There's already a thread on this:
http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=334968

And someone did beat you on that thread, when they used to have 25 GB (not a typo).

As for me, I have 1.77 GB and 5,763 files, not counting what I've pulled out for the 50/50 tango. I'll probably just delete the whole folder and redownload what I actually use.

776 MB, 2,078 files.

I only download bodyshop items. Hair, skintones, makeup, clothes, etc. With 8 EPs there are a LOT of items, so much so that I don't feel like DLing any extra.

And I don't want my game to take forever to load :X

xemptybrkneyesx
8th Jul 2009, 6:36 AM
I have all EPs and the loading times on my computer are actually fairly fast...I only bought my computer in December, so that could be why, too.

I'm already watching what I download, I'll get to the download tab and think hmm...Do I really need this? or Will I ever use these?

I don't actually have a lot...

193 MB objects/mods
147 MB genetics

I try to keep it low, because I have a problem where I download things that I never ever use...so I always think about downloading CC as though I were buying it, when i'm really not.

I was quite surprised I didn't have more when I looked back at my downloads- I've got 1.25 gb. I'm sure it was more the first time I started playing and I pretty much downloaded everything. I mainly download hair, skintones, and other body shop stuff now.

I'm currently in the process of cleaning up my downloads, getting rid of the stuff I don't like anymore. I have a tendency to download A LOT, and then a few days later I realize I don't like the stuff I downloaded anymore. I don't know what I have the most of, I'd say it's equally split between female hair, clothes, and makeup. And there's TONS of it.

I currently have 1.66 gb of CC, which is very good for me, although it will inevitibly get much bigger. I'm a chronic downloader!

I used to have around 6-7 gb worth of CC before I deleted my entire downloads folder.

I'm much more on top of my downloads now, though. Before, I used to download anything and everything on a "I MIGHT need it" or a "I'll never use it, but it's NICE!!" policy and ended up with a huge downloads folder where I only actually used about 20-30% of what I had - everything else was themed items I never needed, or items I thought looked good, but I didn't like in-game.

I just start downloading furniture and misc. build mode objects! I'm excited! But I feel bad, but in a good way lol. I promised myself ONLY to stick to bodyshop items but...I CAN'T ANYMORE! hahaha.

Now I'm at 1.32 gigs, 5,546 files, 83 folders.

My game is running pretty good. The loading screen is really weird with CC, it stops for like a good 5 minutes just frozen at the "THE SIMS 2" blue loading screen. Then it just starts reticulating splines and 10 seconds later it's all loaded. Weird.

Holy cow! You all must have REALLLLLLLLLLY good computers (this thread was created two years ago). My computer's a 3GB Vista, if I were to pile on the 2GB+ CC most of you have here... Well, maybe it's not such a secret why you all build such giant (nice, though) houses!

I think I have the lowest out of everyone here, actually. It says "18 MB" and "33 files" (it would of been even less, if I didn't have recolors and multiple files due to meshes for items to work).

I totally depleted my CC folders, and I have new numbers.

Saved Sims - 12.9 MB (all of which is makeup, piercings, and eye colors)

Downloads - 12.2 MB (a few cars, some custom windows, crib recolors.)

I've been on a huge downloading spree in the past week. My Downloads folder used to be at 180mb/2000 files, and now it's 290mb/2700 files. It needs to go on a diet.

It seems like my number of files is high compared to their size. I do have about 400 hacks, though XD And nothing gets out of my testing folder until it's been thoroughly picked apart and reassembled in SimPE and Compressorised :D

4 GB of CC alone, about 90 percent from MTS :D
And I've only been playing TS2 for about three months now O.o
I have no default cars anymore (Thank Gosh!), but I've only had a few overrides so far (phew!)

I hoard everything. If it's downloadable, I click it. Works for me! Anyway, you'll never know when a, uhm... Hot Air Balloon might come in handy. :jest:

GeneralOperationsDirector: Not meaning to go off topic, but do you have Windows Vista? If so, how does your game run? Just wondering 'cuz I have roughly the same amount of CC and since I switched computers and have Vista now, I have yet to actually be able to play my game due to everything that can go wrong going wrong...of course, I just had my motherboard go belly up too, so that may have been the problem (computer is less than a year old so I'm a little miffed).

After posting my CC totals, *then* reading the rest of this thread, I decided to time the loading of my game last night, with the following results:
From Progress Bar appears to Progress Bar starts moving: about 6 minutes.
Duration of Progress Bar: about 4 minutes.
Time from icon click to Custom Content dialog: about 12 minutes.
Time from icon click to playable family: about 14 minutes.
All times are approximate, measured with a Grandfather Clock that stands conveniently nearby.

I'm having to use my hubby's computer to get on forums (me and hubby's computer have "issues", so this is a situation that both me and the computer hope is short-lived ), but my motherboard should be back in a week or so...let's hope that fixes things. My computer is less than a year old, so it runs my other games pretty well and I've been pretty pleased with Vista (but I've read some negative things about it and was wondering if there might be a compatibility issue)... Yeah, and it`s shorter than it would have been were I still playing on my old [now-dead] computer, though I`m not sure if it is shorter than it WAS when I was playing on that computer, as I`ve continued to add CC since recovering my Sims 2 data from the old computer`s hard drive [which is still alive and well in a USB external case]. I had to go a MONTH without Sims *2* after it died. I played lots of Sims *1* on an even older computer that month. ;)

Ya know what? I`m *still* adding CC to my game, though not nearly as fast as I used to. :D ...and I occasionaly run a dup-scan on my game-data folder to weed out extraneous files, and intend to eventually upgrade the dup-scanner into something smarter that will also find [and eventually manage] conflicting mods. I`d also like to add code to scan for *unused* content, too.

:D I've been pretty happy with Vista all in all...I play WOW as well and it ran waaaay better than on my old computer, and my load times with The Sims 2 isn't bad at all, even with all of the CC I have. I have 4 GB RAM, which is about all a system like mine will recognize (Vista 64 bit), 600 GB of disk space and I either have the same video card you do or the 9800 (I'll have to look). I was worried that having as much CC as I have would affect how my game would run, but if someone who has 10 GB of CC can still play their game, the rest of us should be good to go! :Pint:

Before I uninstall them my Sims 2 folder used to have all Ep's and Stuff Packs with 13GB custom content (yes, I'm addicted to downloading), all organized in folders and sub-folders. I just reinstalled about four or five days ago and am now working on redowloading stuffs, I have almost nothing compared to before.

My downloads folder is 765 MB and contains 1,796 files

Breakdown:
Clothing: 116 MB, 432 files
Default Replacements: 56.1 MB, 323 files
Eyes: 7.34 MB, 195 files
Facial Hair: 6.54 MB, 70 files
Hair: 237 MB, 434 files
Makeup: 36 MB, 233 files
Mods: 66.4 KB, 6 files
Objects: 255 KB, 4 files
Skintones: 304 MB, 99 files

I've been downloading way more skintones, eyes, and makeup than I used to. I think I only used to have default replacements, now I have tons of all of them, heh

I have nowhere near as much hair as I used to, and not enough clothes yet either.

I sense a downloading spree coming on... heheh. I need more clothes, badly, I only downloaded a few dresses from All About Style and a bunch of plainish but useful stuff by HystericalParoxysm and fanseelamb.

I'm really think of purging all my hair, I'm becoming convinced that my ill-advised, high-poly paysite (booty'd) hair is impacting my game performance. It's so time-consuming to try to remove them by hand one at a time, and I'm not a terribly organized downloader.

Has anyone else ever done this and started over with custom hairs?

What I've started doing is keeping a back up file of my CC and categorizing different types of CC. My hair file has individual files in it for each hairstyle and its recolors and I copy a picture of the style into the folder so that I know which it is. If I need to remove one, I find it in my back up file and check out the file names, find them in my downloads folder and delete them. Like you, I'm not necessarily the most organized downloader in the world, but this method really helps me.

just 141 MB. Most of that space is taken up by bedding. (If my sims are going to have the same bed-frames, then they are going to have different sheets!)

I have seperate folder for all CC, the hair folder is filled with subfolders for different hair-creators. Since I'm very good about remembering who made which hair, I just need to go in there...and poof. It's gone.

I start over with custom hairs often, especially when I download something...and then it doesn't look as good as I thought it would. Or if I feel that my game is getting spammed up with hair.

But I always backup my CC folder before I do any mass-pruning.

I copied all my stuff into a separate folder ready to back it all up onto CD and the total volume is just over half a GB, including the stuff I made myself.

I also used to have lots of cc - something around 3GB - but then I unmercifully deleted most of it. Now I have about 500MB of stuff and I'm happy with it.

In the user account that I use most often, there's about 2GB and the game takes about 5 minutes or so to load, which doesn't bother me because I just do something else while it's loading. If I add up all the stuff I have across all the user accounts that I use to play the game, though, there's at least twice that. I know my "period" stuff is fairly large. But I never use all of it at once. That's why I separated it among four or five user accounts, so that if I want to play my Tudor-period 'hood, I don't have to load all the other stuff, too.

I have 4 saved games now, each has 3-4Gb of different CC in their Downloads folders.... I'm working slowly but steady on making an archive kind of thing, to store all my CC on a hard drive, all sub-foldered and with pictures. When I combine the CC from all four games plus tons of CC I never used in-game yet, there will be no less than 20gigs.. Insanity!

I have nearly 2G of custom content. I started out with getting floors and walls because nothing in the game looked good. Then it was matching furniture, then clothes for my females. After getting Nightlife, I was obsessed with getting Classic cars. Now I love collecting garden stuff and mods. Although I should probably spend time downloading clothing for my males, since they all dress alike and it drives me crazy, I often end up finding more clothes for my females when I go looking for male clothes.

I have downloading binges every couple of days. Sometimes I download until the wee hours and am too exhausted to install anything. But I still try not to install it all at once, usually try to break it into three or four batches at a time. That way I can play and test between batches. Other days I drink a lot of coffee and install batches between "naps". Thanks to the sims, I rarely actually sleep.

I don't have a lot because I'm very picky about what I download and what I think I'll use in my game. (Plus at the moment my computer badly needs a RAM upgrade among other parts as it's over 5 years old and I do have quite a bit of music on it as well as TS2 + 3 expansions and 2 stuff packs.)

I have 744 files totaling up to 166MB. I have a blend of everything. Recently just started downloading different hair styles and skintones because I was bored with what little I did have. That's where I racked up a majority of MB.

I've got an addiction recently to downloading and spend most of time searching through things thinking "Hmm, I would use that *clicks download*" but haven't actually played the game in awhile.

I try to keep mine around 4,000 files or less, and I just went through and deleted a bunch of stuff that either didn't work as advertised or hadn't ever been used. I also deleted a bunch of specific recolors out of download packages that come with tons and tons and tons of recolors. @ poster above: Compressorizer (http://forum.jfade.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=170). Seriously. Four files like that should be 8.98 MB at worst, not GB.

I'd say that my game is "drowned" in CC, but seeing some of your guys' file counts, that would be an exaggeration.

~1.15 GB / ~3,000 files. Minus stuff I'm working on that's stored in my download directory but does nothing for my game (probably a solid 50MB), it's around 1.1GB. Since I only started playing TS2 around two or three months ago, I'd guess that's about par. :P

I just clicked on the link I posted, and it took me to the site. They seem to be up, as far as I can tell. It looks like I might have to upgrade MY Python installation. :) It seems that 2.6.2 is no longer available. 2.6.4 (http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.6.4/) seems the most likely to work with the "binaries" available in the thread I linked you to. You might prefer to discuss this further there.

I really have no idea. I have tons, mainly clothes because I didn't want them all to look like thugs and tramps.

Recently I started making subfolders to store everything in -- I had it all in Downloads (!!) before that. It makes the program run more smoothly when you subfolder, I think. Sadly some of the older files don't have identifiable names, so I don't know who made them or what kind of object they are. For recent downloads I'll subfolder them by type and creator, such as Hair > Nouk or Clothing > HystericalParoxysm.

But I might wanna subfolder like,

Or something.
Most of them are either clothes, or makeup!
I wanna keep my sims stylish.

I feel so very much lighter now! Over this past weekend I did a huge CC purge. I kept all of my hacks and hacked objects, but got rid of all my custom objects except for recolors of Maxis objects, most of the clothes and hairstyles I had but never use, a boatload of custom walls, carpets, etc. that I never use, and a bunch of other crap. All in all, I went from almost 5GB of CC to...about 650MB. And I'm loving it! Whee!

I'll probably just delete the whole folder and redownload what I actually use.

Yeah, that's the right idea. I use to download lots of stuff because it looked cool but when will I ever use a death-ray gun, purple spiked hair or bright yellow eyes with red irises? It's just wasting disk space and making my game load sloooooowly.

720mb, and 2k files. D8 Most of it's hair and clothes for teen males and game mods. I've been trying to reduce the size, but haven't figured out the best way to do that yet. I can't remember which items can go into subfolders either. :C

For clothes and hair, if you don't have screenshots along with the files to know what is what, the easiest way is to delete them from inside the game or bodyshop (whichever takes less time to load for you). Be cruel, delete everything you never use. Ask yourself if you're really really ever gonna use every single one of those hairs and clothes, or if you're just hoarding them because they're "so pretty :lovestruc ". It may be pretty, but if it's just making your game load sloooow to get no use, it's not worth keeping.

For hacks, first use Clean Installer to find any stray ones hiding outside your main hacks folder. Run the Conflict Detector to weed out stuff that may be giving you trouble without you even knowing. Then it's the boring but necessary part. You should go through each one of them (really, each one) and read the RTFM/readme to remember exactly what does each one do. If you don't have the rtfm/readme for all the hacks, google them - if a hack can't be found on google, it's likely old/outdated and probably not safe to keep in your game, zap it. Then ask yourself again if you really really can't do without this or that hack. A lot of hacks we download sound like a great idea in theory, but we end up never actually using it, or it just doesn't make sense with our play style. (eg. I had a bunch of zombie this bigfoot that hacks installed for a while, until one hack cleaning day I realized I never ever play zombies or bigfoots, so wtf was I even keeping those mods for?)

If you really wanna cut down, you just can't allow yourself to get all mellow as you do this. If you start going "but I could use this some day!", you won't actually clean out anything. (and you'll continue hoarding useless stuff - "some day" is code for "this hair is so pretty/this hack is so cool, but I'm never gonna use it" ;) )

17th Mar 2010, 12:17 PM
Yeah, a lot of the hair recolors I won't be using anytime soon (even though they do fit my theme of feminine males very well), so a lot of those are out. My problems usually come from downloading a mesh and the original recolors file and ending up with a million colors. D8

For hacks, most of them are awesomemods, and a very few of them are from here. I will have to go see which ones I never use anymore. D8 But usually I'm pretty good about not downloading what I don't use.

Clothes and Hair are my main weakness, I don't like my sims to wear the same things at the same time, and I always try to avoid them having the same hair styles/colors at the same time. This OCD-ness cost my computer only 1.18 gig with 3,633 files. Although, I ordered Seasons and will be shopping around for outerwear in the next few weeks, which will increase it a hundred or so. >.<

My family does that in RL - my father calls the "Mass Negative Approach".

Mass Positive = Bad. You bring home something new, but get rid of nothing.
Mass Neutral = Better. You bring home something new, get rid of one old thing.
Mass Negative = Best. You bring home something new, get rid of two or more old things.

927 MB, which actually isn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Lately whenever I've downloaded clothing (which I have the most of by far) I've tried to delete something I already have so I don't keep piling everything up.

I have almost 3GB of downloads - almost 9000 files and 289 folders (I'm a folders freak, I hate not knowing what's in my downloads and being able to find stuff easily).

I realise this is increasing, only a month ago it was about 5,000 files, so now I'm getting into the habit of deleting stuff I rarely use or don't like at the same time as I put new stuff in.

Unfortuntaely I messed up a bit this afternoon in all my eagerness to clear out a lot of texture files. I went back into a few builds (apartments) and many of the floor and wall textures had disappeared. this was pretty annoying actually as it meant I had to move all the tenants out of the apartments before I could redecorate. I know there's a cheat where you can do it whilst tenants are still there but I didn't want to tempt fate and am doing it the long way - doing a bit of remodelling of the builds while I'm at it.

I backed up my file today and it said I had a little over 10,000 Items. This includes most of the content of about four dead sites that I down loaded before they disappeared. I am at about 3.5 Gb. This may seem a little small but I have learned not to download full Sims, etc. for a piece of c.c. they may have but instead go and hunt it down myself. I find that this saves a great deal of time on loading. Folder wise, I have quite a few, I have learned to subcategorize my downloads, I can usually find any particular piece very quickly when I need to.

I had attempted to keep it organized, but I have deleted my whole CC junk about 3 times, so this is a lot less then what I've had in the past.

Currently I'm sitting at 489 MB.

15 folders, 1773 files. (not including the files in the folders too lazy to count)

I'm surprised at the amount some people have been at in the past. I used to go on CC-downloading sprees. But whenever i clear out, I re-download all of Adele's stoof because I use her furniture in every single house I get. Then I used to download just about every hairstyle. But there's not that many good hairstyles for men. I don't like the whole anime thing on Sims, I lean towards realistic stuff.

I think it's hard to remove CC once you've used it as it's hard to know in which household you've used which CC. And when you remove that CC then you can be in trouble with your game so I really don't remove anything.

Now that I've downloaded enough stuff so that I don't have to be frustrated with a lack of options, especially when building lots or clothing my sims, my Download folder has grown to 7.1 GB.

I expect it to grow a little more because I'm still hunting for neighborhood decorations. And I'm always finding a lot of good stuff from GOS' monthly themes and contests. But, I think I will start to worry a bit when it gets to 10 GB and takes more than 10 minutes to load. Right now, it only takes about 5 minutes to get to the neighborhood screen. And I dump all the cache files every time I load the game.

I haven't considered checking my saved sims folder. I probably should. Since I learned how to recolor clothes in bodyshop, a couple weeks ago, I've been recoloring my favorite outfits like a fiend.

199 mbs. I like most of the maxis stuff so it's mostly mods and a few houses and stuff. I don't have any clothes or hair. I used to have about 3gbs but I like my game running fast, and most of all I like my sims to look like sims! I don't really care for the absolutely perfect skin and hair that make them look real. I'm lucky to have enough eps that I don't have to worry about sims having the same hairstyle or whatever too.

About 100 MB of custom content. Mostly houses and hairs, and a bit of eyes, skin and cloths.

9,348 files in 2,600 folders or 3.95 GB. I keep my downloads well organized in folders so I can find any given download in under a minute, which is considerably faster than my computer can find it. :) In it is the bulk of the former Curvalicious site or 389 files as well as much of the former Simcastics Design site.

Nothing but about 30 celebrities and fictional characters. Actually I only installed one of them for now, which is Kathy Griffon. The rest I'm uncertain of because they pointed to other required material that I also had to download. I'm paranoid that, after all that downloading and reading and checking, some of them still will not look exactly as they did on their description page.

What I really hate is when the author is so vague about which download is required: 'Go to x site and get the one on page 3, fourth one down.' Just tell me the name of the file, please.

I totally agree, it's just like can you link it?
I often ignore downloads like that if I'm honest haha, I don't want to have to trawl around through pages not knowing exactly what I'm looking for.

Downloads Folder size: 3.33 MB
Saved Sims folder size: 1.44 MB
Keeps my game running fast. :D
The only mods I have are a Child's Play mod to get rid of WooHoo and InSIM (What would I do if they couldn't reproduce?! Well, there's always adoption... Nah, I'll stick with my magic microwave oven)
