View Full Version : I Want… (features you'd like to see)

Now that many of us have the game and have started to play it, what would you like to see added to the game or changed in the game? Nothing fundamental like "I want The Sims 3 to vanish into oblivion and EAxis to produce Sims 2 expansions forever to my exacting and undefined expectations." What would you like to see in the game as shipped? Some of the requested features might already be in the game. It is obviously a very rich game that cannot be fully explored by one sim in one sim lifetime. If you haven't found them, someone else might have.
I want…
Babysitters that look after the kids while a parent is home
My sim comes home from work exhausted and the babysitter is gone before she's even in the door. 'Can't you stay a couple of hours longer and feed the kids while I take nap? I'll pay you! Please, oh God, please!! I'm so tired!!!'"
Dynamic Career Rabbit Holes
Co-workers advance. Bosses change. Occasional reports of chance card or opportunity results for co-workers.
Player Accessible Neighbourhood Register
All that stuff that's in the newspaper—births, deaths, marriages, arrivals, departures? I would like a searchable log accessible in game that lists all those events chronologically from the start of the game. (Related: Since time marches on, a day counter since game start. 11:40 a.m., Tuesday, Day 113.) My sim doesn't read the paper every day. Who has the time? And I don't write down everything reported in the paper. But when I do notice a sim is missing, I would like to be able to figure out what happened to him or her.
A Story Progression Toggle That Works
Just noting this to separate it from my two Story Progression wants.
Story Progression That Considers Sim-level Events
I want to see babies preferentially go to young couples, then couples, then women in relationships, and creepy old, friendless men living in rundown shacks last. I want to see marriages happen to sims with good relationships.
Finer Grained Story Progression Exclusion Options
I want to be able to exclude certain sims or certain households from being moved away to balance the neighbourhood. Maybe base it on families. Any exempt sim also exempts any spouse and any dependent children. Any exempt dependent child also exempts any parent and dependent siblings.
A Game Clock That Stops When The Computer Is Confused About What To Do
A clock that relentlessly ticks away while I, the stupid player, try to figure out what to do is fine. One that goes faster when I am prevented from taking any action because the computer is loading the animation to open a door is just annoying.

Split Level Homes
I have yet to find the ability in Sims 3 to create homes w/ half levels, ie: split entries, etc.
Half Walls
I know they weren't included in the base game of Sims2 but aren't we past this already? In my opinion, Sims3 should have all of the building tools from the Sims2 series.
Ground level walls next to foundations
I cannot state how many times in Sims2 I wanted a house built on a foundation and then wanted to connect a ground level garage to it... I expected this issue to be resolved in Sims3...it appears I was wrong.

Sensible Portion Sizes
If two sims live in a house, "Serve Dinner" should default to two portions. Either my sims have to cook for themselves or leftovers are constantly going bad in the fridge. (It is a nice feature to have leftovers. A bit of realism, and a quick way to eat the next day.)
ADDITIONAL:
Swim in the Ocean
It looks so inviting. (Swimming seems rather boring. Has anyone managed to get a game of Marco Polo going or something?)
Turn Ons and Turn Offs
Sims able to have up to five turn ons or turn offs that would modifier social interaction results. But can have less than five or even none. And sensible ones please: hair colour, hair style, facial hair, muscle amount, fat amount, eye colour, clothing style, traits, wealth, career—that sort of thing. Imagine your sim marries a sim that is turned on by brave, hairy firemen, blue eyes, and blonde hair. Unfortunately she can't cook and sets the stove on fire. Guess who shows up to put it out? :p

You can create a sort-of-split-level and put ground walls next to foundations using the same cheat- though it is time consuming, I nearly always do this. The cheat is "ConstrainFloorElevation true/false," it works the same way it did in TS2 (I did it last night to do a home that is both split level and has a garage connected to the part on the foundation), there are some great tutorials floating around the community.

I thought the same thing! The water is so pretty, far too pretty for my Sims not to be able to take a dip in! lol

Elimination of Rabbit holes. When My sims to out to dinner I want to see what they are doing. Like in Sims 2. Taking that away is like a whole step backward.
Sims NOT running everywhere. I click to tell my sim to go somewhere, and they RUN everywhere. WALK idiot?

The ability to choose which households for story progression to apply to. For example, in Sims 2 I really liked one younger sister and never cared to play her older sister. It would be great if I could select just the older sister's house to age along with the younger sister. Dunno if this makes sense to anyone else...

I noticed with messing around with a basement that you no longer have to try to lower the ground to the perfect level to make walls fit in the basement. Unless this is a glitch in my game, when I was digging the basement and trying to figure out if I had the right depth to put a wall in, I noticed that the walls will stretch up to meet the floor above regardless of how deep it is, instead of freaking out on you and making your whole house implode or something. Maybe this is a glitch, or maybe not, I don't know, but I like it. You could make a pretty deep basement with some rather tall walls that way. I'm going to go test it out again and see what happens . . .

I wish we could have more object variety in the default game. Specifically, more stuff that most of us already have in our homes.
Washers and dryers. Closet racks. Decorative storage boxes to stuff in the attic. Shelving. Folded-up towels to stuff in the shelves. That sort of thing. :(
I like making real homes. Like, I load up some floor plan site and recreate a house I like. Or I make a replica of my house, or my mother's house, or the house I lived in when I went to high school. But I end up with these stupid-looking rooms with dressers in them to mimic the functionality of closets.... And empty rooms where the washer and dryer would usually be. :(
Meh.

The ability to spy into the neighbors houses when my sims is sleeping or at work.
The ability to change active family more seamlessly. Actually, EAxis worked really hard to dissuade us to change household.
MystiTsu
4th Jun 2009, 3:49 PM
Yeah, one thing i liked that came later in the sims 2 I think, was the ability to click on a neighbor that was playable and save my current house and start playing that neighbor. With this game, I have to save, go to the main screen, make a copy of a sim i made in another game, put them in a game, put the sim im playing in the same game and then i STILL have to go back that screen?
You can make a million diffferent sims, but if you have to go through all that rigamaroll to play different sims you make? Why would I bother to make more. ?

The ability to change active family more seamlessly. Actually, EAxis worked really hard to dissuade us to change household.Oh, I know, you have click through like four boxes to change households. And after you say you are sure you want to change households, that white box pops up on the left and you have to click "choose household" and that is so annoying - it covers several houses. Is there anyway to get rid of that box so it doesn't appear each time? Any help with that would be very welcome.

ditto. Especially closets, I hate that I have to wait for people to come out with CC closets.. I designed a bunch of houses pre-release and now I have empty holes in the wall and large empty rooms where closets/walk-ins should be.

Gotta sell those expansions! :P
Actually, I don't have the hate some people seem to for expansions, but I do wish EA would organize the game line differently. Rather than give us three or four partial games in the initial release and extend those piecemeal in expansions, I'd be happier with one complete game in the initial release and each expansion adding a complete new aspect. TS1 was more or less like this as no one had planned on expansions.

Am I being self-centered to assume that has something to do with me?
Well, apart from the obvious (several fixes, proper functionality, promised things (like a neighbourhood-creator)):
Many many more animations and object interactivity
Had a hard time to name that.
Like entering and exiting vehicles, different types of sitting or reading or standing or walking depending on the Sim's personality, the fridge actually containing the stuff you have in there, better indication of dirt on objects and on more objects like the dining table or the floor (other than puddles, dust for example), cloth-hygiene (washing and drying and an occassional need to change clothes) and some other things that frequently pop into my head while I play the game.
The way it is now, there's too little progress from TS2 which makes me wonder about the long development time. Most animations are basically still the same.
Social interactions in heavy combination with the seamless neighbourhood
Borrowing a tomato to a fellow Sim as an opportunity is a good idea but what about borrowing one yourself. Or calling your neighbour to ask him a favor (rhyme not intended) like repairing the TV or watching the kids.
Gradual destruction of rabbit holes and greater amount of community lots
The website says "tons of places" or similar... Yer... The neighbourhood is just small. Period.
Basically every other suggestion that is in this thread.

Well I want to be able to adjust eyebrows!
But mostly as a builder...I don't know why we STILL dont have the ability to make a "landing" that is 8 clicks high for an L shaped stair without having to mess with elevations and deform the walls. Like wth. Is this not 2009?
Like that glitchy "stage" thing we had in TS2, only with adjustable height.

I've ALWAYS wished EA would release a more racy expansion. Maybe if they could get the rating NC-17 or something. Dont laugh!! It's a good idea!! Prolly would never come into play but still a good idea.
If they give a warning to ppl about the content that would protect them from lawsuits or complaints about the material so why cant they do it???

I want the ability to have my created Sims age altogether but to turn off all the weirdness of story progression like random babies on the floor and moving away every twelve seconds. The idea of aging everyone together is nice because in Sims2 I'd have two teens in love then one would grow up and the still-teen sweetheart would come around with hearts swirling around his/her head. I had Sims grow to adulthood whie their childhood friends were still kids, so I like the aging aspect but the rest of the life events need to be way more proportional.
Also, when your friends move away in real life, they don't just vanish from existence. If your Sim has a relationship with a Sim and that Sim is going to move, maybe a phone call is in order? Something? And enough with the babies already!
I would like traits to be refined by experience, perhaps add a temporary trait or two, such as someone going through a bad break up could become less outgoing and more bitter. Then there would be some opportunities that that Sim would have to either indulge those negative traits or work towards repairing or eradicating them. I realize moods basically do that but this would be more long term. A temporary trait could also mean that someone who has experienced a great deal of success becomes more confident or more satisfied with life.
One thing I never liked in Sims 2 is that when a family member moved out of the house they simply became like a friend, with no additional interactions and never calling their folks Mom or Dad. Maybe I'm asking too much, but an additional tier of relationships for family members outside the household would make some of my stories work better.
Naturally, I want my Sims to be able to enter venues. I wouldn't even mind going to work with them.

I want to be able to create my own neighbourhood from scratch. I don't understand why that's been taken out, (or am i missing something?) I've never liked playing in the premade towns and I don't like it now. :(
And I'd really like to play my Sim while they're at a venue. Especially things that I've grown used to in the sims 2, like actually ordering something neat at a restaurant/diner.

I want them to have the ability to mix up what they where everything. Planning out your outfits should be specific of what you want to wear.
Say if you have 3 different one piece clothing "outfits" then I with they would randomize which one the sims put one.
ALSO I want the whole feel of the Sims 2 back to the Sims 3. Sequels are sequels for a reason. To build upon the foundation. Not ripe it apart and weigh each option to cater to there definition of a target audience.

I can confirm sims can discover informaton about other sims by chatting on the computer. I had a sim autonomously use the computer and while he was using it a pop-up came saying he discovered so&so sim was single.
Regarding sim interractions, I really wish the communication tree would not reset back to neutral so often. I find it annoying that one moment my sim has a certain interraction available and the next moment it's gone and I have to redo all the interractions again. if I've unlocked the option to ask a sim to move in or kissing then they should stay unlocked until their relationship deteriorates or soemthing.

Yes, "Partner" is a special discoverable trait. I'd like to also find out about parents, siblings, children, maybe even co-workers and close friends. It's chrome, but chrome can make a game interesting.

More community lots. Those "community lots" gets old really, really fast. And as several has mentioned, I'd like to SEE what's going on at work. Add more restaurants, bowling alleys, spas, MALLS/SHOPPING CENTERS -- all of those can add jobs.
Swim at the beach! Uh, what is the point of having a beach if you can't swim in it?! Where are the crabs, shells and other "beachy" things?! Sims should be able to build sandcastles, beach volleyball, water guns, suntan -- things that people do at the beach!
Necklaces. Where are the necklaces?! Sure, there's a couple on *some* outfits but I may not want my Sim to wear that particular outfit.
ELIMINATE the Sims store. EA, we get it. People will buy CC, why? We'll never know but we know they will. However, you should have ADDED those in the game. I would think when the game was pushed back 4 MONTHS, that should have gave you the time to fix the crap you were to lazy to put in. Mom always says, "Do it right THE FIRST time and you won't have to do it again."
HOBBIES! Ugh, me and my Sims are bored. 'Nuff said. Wouldn't it be nice to have a book club?! Bookworm Sims can have their neighbors over and discuss books; little girls could be Girl Scouts (call it, Llama Scouts or something), have something like a Star Trek convention, like how they have Trekies? That's a hobby, make something Sims related.
Holidays -- and NOT holiday stuff, either. This will be especially cute since we have a seamless neighborhood. To see little kids trick-or-treating or a group of neighbors singing Christmas carols, that would be awesome to see.
Neighborhood functions. I know about that stupid "neighborhood grill-a-thon" but hardly anyone be there. What about a block party, contests, a CARNIVAL!
More careers and other career paths. I'd like to see some realistic careers, some that are "easier" than others, or at least more realistic. For example, a mailman, (because we have cars) mechanics, landscapers, firefighters...and expand other careers like for the medical career expand to a pharmacist, veterinarian, OB/GYN -- that can come in handy for pregnant women. Or for entertainment expand to actor/actress, music producer, model, TV host, reality TV star. I think you guys get what I'm saying...
WEATHER. Why see the wind blow if there's no rain, snow or falling leaves. I think that's quite stupid, don't you think?
PETS. Yeah, I know. The TS2 Pet expansion was dumb and useless, but with this one, make it fun. Have exotic animals, people have snakes, spiders and monkeys for pets. Then have a neighborhood function like a pet show, also that's where a vet career can jump in. Hell, add a zoo or two.
Supernatural creatures. Even though I'm not "big" on that, I'd still like to have a choice on playing one.
Expand the party idea. What about baby showers, graduation parties (for teens and children), bachelor/ette parties, BBQ's -- make things more fun.
FIX those motives/skills thing. Um, didn't EA say that we weren't going to be focusing on keeping our Sims clean, neat and fed -- FAIL. Every time I turn around my Sim has to eat or pee.
Sigh. I could go on and on but I don't wanna bore you. Overall, yes the Sims 3 is alright, however, I do think it could be better, a LOT better. I just feel like they gotten super lazy with everything. The game looks and feels rushed.
To me, when I look at The Sims 3, the cities feel like a failing economy to me, lol. No jobs, bad education, bored Sims...EA fix yo' stuff!

*OH, and to make a new selection, like in the sims2 we could put things we liked together and wootnot in a folder so that we easally could find all the stuff again in buy menu and stuff.. (understand what im trying to say here, not sure i do :P )
And i want a mod of some kind that lets me deside that my sims sould eat their dinner and stuff inside at the dining table and not go outside to the table thats in use when their bbq'ing...

Elimination of the rabbit holes. I'm okay with them for now but I can see them becoming tedious in the future. I'll be fine with career based buildings remaining rabbit holes - who wants to watch their Sims work? - but something like a restaurant, diner and theatre could easily be opened up.

Oh that gave me a great idea. Your sims should be able to take NPC jobs here! It could also be a job that you have an option to follow your sims around. It would be a neat way to meet people in the neighborhood. You could meet all these people as you deliver their mail, clean their houses and deliver them pizza!

Since I just got my copy today, I just want the edge scroll to be less sensitive, having more sliders on things such as the face shape, the neck, etc. The ability to see my sims in various locations other than libraries, gyms, etc. Also to decrease the color contrast, 'cause this is giving me a bit hard time to build/decorate a house. Also more items, of course. ^^

Okay, well I want...
*Half sprinklers and quarter sprinklers for my garden.
*Changing tables/ability to bathe babies and toddlers
*The gardener back
*Private School
*Ability to recolor stairs, railings, and fences
*Ability to adjust individual roof slopes
*Ability to create new neighborhoods
*Ability to place down new lots
*Ability to move premade houses on lots (I like my houses to start at the edge so I have a wide open space for whatever, but when you place premade houses down they automatically go to the middle)
*Ability to have custom skintones and eyes (there is no star so I assume we will have problems with it)
*Paler Skin
I think that's it...for now!
