It simply doesn't work for me. :/ I even re-installed TS3 but still no success.
I'm kind of thinking there's something wrong with my computer but I just want to know if someone else is having the same problem.
I can still play via the Game>Bin>TS3 but I can't download custom content via the launcher which is VERY annoying :(

Yeah what does happens when you get this problem, do you get an error message? My mom called me the other day saying that she can't get the Sims to run, turned out the shortcut just stopped working, I asked her to restart the computer and wala, it worked... weird.
Are you using the shortcut on the desktop and or in the programs menu and have you tried double clicking on the Sims3Launcher.exe in the C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin folder?

I don't know exactly what these messages say in english but well, it just says something like "TS3 launcher had an error and had to be shut down" and then you can choose to send windows/microsoft/whatever a... bug report?

Yup, I've tried both the shortcut and the one in the Bin folder.

Ah so it is a Microsoft problem, could be incompatability issues or something else, post up your PC specs (http://linna.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game Help:System Specs).

Too bad there isn't a reinstall launcher option, I'm out of ideas here, except for just that to see if a reinstall fixes the issue, just be sure to back up your saved game, or choose not to delete it during the uninstall process. Sorry I’m not much help here, but that is usually the best fix for crashes like this, when Microsoft is giving an error message on an application start up.
:edit:
Wait what happens when you double click on a sims3pack file?

I've already tried re-installing :/
And the same error message comes up when I click a sims3pack file.
Ah well, thanks anyway, I guess I'll have to to try to live without the launcher haha.

I'm having the same issue. It was working, but it ceased working today. I unistalled and reinstalled, and still does not work either.

What did you change between it working and it not working? New content? New software?

I went on a download content binge, couldn't stand the lack of hair options and what-not. Nothing else had changed with the computer.
EDIT:
/sigh OK, so I uninstalled again, did a registry clean, defraged, and reinstalled. Now it seems to be working. I'll see for how long...

Mine is randomly working.. Sometimes I keep trying & it will work.. I've had to log out of EA's Download manager & log back in (making sure it's the current version I've deleted all others from previous sims) & sometimes I don't get IE's option to "allow" so I'm thinking it's a protection issue with the new IE 8 in my case. BTW, where the heck is the log it keeps telling me to check when it won't upload?
Some of the things I"ve tried (may be coincidence it helped) is checking ENGLISH on the sims 3 page before downloading/uploading, restarting IE, restarting dl manager, restarting launcher, logging out then back in, restarting pc. adding sims 3 to safe sites in IE8, always allow launcher (firewall), retrying to upload/download, trying at a later time, updating everything (& I mean EVERYTHING except sp2 for vista home premium).
I don't get the errors all the time but I seem to get them daily. I've heard some things have limits on sizes but found no resource list to check the limits on them (like sims, lots, etc. Heard 1 mb for sims, 5 mb for lots but not sure).
Once all I did was reboot the pc & it worked. Once all I did was restart IE8. I don't want to get another browser, one is plenty of work to keep up with. I was hoping to just find a way around it.. The patch seemed to make it worse with the launcher but the game runs good mostly.. Some graphical issues when move objects is on (like the fireplace becoming seperate from chimney & chimney being in like 5 parts that you can't restack) but that may be normal?
Maybe, like dragonball said, I should clean out my registry.. That I've not done. Wonder if OneLiveCare still does that for vista? I'll try it, thanks!
Good luck you guys.. Sorry for your troubles.. Wish me luck..

PS. My system auto-defrags in it's spare time (typically spare time).. I don't think I need to do that.. It does it at the most inopportune times, too but it does seem to keep it defragged.
EDIT: I'd like to add that I get errors & I get the shut down of the launcher.. meaning it just simply closes.. nothing said... no errors reported. I also get closes here at mts2 saying the website caused a crash but it restores the tab. The new IE8 has given me issues all along, I once uninstalled it when it first came out for that reason. It was giving problems at pogo.com
