Glad you all like this- Remember you will be able to change doors and windows- And each room will have a specific theme- So to the person who chose the GT set- You can use it if you feel it fits the theme thats given per room. Those will be announced once I have all applications in. Everyones lots look good. Thanks for following instructions :)

Hey LyricLee,
i was wondering if you could give some examples of what you would be looking for in the winningg house/room! Also maybe some general ideas/themes of rooms (so that we can know what we are getting ourselves into). I understand if you cant. But Thanks soo much anyways!
I was also wondering if we could switch the bathroom and bedrrom around becaus in this setup..it sims as though the bathroom is bigger then the bedroom:S Anways..same as above...i understand if you cant.. But just tell me if i'm being annoying asking for somany things..sorry

Ps..I can't wait for the next round!!

Simgrl88 please look carefully at the dimensions post- your lot is off by a few squares and has to be redone.

cheeze- can you please provide an aerial shot looking straight down with walls down- I cant determine the proprotions of yoru rooms with your walls up

chique- the challenge is not knowing what style will be popped on you :) So i cant give that away- And Id rather not switch rooms and see how we can work with the limitations given to us. Kind of like living in a real house- you jsut have to adjust to the space given.

simgirl88 your windows are not in the proper spots following the template ive layed out- it has to be EXACTLY the same as the one ive shown.

hghngon i dont know what is wrong but your image uplaoded is only 100 something large- you have to provide one much larger than that- try using the print screen button to take your photos or play with your in game camera settings.

cheezball- your front door and window are off

Those with small pics, I think it's photobucket making them tiny to conserve space. Maybe try a different image hosting site or fiddle with the settings. I had it happen to me before, but didn't know what to do to fix it.

you should reduce the file size of the image, there are a lot of different ways to do it, and it varies for each program'

I don't think you can do it with paint either, just to let you know :)

DJ- Sorry I had already added you but didnt tell ya- youre fine
HG- IM getting a red x for your pic- can anyone see it?

Lucious-Lethe-gemini and angel- perfect- adding names to the list now :)

ps- About the window rule to clarify- Each room will have a different theme- and you may change the existing windows to any you like as long as you keep them the same size- You cant put a two tile window where theres a one tile window- unless theres two one tile windows side by side then its ok.
The same tiles must be occupied with windows at all times- no adding or subtracting the ammount of windows, but they can be changed to whatever kind of window you want-
Does that clarify better?

LyricLee
10th Jan 2006, 8:07 PM
OMG you did it! Perfect lot too- Thanks HG - adding u now

LyricLee
10th Jan 2006, 9:23 PM
You can use the same windows- trust me guys youll probably change windows once you get your theme as not every window will fit the theme of the room- dont worry about them right now.

Valasia and sdsims are all fine

cheezball youre still missing the window in the livingroom on the small wall thats three tiles wide :)

chique- at no time in the contest will half walls be required but youre more than welcome to use any design items to modify the rooms as long as you never replace any existing walls that are in this base lot. you can only ADD walls in a room for architectural purposes if you personally want to- I dont care what content you use

dj_s_claus I will be making more clothing shortly (this entry round has kept me quite busy lol) but the top 3 (or 5 depending on total cuts made per round) will recieve the clothing shown and more if i make some. - the grand prize winner will be the only one getting the custom user title :)

Well, here is my entry, and an attempt to clarify my question:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y179/Ellatrue/Deco_contest1.jpg

Can the doors and windows that we choose now be changed later on in the contest? For example, if I use maxis now, can I switch to grand trianon style windows once we start decorating the rooms, as long as the placement stays the same? I want to wait before I decide if I am going for a modern or a traditional style, depending on the themes.

LyricLee
14th Jan 2006, 7:05 AM
the room should allow the sim to move- granted no sims are in these lots- but just dont block the door things like that- this is supposed to be a very realistic bedroom- something youd really see.

14th Jan 2006, 2:22 PM
I have a question about round 1 as well. I am surprised some of you don't put a wardrobe?! Are there things we HAVE to put in to make it realistic? Ok, a bedroom has to have a bed - but what else? What about a bed for just 1 person? Does the room have to be for two?

That's an interesting point about the wardrobe.
I usually don't put wardrobes (or tv's, when do they sleep? :) ) in bedrooms but I do realize they need one. I usually put them in entry halls or something.
So Lyric, is it ok if we end up with a fully functional house eventually?
And is it necessary? Cause then I'm going to have to do some advanced planning here :doh

sayyadina_SC
14th Jan 2006, 4:57 PM
I just hope Ill make it to round 3..(ha, ha). All the rooms are amazing! So inspiring to get ideas for your regular Sim-houses!
(and since a lot of peple dont have wardrobes in their IRL-bedrooms, I guess its quite "realistic" not to have one)

Ciane
14th Jan 2006, 6:41 PM
Precious, an easy way to find the house is to package it. Then, you don't have to guess which lot it is in the neighborhood.

LyricLee
14th Jan 2006, 7:51 PM
Lethe To be honest its totally up to your descretion. I have one bedroom of my house that hasa closet and no dressers- i have one room with 3 dressers. That Im not so much worried for- Its a bedroom so it needs to have a bed. Anything else is kinda optional. Im looking for the most realistic asian bedroom. Im not looking for particular pieces of furniture- more so the vibe coming from the room.

A kitchen would have to have a stove sink and fridge. A iving room has to have a sofa- those are basics- the other items you use- as long as they fit in the theme are up to you.

I will not be judging functionality like you described- as I said before I dont want to see a bed slammed up against a door- or an armoire against a big bay window- there has to be some kind of design to it and there should be some way for a sim to walk to the bed.
In the end if you chose to use this house for a sim thats cool and if not its cool too. Thats totally up to y'all.

Is that what you were asking- sorry to confuse so many people.

Precious- I agree with ciane- just package the lot to a sims2pack file. then you can burn it or what not to keep it.

Uni has it, but NL actually has it too. So if you don't have uni, and do have NL, you should still be able to use it. The only one it doesn't work for is the original game.

Mines a recolor of the normal candle base. Its not from MtS2 or tSR as far as I can tell but can't help any more then that. It is useful though.

LyricLee, I've noticed that a lot of entries are adding walls, isn’t that against the rules?

moonluck you can add walls all you want- you just can not edit any of the base walls from the original floor plan. so if people put partitions and such thats perfectly fine.

Sure moonluck- im not going to be overly anal about little things- i dont want to see a high tech stereo system in the middle of the living room - just a main victorian/antique feel- the house can very well exist in this time period- a friend of mines house is done in antiques and she has a computer and tv set there but it still looks nice.

For what it's worth, Ms Useless Knowledge, yours is my favorite so far. I love the red, black, and white kitchen theme and have used it myself in my own kitchen and for a sims contest currently on going (when a house becomes a home).

Ciane, I just saw your comment. Thanks - I was pleased to get positive feedback. I was a little stumped at first on the kitchen, but then remembered the diner I hung out in at university. It was in a retro style, and looked really cool. My husband also really likes this room, and says he wouldn't mind a real kitchen like that - and he is REALLY picky, so that is a huge compliment. I lean more towards light country or contemporary - just comfortable and easy to keep clean in spite of the kids- in my own house, so the red is a real change for me.

I have really enjoyed this contest, and hope to make it to the last round!
Thanks to everyone who makes such great stuff!

I was dreading the garden, to be honest, so I don't mind not making it too much
good luck everyone!

Thats how I felt about the kitchen,(and the "victorian era", which I failed) Lethe_s. But the Garden-round makes me feel I should have worked harder alltogether, cause Im good at gardens (or, so I think).
There will be more contests like this one, LyricLee says. I learned things from participating, and seeing other peoples pics and ideas, so it was fun no matter how it turned out!
(maybe this is off topic, but this contest inspired me to re-decorate my real home in a very structured way, and I also learned more from different sources about different styles. It was great, cause it rekindled my interest in this).
Im not a very competitive person really, so the concept of "winning" can be seen in many ways, I think.
(I suddenly felt... philosophical, oops)

awww im glad you guys really enjoyed this- i am still truly amazed at how beautiful you managed to make these little digital homes look. plese believe me when is ay that we never cut anyone for being Bad..... it was beyond difficult to cut good rooms. it just came down to judges preference on "better"
I hope to see all of you again next contest- sayyadina your bedroom was one of my all time favorites :)

A part of me feels rather relieved that I was cut from the final round... room design alone isn't my strong suit, but outdoor decor really drives me nuts! I'm honestly surprised that I made it as far as I did.

I'll say this much though, this was a neat contest with some VERY stiff competition. When it came time to make my entries, I was reluctant every round to even submit my pics after seeing the designs others had come up with. It still amazes me the amount of variety stemming from one common theme.

My personal favorites were gemini2281's bedroom, Loverat's bathroom, Lethe_s's living room, and Ms. Useless Knowledge's 50's kitchen/nengi65's 70's kitchen.

'Course, that's just my opinion. Hope no-one feels offended by that.

Good luck to those remaining contestants! I'll be watching for the results!

This was a really fun contest, and evern though I didn't make it for any of the other rounds, I still created them as they were posted. Plus, this gave me a legitimate reason to download more stuff. Good luck to the last contestants. I can't wait for the next contest.

I just wanted to compliment everyone on fabulous rooms and I don't envy the judges trying to choose between them. I can certainly understand why I didn't continue on past the bedroom round. I have however, been following this contest am still completing each room as they go. I want to thank LyricLee for running this and look forward to trying my hand at future contests, it has been a lot of fun.

Congratulations! And thank you for such fun. I so loved meshing, searching and recolouring items to finish my home, even after getting bumped from the running - wonderful seeing everyone elses entries as well, such lovely work!

Thanks for such a great time! I love looking for new downloads, and this was really cool and challenging, looking for specific theme-related items. I also gave myself a further challenge - I only used downloads that were free. So it is great to know that there are thousands of downloads out there that are available if you don't want to pay for a membership somewhere!

I think my downloads folder is up to 14,000 now - and I have been cleaning it out pretty regularly over the past year. I am really a downloadaholic!
