View Full Version : Why does changing floor covering break an EA apartment?

When I change floor coverings in an EA apartment lot, it breaks. Anyone know why, or how to prevent it?
There's an EA apartment lot called "Main Street Mobile Homes", has 5 trailer home style units. It works for me if I do NOT modify it.
If I edit the unoccupied lot, then try to have sims rent (either furnished or unfurnished), the game crashes shortly after the sims sign the lease.
When I edit, I do not change zoning. All I do is change the floor covering from ugly to not ugly. I change the floor covering on the roofs of two of the units. (The roofs are really just floors.) I use EA floor coverings, not CC. Then I save.
I use Pescado's apthack and alfixes. Don't have any mods that conflict with them according to HCDU. I do not have Inge's apartment mods nor door mods, nor any other door mods as far as I know.
Does editing and saving EA apartment lots corrupt them?
Do I need to change to residential, then edit, then save? Then reenter and change to apartmentbase?

Rezoning is definitely the preferred method, but I've just realized I've never actually edited an EA apt. Which cheat code are you using to edit without zoning? I've edited my own unoccupied units occasionally with
boolprop aptbaselotspecifictoolsdisabled false
and never had any problems.
There are custom items that can interfere with the zoning process but you've ruled that out. Have you tried it without your CC folder in?
If I have time over the weekend I may see if I can reproduce the problem. is Mai Street Mobile Homes in the bin or on the ground in Belladonna Cove?

It is in the bin, and if it makes any difference, I put it in Desiderata, but that shouldn't matter, right?
I did not use any cheat codes to change the flooring because flooring is among the apartment build mode tools.
I do appreciate the help.

Oh, yeah, duh. Floors.
The hood shouldn't matter unless the hood itself is borked. I haven't really played my copy of Desiderata, just checked out a couple of the lots, can't remember if I initialized it with CC in or out, (my pristine never-been-touched-by-CC hood is Belladonna) so it may not be the perfect control but I will use that hood. I'm quite intrigued, just seriously lacking in time for the next couple of days. I will get back to you.

Well, I pulled out all my CC including the xCEPExtra folder, put down a copy of Main Street Mobile Homes in Desiderata, loaded in the Picasos and played them for about a day and a half. I furnished the apt but made no changes except for switching the shower for a tub. I then exited to the neighborhood, moved the Picasos back into the family bin, reentered the mobile home in build mode, and changed every floor, using flooring from every category. I then reloaded the Picasos, rented the same unit wih absolutely no problems and played them trouble-free for about another day.At no time did I use any cheat codes or re-zone.
I saved and exited, put my CC back in and played another half a day, including a visit to a community lot, with no problems.
If I were experiencing the same problems you are having, my next step would be to generate a new set of user files and swap out my lot bin for a fresh copy and see if that solved anything. Additionally, you could test different combinations of lots and hoods to see if you could pinpoint the problem.
Often it's just not worth the time. I had endless problems with the Greenman house in Riverblossom Hills, finally just gave up, bulldozed it and moved on.

bubbajoe Thank you for checking that lot. I have also asked at MATY. The reports from there suggest a bad EA lot, but you've had no problems, so I'm not 100% convinced it's necessarily the lot. :/ I'll try some more tests myself, but as you said, it is more trouble that it is worth. I'll probably just try building my own lot, more fun that way anyway.
