Playing music in Tribal mode?

I can't seem to be able to play music for a tribe im wishing to ally with in tribal mode. I bring my cheiftan my two digerdoo players and two horn players to the tribe, use the cheiftan to socialize with the other chieftan and start a concert but as soon as the tribe m wishing to make allies with starts making song requests im not sure what to do. I tried selecting a player and clicking on their "play music" button but they wont respond

Make sure to select all the instrument players instead of just one.

You need to select your chieftan along with the musicians, he needs to "conduct" the music. As the music plays, you will see thought bubbles form over the rival tribes heads. The instrument in the bubbles should play a solo. To play the solo, click on it in the social tray. If you don't have the insturment they want to hear, you won't get as high a score. It's usually best to have all three types. If you are playing an agressive war-like game, don't bother with the music buildings. If you are playing a more diplomatic/social game it's best to try for all three.
