegra, Jet or Paris, but that craps easy, just pick up a copy of Soapie Magazine, or Dolly, you know.
Much harder to come up with loser name that truely encapsulate just how much of a pathetic degenerate my useless, Borat would say 'Big Retardt' Sims are.

I go with whatever strikes my fancy at the moment, and usually I try to go for names that aren't common. Sometimes I get caught up in themes, especially if the Sim or Sim parents are, say, very trendy, or nerdy.
For example, Briar Rose Clearcalm named her first daughter Aurora. And Briar Rose's brother, Linus, named his son Rerun ;)
Other names I've used:
Megan

I use fairly normal names, though I'm not sure how generic they are (I usually do British and American names although I'm a Finn).
Some of my favourite sims:
Kati Matos
Cressida Carr
Siobhan O'Flanaghan
Liam Tinderdale
Rory Carr
Michael Wilkes.
My longest lived legacy was founded by by Morris Lockheart, who had Darcy and Dali with Marylena Hamilton. Darcy married a blonde cheerleader and had Charles, Cecil and Cherry. He also had, umm, three illegitimate children me thinks. Cecil had three children with Kaylynn Langerak and two with Lauren the pizzagirl, but I cannot remember what their names were, except the one that became the heir, she was Echo, and her daughter, the heir was Fiona. Darcy, Cecil and his eldest son were all romance sims, even though their aspirations were of course decided by dice. :D
My current legacy founder is called Fiona Maple, she married Joel Jefferson and they have twins, Echo and Eden.

I'm a terrible last-namer, I usually go to a census page and pick a number, and just use that one. And it's not that I'm bad at giving my Sims first names, I just take an incredibly long time to decide on one. I can have the game paused for 2 or 3 hours while I look for a name. :err:

Some of my sims' names:
Top Hat Eric Larsen
A celeb chef who, you guess it, wears the top hat. He's a Lothario who's bedded half the 'hood women. He is also responsible for the very first pair of twins I had in the game - from an illicit affair with ChaeYun Kim-Gunn, the exotic wife of soldier boy Tommy Gunn.
Preacher Bob Priestly
Another playboy, responsible for woohooing the other half.
My very first family ever; the very first time I played The Sims 2; was the Leung family. Daddy Tony, Mommy Esther, son Jackie and daughter Jenny. Tony made Mayor and Esther reached the top of the Business career. Together they cheated Landgraab off a trucking deal, haha.
All of them got wiped out when my PC's harddisks crashed. In my current hood, the Leungs and the Gunns (now the Bradleys) have been recreated. The resident Casanova is now a certain Don Bronson, robot manufacturer and brother of robot selling proprietor James Bronson. Their brand 'Bronson Bots' dominate the hood.

I tend to use names of authors, models, and characters. I'll also look through magazines and see if I can find a name. Or I'll just look around my room when I'm very braindead and whatever word comes up I'll use in some variation.
I'm also obsessed with French names for my sims.

This thread is awesome. It's so nice to see what other people are doing about names.
I'm in generation 8 in the legacy challenge so names are starting to become few and far between. But I always have names that I use over and over.
Last Names
Champion
Dagger
Bain
Prescott
Lockhart
Browning
For first names I usually have one way before hand for either a boy or a girl, and the names are usually really distinct. Next up for a boy is Rudyard and for a girl is Aeryn. If I pick a very common name, there's a reason for it, usually I name the sim after a TV character, which I do a lot of the time.
Boys Names
Riley
Finn
Alex
Chance
Everrett
Emmett
Schyler
Tracer

when thinking of uncommon names, I either switch the genders, make last names first names, think of a descriptive word I like, think of a character I like, think of a song I like, Or sometimes they just come to me out of nowhere.

I know I mix and match names from TV shows actors I was previously watching that night. Sometimes I'll mix the characters in the show's name with an actor's name, such as:
Derrick Walsh. Cookies to everyone that know where that name came from. ;D
Also, I was cooking and my sister had mentioned okra, and I thought it would be a cool name. So I'm planning to make a clan of sisters named: Okra, Oatmeal and Honey O' Tarian. (last name was based of the word vegetarian)

Those are the main ones. They mainly come from books, movies and TV: Seth and Summer are from the OC, which was on when Brandi had twins. I got Cerise from a bottle of Black Cherry Soda-- it was turned on the french side, and it said "Cerise Noire," which is where I got that surname from as well. Vendetta was from V for, Jasper and Rosalie were from the book Twilight, April and May were... well, duh; and Apollonia was from the Godfather.

I'm hyperventilating over the idea of reusing names. I can't do it. Can. Not. Do. It. Hang on. *breathes in and out of paper bag* Ok, ok. I'm feeling better now, thanks.
I only tried a legacy one time and my drunken gnat attention span kicked in and I wandered off about the third or fourth generation. Trying to remember what I called them. Ok, I had to go look. The founder's name was, get this, Dinah Stee. Captain Dork, at your service. :) I named them based on what generation they were: I did a lot of research to see what names would fit and had written down possibilities for each gen. I have no idea where that list is, but here's what I remember.
Legacy:
Founder: Dinah Stee (I have an unfortunate proclivity for naming by pun. It's sad, it is.)
2nd gen: Twyla (kinda looks like two)
3rd gen: Tertia and Trey
This would be where I lost interest and now I don't remember any 4th, 6th, 9th, or 10th gen names. I'm sure that's a real shame.
5th gen: Quincy, Quentin
7th gen: Seven (heh)
8th gen: Otto, Octavian(a)
General population:
My very favoritest sad pun name was Helena Troy. :D Really, I just can't help myself.
My poor little sim who never gets played and basically lives on the lot where I build temporary sets is named Grace Host. (See? It's really bad.)
My all-time favorite sim is Sabine Harris, named after my home town and my mom's family name. Her hubby is Jackson and their son is Anton.
My favorite family's names are:
Mom: Lisette Adam (ah-DAHM: After my friend's Belgian ex. I just liked the name.)
Dad: Tarik Jones
Son: Adam Jones (but this Adam is pronounced the usual Americano way.)
Then there's:
Cal & Ava McPherson and their daughter Shasta. (They are nature lovers and named her after the mountain.)
Alicia (a-LEES-ee-a) Delgado and her brother, whatshisname, Marco? Mario? Sam?
Susannah somethingorother: don't like her very much and never play her. She's a scene filler.
Cheyne O'Malley: current fave
Mav Hayes: brand new, not even in game yet
Usually, I create the sim first and then let them "tell" me their name. Ya know, something that suits them. I do try to avoid names of people I know. I name my pets by the same method. Maybe slightly nutty, but it works for me. Just ask Milo, Jasper, and Stanley. :D

At the moment, I'm only playing one lot, but it has two families living on it.
George & Nadia Westfield have a son named Julian.
Rufus & Coral Montgomery have a daughter named Gracie.
Julian & Gracie are teens and dating. They'll be married as soon as they become adults.

Currently played Sims in Snobville (yes I know, not terribly creative, but the two families are incredibly rich.) are:
Lion - In order from oldest to youngest
Michael
Marissa
Camryne (Female, Currently at University)
Laelia (Female, twin of Lucius, child)
Lucius (Male, child)
Keegan (Male, child)
Tiernan (Male, toddler)
Hestia (Female, baby)
Callaghan - In order from oldest to youngest
Ciara (Female)
Camlin (Male)
Condon (Male, Twin of Bram, child)
Bram (Male, child)
Adalardo (Male, child)
Dagda (Male, toddler)
Another one on the way. :)
The goal with these two families is to single handedly populate the neighborhood, though I will introduce one or two more families as things progress. Don't want them to get too inbred.
I've tended to stick with a Roman/Celtic name theme in this neighborhood using mythology books, my own memory and Celtic/Roman baby name lists. Other names I have used are from people I actually know (Liam, Raiscara), names from my own stories (Genessa, Cian) and your basics (Michael, Susie, Tom, Peter etc).
Quick question...what is this "Legacy" I keep hearing people mention?

I always decide on the look or ethnicity of the sims which last name they have. I have sims of many ethnicitys in my game:
Amèlie Delacroix, a French girl
Leon, Linda, Lars & Lisa, Lukas Buchholz, a German family
Aryana and Jason Woods, both North American with African heritage
Deniz Sahin from Turkey and her daughters Selin, Nilay and Sule
Li Mei from China
Dina Berkovitch who has Jewish ancestors
Anne Becker from Austria
Sven Bergström from Sweden
Niamh and Fionn O'Sullivan from Ireland with their children Liadan, Sean and Íde
and so on. There are some sites for names, first and last, which are a great help once I decided which nationality my sim should have. There aren't any names I really prefer, I just try to have a great variety.

I have hardly any Sims in my game,
because i only play when i feel like it.
But i have the Fraudy family at the moment,
and the mum would like 10 Children.
I locked it, and this is their family:
Kevin - Father
Kim - Mother
Fred - Boy Twin
Daphne - Girl Twin
Peter - Brother
Nick - Brother
Donna - Sister.
And i plan to populate them, with MUCH help of the maxMotives cheat,
once the Twins move out, i'll start baby-making again.

i like 'J' names for some reason, jo , jason, jackie ect. but i don't stick with familys much i get easily distracted ( i also name sims by combinign people in my classes names
Sounds like the Bean family I used to have in Sims 1. Basically they were my take on the Real World except my ultimate goal (never achieved BTW) was to have every male sim hook up with every female sim with as little damage to their other relationships as possible.
The all J name concept came from the old Sesame Street song by I want to say How Now Brown and the Moo Crowd. "J. Joe Jeans and His Jelly Beans."
The eight Bean family members we're Jay, Jo, Jean, Jim, Jason, Julie, Jamal and Jamika. Initially Jay would pair off with Jo. Jean with Jim. Jason with Julie. And Jamal with Jamika as they were the black couple in the house. The other six would be white. Although if I made them in Sims 2, the other six would likely be more racially mixed. Tried to keep Sim creation simple in Sims 1. Never got all the hookups done but was always fun trying. Haven't done them much in Sims 2 though because aging off and cash cheating hasn't been as much fun this time around.

My newest legacy family's last name is "Zombie." And for every first name I use an action or description word that would fit in front of Zombie to make it a bit funny.
Right now there is Falling, Limping and Ura Zombie.
I tend to never use the same name more than twice in my neighborhood for my other simmies.

I do love giving my sims weird, quirky, or messed up names! In one incarnation of my game, I have a sim named Sal Monella. I've got names like Ralph Bombers, Roy Device... Also, I take names from the news. I was watching the weather channel, and there was this lady named Angela Deputy. Was watching a show about cold case murders and there was this lady named Ro Morse. No lie. When her named showed up on the screen, I was a little confused at first. Then it became almost comical to watch people struggle to not say REmorse!
For my new neighborhood in a pretty much clean game, I'm going with more normal names. My farmer family consists of Blaise and Appolonia (and their twin boys whose names I can't remember right now) Diamond. I had to refrain from naming one son Rich;)

I do something different for each family... I like making it seem like they named the kids themselves instead of me. Makes each family a little more individual, they all have something different going on.
With my Dawson family I'm using a D and T theme... all males have D names, all females have T names. So far we've got Drake, Tanis, Damon, Terri, Drew and Tyler. When one of my Stanford men got alien pregnant, he named his daughter Xandria after his husband Alex (if she'd been a boy she would've been Xander). My Kohelet family is all Asian (aside from the fact that Kohelet isn't an Asian name) so their children all have Asian names, and when my transvestite serial killer has the Grim baby I'm planning on him having, I'm sure he'll give him a girl's name, because he's just like that. (He WILL have a boy, even if I have to retry 100 times.)

My source for names differs quite a bit from family to family, but my current favorite family names are the Fey family (admittedly, I did drop the ball on the surname): Father Io, mother Tethys, teenage daughter Europa, teenage son Arcturus, and newly-grown male child Castor. They're all named after stars or moons, which I look up in an astrological atlas I've had since elementary school.
Mythology is always a nice place, too, for me to pick out names; with Norse mythology, you not only get one name, but you get names for generations back and forward. Right now I have the Liesmith family, with Loki, Sigyn, Vali and Narvi. Should Loki feel the need to have more children, there's always a giantess sim waiting to be introduced to give him his last three children (Hel, Jormungand, Fenrir).

Because I'm the kind of person who completely over-analyzes everything, I already have all my sims' lives planned out before their even born. I like to give them names to correlate with their personality, looks, or lifestyles. For example, I like to give gender-neutral names to my more androgynous sims (Perin, Riley, Peyton); classical, romantic names to my romantic sims (Caesar, Aurora, Calista); and wild names to my rebellious sims (Pierce, Roxanne, Shay). Then there's the ethnic names like Mei Ling, Azumi, and Tanishia. I like having names that actually match up with my sims. :]

I like to use some variety to the names for my sims (I actually keep a listing of names I've used and names I'd like to use, first and last). I won't choose names that hold some kind of bad feeling for me, and I refuse to use my own name (so there are no little girls running around named "Josie"), but I love the names for everyone that I have in my game right now. Names I've been using are:
Boys
Aaron, Alejandro, Alex, Andrew/Andy, Anthony, Brian, Casey, Charles, Chris, Christien, Cory, Daniel/Danny, Dave/David, Eduardo, Evan, Henry, Jack, Jason, Josh, Lucas, Marc, Marty, Matt/Matthew, Max, Mike, Nate, Noah, Nicholas, Niklas, Peter, Ran, Ron, Ryan, Sam, Sean, Sébastien, Seth, Shawn, Stephen, Timothy, Tom/Tommy, Will/William

I sometimes use family names but somehow I get stuck on letters too-like if a family has twins, triplets or several kids then often they will have start with the same letter like Megan, Michelle, Michael, Marie.....
I actually keep a little baby names book by my computer and when I want to think of something different then I look in it. I also sometimes really like to make the name something special such as related to the relationship they have or in honor of an elder and so on
Testudo
25th Jan 2008, 01:06 AM
I get names from name-your-baby websites when I am dealing with a 'normal' family. If a family is of a specific ethnic background I often surf through appropriate web sites to find names.
Alien babies have been: Andromeda, Cassiopeia, and Lacerta. The Beakers have had children with obscure mythological names: Eisa and Megaera. Even I can't remember their origins (I think Eisa was a daugther of Loki).
I am absolutely done with creating Sims: any new editions to the world are born into it. Then I name the child according to the imagination (or lack thereof), social standing, and ethnicity of the parents.

I mostly just use average names, throwing in odd ones every so often.
Back in the Sims 1 I had a fellow named Euston Codson who was a complete jerk and very outgoing to boot (he'd stop by his neighbor's houses all the time and pick fights with them - I would see items in their queues like "be shoved"). I have been meaning for a long time to regenerate the Codson family for the Sims 2. I also have a family called the Pi'Reet family, who of course all look like pirates.

Babynames.com is my best friend for this kind of thing, I swear!
Right now I'm doing an alphabet legacy (26 gens, one for each letter) and I'm trying to give them more unique names than the generic John, Jane etc. (No offense meant to anyone with those names). So far I have founder Audrey, Gen2 Byron and Beatrix, and Gen 3 Clarissa.
Alien babies tend to get names based on constellations/Mythology (Casseopia, Orion, Leo, Diana etc.) or something heavenly related (Luna, Stella)
I had a couple once, based on an RPG I as in who had 14 kids. The husband was a Shogun, and all their names were either related to warriors/fighting or the dragon god he served.
So basicly I tend to have a theme for certain things and stick with them pretty religiously LOL

Since I began my new neighborhood, San Jose, I'm working on making lists for the game to generate. It will be comprised solely of Spanish names. I already have a few funky Englishmen walking around and I don't want anymore. xD
Besides that, I have one legacy family named The Spice Family. The founder's name is Ginger. If she has a girl, her name will be Paprika, if she has a boy, then I'm thinking of naming him Thyme. ;]

Well, as of right now on my new desktop I have a family called the Praswells.
I guess I go by "whatever feels good" and whatever comes to my mind.
Latisha Praswell and Leod Praswell had three children.
Baxter, Damion, and Howard. I believe 2 were adopted.
Damion and Howard grew up and went to college together while Baxter stayed behind.
Damion met Daisy, a cheerleader, in college.
Howard met Hailey, a cow, in college also.
Damion and Daisy had one child and adopted 5. They are as follows: Alex, Kyle, Ocean, Amy, Alon, and Beth. Kyle is the only blood child of their family.
Howard and Hailey are focusing on their careers but have just today adopted a child, hopefully they will get a girl and a boy eventually (so all that damn money in clothes didn't go to waste.)

I love naming my Sims after literary characters. I currently have a Haleth (The Silmarillion), an Elanor (Lord of the Rings), an Elizabeth (Pride and Prejudice - although I flatly refuse to name a Sim 'Fitzwilliam' outside of my Regency neighborhood), and an Alice (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking-Glass). The names really depend on what I'm reading - after rereading 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe', I wound up with unrelated Sims named Peter, Edmund, Lucy, and Susan. I used to have an Estella and a Herbert (both from Great Expectations), Rose (more LotR) and Rowena (from 'Ivanhoe')
I'm toying with the idea of giving a Sim one of the weirder literary names I've come across lately - for example, I'm currently slogging through Moby-Dick for my English class, and I really want to name a Sim Ishmael, because it's a fun word to say.

What are your favourite names that you tend to use a lot in your game? What are the names of your favourite families, and your legacy family? Do you have any cute themes that you use?
Right now, I have Gary and Christobel Oldman. They're my Legacy Family, but we'll see if I get past generation two with it - lol. Gary Oldman is for the actor of the same name, of course. Christobel is my self sim (that's not my name, though) and her name comes from a character in a book called 'The Last Convertible'. I love that character, so swiped her name for myself. Their daughter is named Selene, because Selene is one of the Moon Goddesses, and it seemed appropriate.
I have Sarah and Mitch Jones, siblings. They are Jones not because I am uncreative, but because I modeled Sarah on a friend of mine and her last name is Jones. Sarah, I chose because it just goes with Jones, you know? Mitch's name was chosen utterly randomly. They've a dog named Hestia, because I was in a Harry Potter mood at the time - lol.
In fact, I use HP character names a lot, now that I think about it. Or derivatives of the same. Flower names for women, downright strange ones for men. I need to make a realistic Minerva McGonagall next, I think. Then I have to decide who to pair her with...Xiomara Hooch or a grown up Harry?

My favorite is the Santiago family.
Adrian - father
Karlina - mother
Alani
Jazmina & Elias - twins
Malaya
Liliana & Lisette - twins
I don't know if Karlina's a real name but I really like it. There a girl named Karli on a show I watch called Karlifornia on MTV Tr3s so I did a twist on the her name. Alani is that MTV VJ LaLa's real name, I liked it. I made up Jazmina. I read on some baby names website that Malaya means "free" in the Filipino language - Tagalog, I think? I don't know but I liked it. The others are just names I like a lot.

I have a set of names that I like and I tend to think up characters (or their children!) that will fit my naming desires. As such, I've got a ton of girls running around my neighborhoods, since they're the names I like best.
I've decided to do a heiress-based Legacy challenge (where I make them have lots of girl babies!), since those are the names I like, and I also decided to do each generation in A-B-C order. Later, I decided that 26 generations might be a bit ambitious for one legacy neighborhood, so I made another legacy neighborhood, where I started backwards, with Z-Y-X, etc. Only, I was having trouble coming up with enough X names, so X started that legacy, and then I went back to Z and Y, and W will be the letter for gen 4, putting it back on track.
In ABC legacy (Starr Family), Anita Starr married a townie, Chase, had Bethany and Brenna Starr. Brenna was heiress, so she went on to have Charlotte, Caroline, and Clara Starr. Bethany, since she was the spare, went off and married Nathan Neptune, a CAS YA I had her room with in college. They adopted Sara Allegra Neptune. (I really like the name Sara, but as it's my brother's girlfriend's name, I didn't feel right using the name Sara alone. I thought Allegra went nicely went with it.) And then Bethany later gave birth to Nora Audrey Neptune, since I wanted to continue the two-name trend with her kids, at least.
XYZ Legacy (Mallory family), Xena Mallory married a townie, Joe, and they had Zara and Zelda Mallory. Zara was deemed heiress, and she married and gave birth to Yolanda and Yuki Mallory. Zelda married and became a Violet, before having Stella and Shelby. (I decided to use an S-theme there.) Zara and Zelda also had a brother, Zachary, accidentally, and since he's a romance sim, he's got no plans to settle down yet. Maybe after he achieves his LTW of whoo-hooing 20 sims.
The "extras" in the ABC lot have names plucked from the planets, while the "extras" in XYZ lot and my Asylum challenge family were named after flowers. My "creatures" all were named after natural forcess. Monica Earth, plantsim (She works with the 'earth'.) Miranda Sun, vampire (sun kills her). James Moon, werewolf (the moon transforms him). Jonathan Ocean, zombie, and his alien daughter (given birth to while he was alive, obviously), Lyn (It went with the rest of the theme.) Then there's the Servo, named Asimov after Issac Asimov, what with his famous Three Laws of Robotics.
The next non-related family I create will probably get the last names Earth, Wind/Air, Fire, and Water.
Other sims that I like include the sisters Molly and Samantha Lily, and Molly's girlfriend, Amy June.

If I want my family to be of a certain descent, I try and find names and middle names to go with the country that the surname originates from.
Example: The Maselli's. They are of Italian descent and dad, Dominic, has 5 kids: Sabrina, Gianna, Natalia, Daniela, Veronica and a boy, Salvatore. When I was playing the entire family that had so many kids and were mixed up so much that I ended up sticking with just Sal's family. Sal had 3 kids and married a woman of Russian/Polish and Irish descent. Their kids were Ava Marie, Corrado Joseph, Dario Nikolai (Polish influence), and Geno Michelangelo. I love adding the middle names! I often try and get creative and often find myself on baby-name websites. When I was playing Ava Marie's family I wanted them to have British names as well as Italian: Aryn Violet, Alistar Gianni, & Coulter Marino. Right now with C.J.'s family I ran out of middle names and just stuck with Italian sounding names: Liliana and Rosalie. Sage came about because I wanted the girls to have "flowery" names and couldn't think of one for a male, so he became a "herb". :)
My Kakura's were my first family and I just wanted cool and unique names. They were supposed to be of Japanese and Irish descent, only their middle and last names reflected the Japanese. I don't recall them off hand but their 1st names were pretty cool: Emerson (oldest girl), Presley, and Dallas.

I try not to repeat names that often, cause its get confusing, but my favorite guy's names are Landon and Josiah, and I know I've had several of those. I think I've reused Emma a few times as well. Right now I'm just playing the families that came in Pleasentview, but I can tell you the names of Angela and Dustin's kids! Their first born is Juliana, who is now a teen, and their twin girls names are Sara and Leila, who just started school. :) Ang is full term again, and we're hoping for a boy this time.

Right now, I'm playing my first legacy family, the Montgomery family.
My founder, Cheyenne, is married to a downtownie named Noah. Together they have two kids, Aidan and Audra. Aidan was abducted and recently gave birth to an alien daughter, whose name is Luna.
Not many sims in my legacy to name so far, but I do have a rather extensive list of names I want to use.

I've actually got two legacy families, the Thorpes and the Hills. I've named them in alphabetical order according to their generation.
I tend to like naming my characters things like "Anna" or "Anastasia" or something. I'm not particular with my naming, really. I'll call characters whatever makes sense, though I do like naming characters after places - "Maywood," "Brooklyn," "Paris," "India" et cetera.

I use a mixture of fairly ordinary and unusual (and even silly names). I have a custom random name package in my downloads folder so that my townies/NPCs will all have names in keeping with those I give to my playable Sims.
Some of my favorite names in my current game are random names given to townies and NPC's:
Honor Trust - Female carpool driver.
Clever Bootstrap - Male uni student.
Crime Shadygreen - Female uni student.
Lucius Ottertrap - Male grand vampyre.

I'm fairly boring with the names I create, but I usually name my sims after people I know or musicians/old hollywood actors. The family I'm playing right now:
Bacall - named after Lauren Bacall, I love her!
Ben Bacall - father and named after my childhood crush
Kristen Bacall - mother/wife and I just chose a random generic name because I drew a blank while naming her :D
Emmy Bacall - daughter; named after Emmy Rossum
River Bacall - son; named after River Pheonix
Mike Bacall - son; named after my boyfriend :)
Carey Bacall - daughter, and I know the names don't really go together but I promised my friend I'd name one after her :)

lol i actually have an old baby book that i use a lot and I use stuff from whatever I'm watching on TV at the time...
My fave right now is The Tudors: Henry, Anne and baby Elizabeth (can anyone guess what thats from? :D)
I also have Hendrikson and Grant families from the HBO series "Big Love". In the past I've had familys with names from Law & Order: SVU and Judging Amy... My favorite people names at the moment are Lilly and Roman...
I use an old baby book too! Its my best friend when I'm making/naming new Sims!
When I'm naming Sims I mostly take the Sim's class into account... especially in my medieval hood.
My favourite upper class/rich/important sims names -
Male -
Benedict
Frederick
Harold
Demetrius
Lawrence
Lombard
Lancelot
Female -
Elizabeth
Catherine
Seraphina
Adelaide
Evangeline
Augusta
Henrietta
Middle class names are a big mix, quite often shortened versions of upper class names or 'modern' names (I find middle class Sims the most boring in my medieval hood lol)
Male -
Benjamin
Harry
Lance
Ernest
George
Female -
Bethany
Kathryn
Lynette
Helen
Gladys
Poor/lower class Sim's names are usually short and plain (in comparison to high class names; this helps me distinguish between them and gives me a guide for the class of NPC Sims)
Male -
John
Ben
Chris
Philip
Simon
Female -
Mary
Anne
Sally

I did have one spree of naming families by theme:
La Fleur Family: Iris, Rose, Violet (you get the idea)

My fave right now is The Tudors: Henry, Anne and baby Elizabeth (can anyone guess what thats from? :D)
omg! my favorite family is the Tudors!!!!! 122 and growing :) to keep track of them, i name them according to birth order, in typical royal fashion...Queen/King, Prince/Princess, Duke/Duchess, Lord/Lady, Sir. i know, goofy, but i came up with it years ago...
as for their legit names, i usually take them from whatever book i'm reading, and i try to give kids from the same parents names from the same book (hard when i take a break from the specific parents and haven't read the book in a while...) i have ones from Kate Elliot's Crown of Stars series, Frank Herbert's Dune, Mists of Avalon, and my latest trend, Shakespeare...Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing. I also do movies when i get bored with books; Emma, Battlestar Galactica, etc.
Then of course, there's my various plant sim themes; the oceans, plant names, trees...
During finals :D i name sims after whatever i'm studying, so i end up with things like Clemenceau, Constantine, Tiberius, etc. helps me remember them for the test too!
My fav names at the moment are:
Princess Rebecka Tudor (a favorite, i'm on the sixth generation of her line at the moment.)
Prince Logan Tudor (Dark Angel)
Queen Adelheid Tudor (Crown of Stars)
Adriatica Merovingian (plant sim)
Prince Tybalt Sampson (Romeo and Juliet) (Tiffany's son)
Sir Conrade Jitmakusol (Much Ado About Nothing) (Regina's son, hate the last name, but hey, Regina refused Prince Alexius Tudor's marriage proposal, Regina Tudor would've been a good name, sigh.)
Lady Jayne Tudor (i've got one of her in every generation, because in the second generation i had a teenage sim Lady Jayne but she died, she was the first sim to die on me, and i had had big plans for her, so i always name one sim after her in each generation...kinda backfired when i revived her...)

I try to name my sims based on the type of charcter I want them to be.
I currently have:
Naomi Banks - a model named after Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks
Miles Tonkley - A SBB type who's a sports star. Tonkley as in 'tonk' (I think that's a London/UK phrase) or 'buff'
Vicky Vixen - a young socialite who likes to party and meet young guys
The Kawasakis - A japanese family (I was lacking inspiration that day!)
Aretha Nubian - a natural righteous sista who's the mayor of my custom neighbourhood
Isabella Fanucci - An Italian single mum with twins for Peter Ottamas
Myra Uppity - She's a bit stuck up
The Urbles - as in urban. A mixed raced couple with one son
Lil Big Jones - My homeboy-soon-to-be-rapper when i can be bothered to finish making the career
Steven Strong - another SBB type
Fatima Boum Boum - a big-boned girl named after the song 'Hey Fatty Boom Boom'

I'm about to start my game over, but my legacy sims were named McGillicutty. That was Lucy's maiden name from "I Love Lucy", and the one she always gave when she was up to no good and didn't want her husband to find out.
I'll probably just go back to Sims this time. [dork]
For first names, I try to think of one that compliments there character or what I intend to do with them. If I can't think of anything, I usually just randomly generate one. I tend to lean toward more realistic names that I encounter in the U.S.

I've been accumulating names for a Victorian neighborhood that I plan on creating when I can play Sims again. (My laptop died, and the family desktop's graphics card died immediately after that.) I always give my sims unique names. I invent them when I create the sims. Names like Amera, Sychedelie, Naema, Sarisa, Amareea, Ariss, Samira, Zharick are just some of my females name. My real life dogs are named Khianna - female and Ra-Moon - male, so yeah, I am into unique, crazy names. I like the last name to be short and nice like Harash, Leon, Du'Olivier, Said, Elix. I don't usually play with men so male names are common like Tom or a little bit unique like Sajed. :)

I've just started the asylum challenge, and I was stuck as to what to choose for the surname that will not only help me remember that they're part of the asylum but also won't sound too odd when one of them escaped and started a family or whatever.
So they are called the "Crayse" family. Hehe.

I sometimes like to use themes when naming my Sims. For instance, right now, I have a family in my game where everyone born into the family is named after a song. So... Iris, Jack, Diane, Sharona, Judith, Thomas, Rose, Maxwell, Sadie, Lucy, etc.
As for last names, I just go with whatever sounds good to me at the moment (even if it's a weird combination of syllables), which means that there can be some weird-sounding names.

I have noticed, that nowadays I name my Sims in alphabetical order. First one will start with A, next with B and so on... My family Koivu had kids called, Antti (m), Benjamin (m), Cecilia (f), Daniel (m), Elisa (f)...
I use mainly Finnish names, only if my sim really is "foreigner", he might have foreigner names. Lastnames are often by trees. Like Vaahtera, Koivu and Tammi (Maple, Birch and Oak).

I have noticed, that nowadays I name my Sims in alphabetical order. First one will start with A, next with B and so on...
I did that when I was playing around (briefly) with an Asylum.
Unrelated to that, I found a list of very unusual names in an article about New Zealand.
In New Zealand it is illegal to name your child:
Talula Does the Hula
Fish and Chips
Yeah Detroit
Keenan Got Lucy
Sex Fruit
In New Zealand, parents have been allowed to name their children:
Number 16 Bus Shelter
Violence

I use Beatrice as a last name.. kind of weird of me, eh? I don't have a lot of sims in my game, so it's easy for me to remember most of their names..: Burmey, Eliza, Alexandra, Candice, Juliette, Don, Kevin, Neil, Ravi, Ryan, Robin, Amy, Sara, Nathaniel, Jacob, Curtis, Brandon, Kathleen, Manda & Mandy, Jesse, Jessica, Roy, Lakin, Noah.. the list goes on.
For last names I have Beatrice, Berche, Cherish, Jones, Ashtun, and I think there is even more. :)

I usually use strange names... because I love them so much.
Example: Miro Opiate, my legacy founder.
Sometimes I get inspired about a song and named a sim with them.
Like Jacqueline Matineé (a sim that I adore so much) I named her because I was listening Franz Ferdinand.
Other times I just copy the names from videogames or books.
Example: Toxa Classico (from Legend of Kartia; videogame), Alhana Starbreeze (from Dragonlance; book) and Misery Chastain (from Misery; book and movie).

Here's my Landgraab Legacy so far... I'm going with the ABC Legacy too.
Generation 1: Adele & Malcolm Landgraab
Generation 2: Briseis, Bernice, Briony, Bailey, Bram (boy), Bella
Generation 3: Cedric (son of Briseis), Cody (son of Bernice), Caitlyn (daughter of Briony), Casper (son of Bella)
What is so surprising about this legacy is that nearly all of Malcolm's kids were... not so pretty, and yet they had beautiful children! Briony, for example, barely had a face. Caitlyn is adorable. Bernice was ok, but her husband had the worst maxi face template.... Surprise!! SUPER cute Cody! :D I can't wait to see the rest of them!

Uh, my names tend to be semi-generic, because I usually write them down on a sheet I have and go off that.
First names I really like are: Ian, Oliver, Noah, Jack, Tyler, Max, Sophie, Rae, Stef, Brie, Alexia, and Emma. Last names I'm really bad at and usually look for company names (since they usually have a founder's last name in it) on whatever I have close to me at the moment. :P

Kitson is the big family I have right now. Half the people in my neighborhood are Kitsons. There are others, like Pederson, Landgrabb IV (someone married him from the Kitson family.)
Right now there's too many people to put down their first names, but I'll put down a few:
Seán and Kaylynn (starters of the Family)
Owen and Scott were the sons.
Alex, Lucy, Angela, Adam, Ciarán, and loads more, Owen had a lot of kids. There is another Generation.. but there are too many to name.

It's pointless, but I really wish sims could have middle names.
I don't really care about male names, for some reason, so they usually end up being James or Matt or something equally boring. My favourites in my custom hood are:
Alice (Alice Maria is a nice combo)
Lenora
Estella
Maura
Dorothea
Noelle
Flora
Olivia
Nanette
So basically, I love old lady names.
