I don't know what a GPU is, but my laptop gets hot enough to burn my legs. :(

You can check your temperature by either by using Everest or I know if you have nvidia, you can download tools for free that will tell you your temperature.

Mine 8800GTS 640 idles around 45C max 55C Full Load..

I have an ATI 4870. It can get up to the boiling temperature of water. At sea level.

9800 GX2, both cards sit around 75c usually, hits into the 80s when under stress.

I'm equipped with an ASUS GeForce 9800GT on an Asus P5Q-E mobo with the EPU Engine. It cools the box very effectively (Five fans doesn't hurt either). I haven't seen anything over 55C, even running Vanguard SoH.
