LyricLee
13th Jan 2006, 7:12 AM
Welcome to week 1 of the official home make over.
This week's room to decorate is the bedroom.
The theme is Asian. When you're in your bedroom, the last thing you want to think of is chaos and noise and stress. Your bedroom is your sancuary.
You are at peace. Decorate your bedroom with objects that give you peace. Simple, yet sleek. Reds, blacks, and creams. Make your bedroom your zen haven. And please stay true to a realistic Asian feel.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a302/LyricLee2/BedroomContest.jpg

This round will end on 1/20 at midnight Eastern Time

Pics required

2 ground shots of your room- ONLY 2 showing the decoration you've put in.
Pick your best two photos for this (keep in mind you will want to take these photos with the walls up so get tricky with your camera angles.
The Tab button will help you get closer and angle the camera better)
1 Aerial shot of the room just like the entry rounds but closer to show placement of objects and to ensure we've all decorated the right rooms.
Remember- you may change the style of the windows and doors but do not change the placement of the windows and doors.
Anyone who does not obey the rules will be cut.
Thats a total of THREE pics ONLY

THE RULES

1) You must stick to the layout as presented in the screenshots. Please follow those building instructions CAREFULLY.

4) Foundations may not be altered.
5) The use of “Half Walls” is allowed, but the “Half Walls” may not replace existing walls. They may only be added in as new walls in existing rooms.
6) Use of custom content is allowed and encouraged Whenever possible, please leave a note on your post if you've used alot of content from one site in particular. If you see something that someone has used in a lot and wish to download that content yourself do NOT post here- PM the member and ask privately.

My pics for the second round:bedroom "Modern India" (This was a bit difficult...Im not a great fan of Asian (japaneese/chinese ) styles, but since India is considered Asian, and I know a lot more about Indian style, I made this one. ) This room is very "simple" and makes you focus more on your inner life, cause the colours are not that exiting (less demanding)

I ventured away from the typical Chinesse Chippendale with mine. The mood is dark but is peaceful and serene. The decoration is minimual and constrained. I guess you could call it oriental country. Walls, floor, bedcovering, window recolors, and locker "closets" by me. Futon "floorbed" available at MTS2, plant by the bed is from tsr(dincer), plant by the door from Parsimonius . The curtains are my recolors of bobenglish's weirdo room cutains

Everyone has made such beautiful rooms. I can't wait to see what else people come up with :)

Okay, so I was trying to go for a sort of Indo-Chinese feel, don't know if I acheived it, you can be the judge of that :D

Oh, and btw, I feel silly for not explaining earlier, the lack of wardrobe is due to the under-bed storage the platform bed provides.
i wanted to keep the furniture to a minimum, reduce the clutter, so the wardrobe seemed redundant.

I based this room around the bedspread (which sadly I don't know from where) and made it in light woods and green.
I went through 3 versions of the bed room and I think this the best one. The chair (you can't really see it in the pictures) is from TSR, I think the table is, too. I don't know about the other things.

It took me a long time to get any kind of inspiration for this room. But I finally did and I kinda like how it turned out. I always like to make my rooms look as real as I can but this time I had a little more fun with it (hence the waterfall) but I also wanted to create a warm peaceful room. So I have created a dressing corner and sitting area. A kind of shrine and the waterfall is just for relaxation. Hope you like it.

The room is painted a soothing sage green color featuring deep mahagoney wood furniture. Natural bamboo shrouds the corners of the room nearest the bed, and an ornately detailed screen adds a finishing touch.

This room features a smattering of custom content...if you would like to know any specifics, please PM me, and I will try to find it for you. Unfortunately, many people do not the label the work as their's so it can sometimes be impossible to trace its origins. With that being said, good luck to everyone!

P.S : Again, I do not know why the pictures are coming out smaller, the settings are set to large, etc. and I am using TinyPic. I should also mention that it was difficult getting the photos to show up in the storytelling folder - the aerial one showed up right away but the others I had to retake several times to get them to show (?)

Here is my version of an Asian Bedroom. Instead of going with the red, I chose blues, greens and tans. I thought that it was more soothing and serene.

I am a downloadaholic, so there is custom content from many sources. Aussie Top-Enders is where I got the bed frame and armoire. I got the pillows and sake set from Sims2Play. The incense burner came from Around the Sims 2. I think I remember that the bedding came from Heleane. The walls are by Enayla.

Hope you like it!

Well... this was difficult for me. In the UK asian isnt specifically chinese/japanese but more indian/packistan influences. And the chinese/japanese styling isnt really red/black/cream more orange/red/white but I did what I thought was most true to the theme, while keeping what I think I would like in an asian bedroom. I had to do a bit of research, lol. Also the windows shown are two windows with a side missing, when you put them together they make one big window...

I can't believe how gorgeous everyone's rooms are, mine pales in comparison, but here it is anyway.
I'm still trying to figure out where all my custom content came from. Much of it is from MTS2 and TSR. The bed frame and table at the end of the bed are from Meshkiste (http://www.meshkiste.de/). Most of the art came from Sims 2 Play (http://sims-2.gameslife.ru/)

Thanks for the opportunity this contest has provided. I've had a lot of fun doing this and until now have never built houses just used pre-existing ones. I may have to try doing some of my own building now.

I took a little bit of time on this design, mainly because I wasn't sure what style to do. So I decided, why stick to one theme, and put in elements of different asian cultures? It's a balanced blend of Tibetan, Mongolian, and Mandarin, with a heavy dose of Northern Kyoto, classy but modern....

Ok, so I'm no Martha Stewart.... but hopefully my design will provide at least 30 seconds of amusement.

Every last bit of content is custom. It came mainly from MTS2, although I pulled from Around The Sims 2 (http://www.aroundthesims2.com/) and Sims 2 Play (http://sims-2.gameslife.ru/).

And the best part of my room??? Everything is useable in game! No cluttered pathways or unusable objects. I think it's neat.

Enjoy.

OK, I'm not too good with the old picture taking, but I've done my best. I feel a bit of a fraud actually putting in my measly offering with all these other fantastic rooms but nevermind

Thanks to Sims2Play for the bamboo in vase, sake set and bamboo curtains

Aussie Topenders for the Asian bed and furniture recolours

Around The Sims 2 for the incense

Mango Sims for the branch in the vase

and sorry I can't remember which site I got the windchime from, I think it may have been Around the Sims 2

Bedding is from Mod the Sims 2

This started out as a totaly black and white room, and I kept adding bits of red, then added a touch of green to balance it. It is actually loosely based on one of my previous bedrooms...or at least what I was trying to get it to look like.

I don't think there is a single peice of unmodded content in there, and i'm not sure where I got it all, but if there is something you want to know about, just message me and I will do my best to track it down for you.

Okay, here's mine. The bed, bedspread, endtables, dresser, walls and the can-chairs, I created for this contest. The table lamps and bowls between the can-chairs can be found at MTS2. It was a lot of fun. Good luck to eveyone.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y179/Ellatrue/Sims/deco12.jpg

I combined Japanese and Chinese styles and something of an "updated" look that should still be remniscent of traditional designs- plastic screens instead of paper, etc. I think of it as the "bamboo room," for obvious reasons.

Most of the content is from MTS2 and TSR (like the walls), cushions from Sims2Play

My romantic bathroom. Warm colours and a feeling of luxury for sims...I like my bathroom to be free of clutter, and just make room for the people in it. So theres even some room for slow-dancing. The colours make your skin glow in a warmer tone, the bathtub is small, but I think its very "romantic" to squeeze two bodies into a small tub. At least you have to love each a lot other to appreciate it :) (I guess this is the "bathroom of my dreams")

My husband and I spend many hours together in our jacuzzi. I have a big round tub for my Sims, but it still only holds one, so I choose the move objects cheat and put in a hot tub. Let's face it, everyone wants to just soak in that hot water and let the jets lull them. I couldn't resist the Greco-Roman bath house theme. I hope you enjoy this white marble ruins and the decadence implied. (male sculpture ...made by Oberkorn "broken torso")

This time I used very little of my own stuff. All thats mine is the walls and floor. To the best of my knowledge with the exception of the radiator (mts2) everything is from SunAire Sims or maxis original. My theme kind of stuck with the theme started in the bedroom, it looks slightly asian and the color scheme stayed simular but is much brighter for the bath. i couldn't help it I saw Sunaires work and had to go with it.

I decided to make the bathroom red, white, and black, typical romantic colors. I uses alot of roses and candles. I put a fountain from Sim Connection (pay) and put a water fall over it, I think it makes a lovely effect. One candle is from Sunair Sims (the one with the single candle) the rest are from MtS2. The wallpaper if from www.rantravefarm.com/sims2/ by Christine... although I have never been there so I gotten it from somewhere else. The tub is from MtS2.

Ok so my thought going into this room was more of a spa getaway weekend. I think it came out great. There is a two person custom shower. His and hers sinks, with separate areas for storage. A bit of a tropical feel with the plants but it also goes towards the warm feeling in the room. The toilet area has a wall up for a little privacy but overall I think the bath is very open and relaxing. You could cuddle with you honey in a nice bubble bath or take a comforting shower with plenty of room and multiple shower heads.

Perhaps my view of romance is a bit jaded, but I personally love the feel of a secluded grove in the midst of lush vegitation... your only neighbors a babbling brooke and the cool evening breeze.

Ok, so I'm no Don Juan... but, here's my entry. I know for a fact the walls, windows, & floors came from the Midsimmer Night's Dream package by Lethe_S. As for the rest of it, here & there... mostly from MTS 2. My collection of Sims2 custom sites has grown since the Asian room round.

So, there it is... excellent rooms from everyone, by the way. One common theme, 30 different interpretations.... facinating.

A straight-shot of the "Inner Sanctum", as I like to call it.

Wow, once again, everyone has such gorgeous rooms. This is going to be a tough round :)

Okay, so here's my entry for round two.

A simple explanation for the color scheme is that red is the color of passion, and when paired with white these colors are a symbol of unity - perfect for romance!
I also wanted a room not overly complex, as I find a simple place more relaxing and therefore more romantic.

Wow, 10 minutes left and I actually figured out what to do. The whole thing puzzled me. The question, what is romantic? Is it the look of a room, or what you do that makes something romantic? It might not look as good as everyone elses, but I think some times even simple can be romantic. If ya are curious about the objects, page me and I'll find where I got them for you.

Again I must say you all did incredible jobs! The voting is getting HARD guys and girls lol. But we had to cut down to the top 20. Thank you everyone whos participated. You all did great! Now on with round 3!!! Please read the rules carefully- some things have changed this round

Week Three- Luxurious Living
Step back in time for this round. We want to see your beautiful Victorian living rooms. Nice earth tones will compliment these rooms beautifully. Try to capture a realistic Victorian Feel.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a302/LyricLee2/3LivingRoom.jpg

This round will end Next Friday February 3rd at Midnight - Thats Midnight on Friday going into Saturday and on EST (Im on the east coast of the united states)
Hope that clears any confusion lol.

Pics required

THIS ROUND ONLY- Due to the LARGE ammount of space we have for this room you will be allowed 4 ground pics of your room plus the one aerial shot to show placement- So this is a total of FIVE photos this round.
(keep in mind you will want to take these photos with the walls up so get tricky with your camera angles.
The Tab button will help you get closer and angle the camera better)

Remember- you may change the style of the windows and doors but do not change the placement of the windows and doors.

ADDITIONAL CHANGES: Due to the size of this room- you may use some of your space to create a den type area if you wish- you can include a computer or television in your room- but do not use an ultra modern high tech tv. Just a simple basic piece of electronic for functionality- This is the only non- victorian item you can use here without it taking away from the theme of the room. I know this room is large and I want you all to be creative with the space youve been given

THE RULES

1) You must stick to the layout as presented in the screenshots. Please follow those building instructions CAREFULLY.
2) Walls may NOT be moved or altered.
3) Windows and Doors may NOT be moved from their positions. (But they can be replaced with custom doors or windows of the same size).
7) Use of cheats is allowed. (angled furniture, moveobjects on etc..)
8) Please keep your photos to a maximum of 600x450. (standard in game screenshot size for most users) And only provide the asked for ammount of photos.
9) Please keep chatter in this thread to a minimum. Any questions about this round or comments belong in the original entry thread- Lets keep this thread strictly to entries only.
10) No reserving spaces

This Living room has victorian flare. With a purple/mauve and beige colour palet, this room is made for those antique collectors. This living room contains 3 main areas :
1)the sitting area infront of the fireplace,
2)the den which includes a tv and,
3)the library nook, perfect for those rainy days.

There is also a nice little foyer.

**This is my entry so far. I am most likely to change some thing so keep on looking for changes!**

The room is quite busy, as the Victorians liked so much. I tried to keep the diningarea, computerarea, and the tvcorner seperate from the rest of the livingroom with the screens.

Wall and Floor are made by Zita from Aussietopenders (http://aussietopenders-sims2.com/). Furniture comes from Aussietopenders, Marinasims, Tarox, Meshkiste, Sims2Ellis, Moonsims and MTS2.

EDIT: I changed the bathroomdoor and two of the pictures.

wow, you guys :)
this was another thoughie, but one huge downloading spree later:
my entry!

It was my idea to make a room for the up-and-coming middle-class in the late victorian era.
As the main room in this small house, the living room has many functions: dining area, entertaining guests or finding some peace and quiet to study and write.
I chose late victorian (1890's) so I could add some Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau touches. True to the era, there's no overtly modern appliances.

Credit goes to Around the Sims (plant), Avalon (recolors), Atelier Quebec (wall), Aussietopenders (wine, mirror, recolors), Avenida (lamps), Kiri's Simthing (doors, screen mesh), Parsimonious (plant, piano colour), Reflex Sims (orchid), Bienchen (book, rose), DH Sims (most of the furniture). And at MTS2: Echo (rugs), Salome (desk), Boblishman (plant, clock, apples), Justmoi (paintings), Grand Trianon Set (painting), Simnuts (chair), me :) (grammophone, books, scroll and feather, old globe). I couldn't find where the others came from.

So heres my Victorian livingroom.I really love this theme! (I even watched the movie "From ****" with Johnny Depp again, for inspiration. :) ) My husband pointed out for me, they didnt have vacuum-cleaners, so with all the curtains and carpets they had, it must have been hard to be allergic to dust during this era... Description for my room - "Informal, eclectic and without modern technology". (The rather tasteless Maxis-carpet finally found its place.) -Tables from "Aussie topenders", some deco from MTS2,( Lethe´s- and others),lamps "Avenida", a lot of stuff I dont know where I found...sorry

Lavish & luxurious, this room whisks you away to a world of mystery, intrigue, and dark beauty. A ravishing time when refined gentlemen and ladies indulged themselves with art, wine, and song. A time when....

OK, so I'm no Robin Leach. But, here's my entry. Hope ya like it... I did a little on-site research for this one. Took a little trip around the region to visit historic sites, namely the Vaile Mansion in Independence, MO. Check it out here. (http://www.vailemansion.org/) This house is gorgeous.

Custom content from MarinaSims, ReflexSims, Sims Interior Design 2, DH-Victorian, Zita, Meshkiste, Fat D's Design Kit, Grand Trianon, Lethe_S, MangoSims, Cathy's Antique/Victorian Sets, Aussietopenders, and many others. Hope you enjoy my submission... I can't say that I'm happy with the results, as Victorian design is not one of my strongsuits. But, thanks to the members of the sims2 community, I was able to track down some really great content. Thanks again!

Everything is candle lit, no bit of electricity to this room.

**UPDATE** Did a little bit of revision, and upped new & bigger pics. Enjoy!

So I kinda wanted this room to flow with the rest of the house, and victorian is REALLY not my style so this round was extremely hars for me. Anyway here goes.

In the overhead view you can see the room has been broken into three very distinct sections, in the tp left you can see the tea area or small dining area. The top right is the study area and the rest is sitting or a good place to entertain company.

Flower power! :hippy:
This room is all about peace, love and chocolate pudding.
I took the whole 'retro' thing as an excuse to make the brightest, loudest, most colour-clashing room I could squeeze out of my downloads folder.
It's the exact opposite of what I would normally make, but it makes me feel groovy.
Warning: long exposure to the room might lead to epilepsy, sore eyes, headache and/or fits of giggling.
Yeah baby!

Here's my entry. I love making gardens, so i hoped to get to this round :). I devided the back garden in three different area's. The left side is the pool area, the middle section is for relaxion on long and hot summer evenings, and the right side is a nice cottagy style garden with lots of flowers and trees. Great for sims who love birds and butterflies.

Top view.

Ok, everyone, here is my entry. I think I went a little over the top, but the description did say to create a "Garden fit for the Gods!"

In honor of St. Valentine' s Day tomorrow, I created the "Garden of Aphrodite,"
or at least the garden in her Hollywood pad, where she hangs out in human form and plays the diva when she tires of the politics of Mt. Olympus.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e1/MistressUseless/MST2%20Contest/TopDown1.jpg
As you can see above, the yard of this otherwise unassuming home is quite spacious. The entry to the right of the front door leads you into a cool, relaxing courtyard, with a lovely wall fountain. To the right, Aphrodite's favorite flower is showcased in the award winning rose garden, seen below.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e1/MistressUseless/MST2%20Contest/ThroughRoseGarden.jpg

Exiting the courtyard towards the pool area, your attention is caught by the path leading up the hill. The exquisite marble columns and lovely fountains frame statues of Aphrodite and priceless ruins from antiquity.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e1/MistressUseless/MST2%20Contest/TempleRuins.jpg

Returning back down the hill from the temple, you face the luxurious pool area, complete with a wonderful place to lounge. Aphrodite was quoted in "Gods and Gardens Magazine" as wanting "a simple, private little space where I can catch a little topless sun without having to turn 'Peeping Toms' into squirrels and goldfish all the time." Aphrodite's cats particularly enjoy chasing the squirrels.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e1/MistressUseless/MST2%20Contest/Poolnojets.jpg

Rounding off the far side of the yard is a beautiful natural pond with a waterfall, swans, water lillies and plenty of goldfish (see earlier comment).

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e1/MistressUseless/MST2%20Contest/PoolJets.jpg

Aphrodite is particularly fond of her "little pool jets," which have been known to soak unsuspecting party guests when they inadvertantly insult their hostess. She also has been known to frequently soak her hunky pool guys and gardeners, in order to get them to shed their shirts. The life of a goddess is full of amusements!

I got much of the content from MST2, with special recognition going to DH Sims Site for the lovely ruins, and Aussie Top-Enders for many of the lovely resizes and recolors of the plants.

I have really enjoyed this contest, and look forward to more.
Thanks!
