View Full Version : Possible Vacation/BV remake? Do it right this time!

As I posted elsewhere, IF this ends up being a vacation type EP, it could still add a lot to the gameplay by expanding the functionality of rivers and beaches beyond just fishing. I was frankly surprised that we were given swimmable oceans and the ability to build sand castles and look for shells and treasures in Sims2, only to have that all taken away in Sims3 and replaced with a fishing functionality only. The beauty of the beach and river vistas is a real plus for Sims3 so I do think an EP that capitalizes on that would be a wise choice for a first EP this time around. But dang-it, they'd better give us very selectably customized doors. I took my sims on vacation in BV only a couple of times and even though I did set the doors I still had to work pretty hard to keep people from just wandering in and using every single thing in my hotel room! GRRR!
This was posted in another thread and it got me thinking about how to make a Vacation pack actually work this time around. This is all just speculation at this point, although strangely enough, these things always seem to end up being close to the truth. A French online site has posted about a possible Sims 3 expansion pack. (http://www.jeuxvideopc.com/news/26788-premier-add-on-pour-sims-3-destination-aventure.php)

With a seamless neighbourhood this should work, and yet I can see EA screwing it up one more time. I'd like to see the following things in action.

Take advantage of the seamless neighbourhood! Despite a lot of cool ideas, BV became a nightmare of loading screens. I spent half of my vacation waiting for a taxi to go to another lot. Time spent in the hotel should be kept to a bare minimum. Lots should include lounge chairs/hammocks for napping and food stands should be readily available. A tent that can go in the inventory and be plonked down anywhere would be brilliant too. I want to be able to keep my Sims motives in the green no matter which lot I'm on. Slower motive decay might be a good idea too.

Include lots of activities that can been seen (no rabbit holes), such as 3-legged races, boat rides, mini-put, rockwall-climbing and other original ways to skill or attain wants that cannot be accessed from the home lot.

Bring back weather and all the activities associated with it, especially the winter activities. Ocean swimming is a MUST! Skating on ponds would be awesome too.

What happens in Sim Vegas stays in Sim Vegas! No silly dances, chants, wants, or other annoyances following Sims home to be used at the most inappropriate time (unless that is a trait).

Make sure that the game has atmosphere. The ambient sound in Sims 3 is one of it's best features. Use that! Make it exotic or foreign enough to feel like it's almost a different game. BV was so utterly and completely generic...don't go there again.

Vacation shopping is the bomb! Give my Sims lots of crap to purchase or collect, but make it big/attractive enough to display once they return home. Perhaps some vacation mementos could actually be useful back in the real world. *gasp*

Variety, variety, variety!

You never know, third time might be a charm. :p

Uh... since Sims3 is a seamless neighborhood, where would you go on vacation *to*? A 'resort' in the same neighborhood would seem odd, somehow.

Yes I agree with everything said, I am excited about this, the only thing that killed BV for me was the load screens. This EP could also add some missing things like weather, swimming in the sea, and shelves (to put souveniers on).

It'd be great to have some of the features from Sims 1 Vacation. Such as the game stalls, or what about the pinball machines and videogames that have dissapeared in Sims 3? Being able to send postcards home was always nice too.

And if they have to make this the first EP, weather surely has to be a must, or it'll fail.

I'd like to see them swimming in the ocean too. With the shark infested waters, it would make swimming in the ocean even more interesting. There could be signs posted but ignorable, and if a sim got to close to a patch of fish....grim reaper time. lol

They should also bring back 'Nessie'.

I like your ideas aeval. However I could definitely see the production company messing things up for us just like EA did last time. (In case you were unaware EA wont be producing the EPs for TS3.) anyway, I have to say that BV was definitly a huge mistake when they made it. If this were more like a seamless Vacation that would be better. Also i saw somewhere that someone said that it would be weird having the same neighborhood resort like thing. Well currently we are unaware if they are going to do things like that. They may make it another neighborhood where you click a button or they may make the map bigger and you can drive out of your town and into the vacation town. (i like that idea) We will just have to wait and see. Also i cant beleive that they are making a vacation EP first (if indeed this will be the real thing and not just a rumor)

EA will... Maxis is a part of EA. I think ts3 were made by black box (or something like that) owned by EA. But ofcourse it's EA who makes the expansion packs. They made the base game, and have all the rights for sims.

EA Black Box which is the company that made the base game The Sims 3, shut down. Therefore no one knows who will be making the Expansions just yet. It is rumored that the company that made the Burnout series will be making it but no one is sure yet.

[edit] Future of the Series
On December 19 2008, EA announced they would be closing EA Black Box's Vancouver studio and moving the studio to its nearby Burnaby studio as part of a worldwide consolidation plan. Officials stressed that Black Box would remain open, and said they expected the move to be completed in June 2009,[6][7] after the release of Black Box's last game, The Sims 3.

It is unknown who will develop the future expansion packs. Rumors say it will be Criterion Games, which developed Burnout series.

Yep, wonder whos gonna buy it? Hope they have better ideas on the expansions!

what i could put up with is a loading screen to a seamless vacation neighbourhood
which can only be accessed in game.

Isn't that stuff annoying?! I was thinking of items that are large enough to be useful. Edit: maven2379 are the Sims in your icon protesting? What's that all about?

I'd like to see an international market of sorts, where Sims could buy fabric (patterns/textures) from an Indian dealer, or a Sari or some beautiful tea canisters for the kitchen counter. A Greek sculptor could be selling full size statues of the Ancient Gods for garden decoration and perhaps some olive seeds and an olive press. An Italian dealer could sell expresso machines. A French book dealer could have a stall selling some new recipes (you need to use that new found olive oil. A Chinese dealer could be selling beautiful vases and so on, and so on. I'd love to see an art dealer too, selling replicas of famous paintings or local artists' work.

Souvenirs don't have to be useless junk. It would also be nice if Sims could take pictures of local scenery/sites to display or paint after they return home.

Not only would this give you a real reason to go on vacation, but it would also not clog the main game catalogue with a whole pile of things that people may not have any interest in, like diving tanks, chicken suits and gladiator outfits, for example.

Here’s an idea that I think would incorporate Bon Voyage+ Seasons+ Makin’ Magic.

There’d be 4 destinations to go to: Three Lakes (Forest/Mountains), Takemizu City (Far East), Twikkii Island (Beach/Jungle), Vielle Ville (Village). Each destination would have locals who resides there. At each vacation spot, there’d be a mystery you’d could solve using the Opportunity system. Of course, you could ignore the mysteries altogether and have a normal vacation. Each mystery would require you to collect an item or talk to one of the locals or attend an event going on. At the end of each mystery, a supernatural or character awaits.

Three Lakes: Aliens
Takemizu Village: Ninjas & Geishas
Twikkii Island: Sea Creatures & Plantsims
Vielle Ville: Witches & Vampires

After you become friends with the special character, you could have the options to ‘Produce Offspring’ with the alien (males could get pregnant too!), ‘Learn Sacred Teachings’ with the ninjas & geishas, ‘Become Creature of the Seas’ with the sea creatures or ‘Be One With Nature’ with the plantsims, and ‘Become Witch/Vampire’ in Vielle Ville. Then, each creature could have special interactions once you learn or become one.

If you become Disliked by the supernatural creature, they each have a different response:
Aliens impregnant you without your consent. Ninjas shorten your life span. Geishas get your whole household banned from Takemizu Village for one sim week. Sea creatures turns one of your traits into Hydrophobic. Plantsims give you a disease that gives you a ‘Tropical Fever’ moodlet that drains your energy and hygiene for 4 sim days. Witches hex you with a ‘Cursed’ moodlet that lasts for 4 sim days where you can’t get promoted, all romantic advances fail no matter your traits, and skills take a lot longer to gain. Vampires turn you into one without your consent. So you don’t want to mess with these people. LOL

New activities that could be considered:
-New ingredients & dishes
-Swimmable oceans!
-Weather! (Know this probably won’t happen now, but it’s nice to dream)
-Sand castles, sunbathing, fishing for shells making comebacks
-Trendy tourist outfits & outfits fit for each getaway
-Online shopping
-Giving up your children for adoption

My ideas for resorts:

* A Medieval/Renaissance European town (Edinburgh, Prague, Venice etc) with a castle, a cathedral, a market square and campfires
* A gambling resort (Las Vegas, Monaco, Macao etc) with spectacular casinos, a theater and plastic wedding chapels

One issue with resorts is that they should be very stereotypic so that you recognize them, but also not racist. However, that would be no risk with these suggestions.

Gosh some great ideas going on here people, lets just pray EA takes heed, I really just want more actual lots, which you can go into, without being able to go into the lots was a big loss for me I liked being able to go shopping and browse the racks and then head of to a restaurant or a night club afterwards.

i like alot of he ideas that have been mentioned. Particularly the one from happycowlover, if they are going to make a vacation EP first (which to be honest i hope they don't, i'd rather something like OFB, but anyways) i think it should be done like what has been said :D

and combining Bon Voyage, Seasons and Makin’ Magic, would be good too, this way they just get what we had in the sims 2 out of the way and then they can come up with new ideas :)

i'm no genius but couldn't they make it seamless-ish if they make the destinations on an island or something and then have like an airport that we can go to and pick our destination??? i have no idea.. but like madmardy said, as long as the actual holiday destination itself is seamless, i could live with it :P

I love all these awesome ideas. I know it's been said, but I think weather would NEED to be in a BV remake. I've never played a sims vacation game without it (never played the sims 1, one) and I just can't imagine them being able to create a fantastic atmosphere without weather.

I could also deal with a loading screen to a vacation hood, as long as it was seamless. It makes sense that some neighbourhoods, like for instance a downtown hood if they were gonna do a nightlife remake, would be connected to the one we have now, but a vacation hood SHOULD be seperated...otherwise what's the point of going on vacation?

Add to this

Camper trailers for camping

Boats sims could fish, chat, eat, listen to radio, jet ski, kiss and makeout in boats.

Under water scubu diving this could introduce mermaids and mermen.

Actual live tours were you don't see sims disappear then come back later.

Poses make a return and better ones like sims wrapping their arms around each other.

Sims being able to visit and tour inside the lighthouse and you could see in it.

Swimmable lakes

A new interaction stand under Waterfall which brings me to another point a vacation island that would have a waterfall similar to Stoney Falls except much larger and wider and also little many waterfalls.

Submarines so you can tour the underwater ocean.

I think that instead of a loading screen, they could implement the already included feature of a seemless "world" and just have the neighborhood playing in the background while a fixed animation of the sims getting in an airplane and flying out of the neighborhood plays. Then the vacation destination could partially load during this animation, while giving the effect that the destination is far away from the original neighborhood.

This would also allow you to switch back to the neighborhood while on vacation, in a similar style of how the camera switches from one sim on one side of town to another on the other side of town [only the camera would move much faster].

Having this idea implemented would make the original game file load much slower, since it would have to load the neighborhood and the vacation destinations at the same time. But maybe it could do this in a partially loaded manner [Like loading the terrains initially, and then when your camera moves to these areas, the lots and neighborhood decorations load independently].

Wow... This would actually be very cool. Haha

At this point it is only a rumor that got started when someone posted a link to a German website called Gamestar that said the the next ep would be called Destination Adventure It is also wholly FALSE!

If you do a search the only Destination Adventure (http://www.gamespot.com/ps/action/tintindestinationadventure/answers.html) is a game called tin-tin. Which is based on the popular (chinese) little red books. It has nothing to do with The Sims 3.

Its not just a rumor in germany.... here is the french rumor http://www.jeuxvideopc.com/news/26788-premier-add-on-pour-sims-3-destination-aventure.php and the english rumor http://www.sims3website.com/sims-3-news/the-sims-3-destination-adventure-expansion/

I personally do not think that 'destination adventure' refers only to a vacation destination. I would think that in a seamless neighborhood a vacation wouldn't be as seperated from reality as in sims 2... most places we vacation to are towns other people live in.

If this rumor pans out to be true, I think it will include the world builder, enabling us to create other towns, some of which might be 'vacation themed' but are never-the-less neighborhoods people live in.

I think it would include activities/skills that are related to adventure, whether on vacation or not, like beach & water activities we miss from sims 2, as well as things like climbing, digging, skiing, hiking, shopping & night clubs.

I think it would also include careers we've seen before, but better than ever, like those that work with animals [aquatic especially], and adventurer. Call me an optimist, but I think we'll get a lot in the first EP.

Some say it's too soon for an EP, but had we gotten the game on time, the first EP would be early September. The rumor says early November. That's only 2 months later than if the base game hadn't been 3 months late, so I think we should be expecting the offical announcement on an EP any day now.

I was thinking of something along the same lines to "hide" the loading screen. I agree that there should be an airport rabbit-hole that your Sims disappear into and then you see a plane taxiing to the edge of the map. Then a small video could play of a flight attendant doing the pre-flight routine in Simlish. It would be neat if they could have several random versions of the scene:

~If a fellow passenger combusts, point and scream until the whole plane burns.
~If the plane starts to go down, everyone flap their arms.
~If the plane crashes on a deserted island, please feel free to eat your seat cushion.

I'm not so sure that I would want to have both areas loaded at the same time though. That sounds awfully taxing on system resources. I'm OK with loading to a different neighbourhood as long as it's seamless once you get there.

I've been thinking about something similar. I'd like to so one big map with lots of different climates and destinations on it, similar to the Sims 1 vacation game. I would split it up into 4 different seasons and 5 different cultures/atmospheres.

Simdinavia (winter): A boatload of winter activities and sports. A Yeti would be fun, but I really wouldn't want to take one home with me. Favoured by Sims with traits like Loner, Athletic, Daredevil.

Simsterdam (spring): Dual focus on art, classical music, books/ gambling and other vice. Casinos, canal boat rides, outdoor concerts, scavenger hunts for rare guitar music/books/paintings, buyable violins or pianos. Favoured by Sims with traits like Bookworm, Party Animal, Virtuoso, Lucky, Unlucky.

Simvaria (fall/autumn): Focus on architecture, logic, modern music and athletics. Rock climbing, football pitch, archery, shooting, 3-legged Sim-ale races, logic games, hiking and lots of camping. Rare fish to be caught. Favoured by traits like Perfectionist, Angler, Loves the Outdoors.

Simiterranean (summer): Focus on beach activities, romance, swimmable ocean, mythology, ancient history, cuisine. Boat cruises, olive seeds, buyable olive press, buyable sculpture, craftable sculpture, scavenger hunts for rare recipes and art. Favoured by traits like Great Kisser, Hot Headed, Hopeless Romantic, Artistic.

Simdia (summer): Focus on meditation, spirituality (not religion), vegetarian cooking, tea and fabrics. Elephant rides, tea harvesting, tea seeds, buyable fabrics (patterns and textures), buyable sewing machine, buyable local fashions, new vegetarian recipes. Favoured by traits like Family Oriented, Vegetarian, Green Thumb.

Now I'm wishing I could just make the damn thing myself. :jest:

Aeval99 I like your idea. Would be nice if they add lemon and orange trees back too and let us make lemonade and orange juice. And wine too. Herbs and spices would be nice if they add them. Also, I think it would be nice if they add some antiques collector level in the collector skill so sims get to collect rare antiques from their travels.

Personally I am sick of the magic aspect. It ranks up there with all the other stupid cryptid stuff. I know some people love it, but I have zero interest.

I like more interactions, more places to go (where we can SEE inside). If they did a vacation ep, please lose the emphasis on all nature and maybe go for some international flavor...camping is a nice option but in Sims 2 BV everything was 'based on camping or visiting nature.' Yes, you went to some 'Asian place' and learned how to bow (boring). I'd like to see a vacation EP where you travel around "London" or "Paris" or "NYC" and go to parodies of famous places....you know, Sim Stanly and his wife go to "London Bridge" or "Eiffel Tower" and sort of funny cultural stuff happens..

I really didn't think Vacation in Sims 1 was handled well at all, in 2, well, they are all too the same (and dull in the end), and now we are speculating on 3...

**down with camping....down with 'hiking', 'more cities!!**

PS Just read a few threads above me and I agree with them!!!
