Hi all !!!
I have downloaded several sims made by creators of Mod The Sims and would like to create 1 family with them all and with an other way than with mariage.
For example : I have downloaded a granny and a teen, I don't want to marry the granny with the teen but to create the family link between them.
I ask this because I have some Character.sim and some Character.sim3pack and they don't appear in the same place in the game.
How can I do that ??? Many thanks in advance.

Pretty sure the stand-alone super computer allows you do mess with the family tree: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...ic,16355.0.html
Although it's from the awesomemod site, you don't need it to run it. A "master controller" menu is added to every computer in town and you just hit 'family' or something. I've got it and it's pretty useful, although I haven't tested out that particular feature yet.

I use that super computer and I tried to edit the family tree with it for a grandfather and grandson only family that I created last night, because CAS wouldn't let me set them as related for some odd reason, this happened to me before, too when I did a grandmother and grandson. But the edit family tree wouldn't work for me, either. I was not able to get them to have a family relationship together, only allowed to have them as housemates. I had to just pretend they were family. :( Does the Sims 3 even have an option for setting a relationship for grandparents and grandchildren in CAS? I've never made a large family with different generations in the game before, so I don't know if that option normally exists.

If you mean does it ever give the option in game, then yes, when you first create a family in CAS and there's a row of thumbnails at the bottom you can tweak who's related and how. You can't do this with the likes of ISM, AM or any other mod that allows sims to be edited in CAS since you can only edit one at a time. As I said, I hadn't tried the super computer out for that particular purpose, so you're probably right in it not working. If that doesn't work, though, I have no idea what might.

Oh, are you saying if I use a mod (like Awesome, Indie, Gabriel) that allows for you to edit your sim in CAS, then I won't be able to change the relationship between them? Because I can create families in CAS, like parents and children and brothers/sisters fine. But I've never been able to create a grandparent and grandchild alone in CAS (when I first start a new game and create sims). I even get an error when I click the check button after confirming they are housemates, which is the only option I get when I do the edit relationships in CAS, last step before sims are made. But I click on the continue button anyway because that is the only way I can get out of the CAS and have the sims saved.
To me, it seems like the game won't let you make a grandparents with grandchildren only family and would only allow it if you created parents along with them. This is what I'm thinking is the reason I'm not allowed to make one grandparent and one grandchild as a family.

Yeah, I was thinking that before actually - that I wasn't sure how you'd create grandparents and grandchildren without a parent in between. As frustrating as it is, I can kind of understand it. I mean, how would the family tree work? They'd have to have a sim in between it or it would look as if the elder is the teenager's parent. But yes, AM, ISM etc won't (as far as I know) let you alter relationships as you can only edit one sim at a time, and you need the thumbnails of everyone in CAS at once to alter it.
edit: thanks Blaise. I copied and pasted off another thread so I didn't think to check if it worked. That was dumb. Sorry.

Okay. Well, I haven't tried to edit relationships using the edit sim in CAS with a mod. This is a problem I've had when I first create my family in CAS. I'm not happy with EA for not allowing a player to create a grandparent and grandchild in CAS because there are some kids (in real life) that get raised by a grandparent or grandparents. It's too bad that they couldn't have added some of the genes from the grandparent(s) and used random genes (like they do when they create NPCs) to mix together to create the child.

Yeah, they could have done that I suppose. The situation you're talking about though - the grandparents raising the grandchildren - is realistic, yes, but there's always a parent in between, whether they stuck around to raise the child or not, which is what EA were getting at, and why you're more than likely going to have to create a parent for the child then kill them off/move them out/delete them. A PITA yes, but isn't that what EA have turned the Sims into?

Yeah, it looks like I'll have to create a parent and kill them off. I let the grandfather live up to 5 days before he turned 90 (age limit I'm using in game) before killing him off with old age. I'll just have to kill the parent off quickly so I don't have to play them long. I'm only interested in playing the teen and the core mod I'm using right now (Gabriel) doesn't have an option to create just a teen by themselves in CAS, like Awesome mod does.
*Update, I created a grandfather, adult son and a teenage grandson in a new game and the relationships showed up fine. So, that is the only way to get a grandparent and a grandson family together. :(
