I tried going into one of my lots in the downtown area today, and the game play is lagging alot and it is annoying. I do not know why it is suddenly doing that, it never use to. And i havent suddenly upped the game performance options to cause the lagging.

I must admit, this lot is a very large land lot, so i wonder if the size of it and what ive got built there is behind it?. I decided to quit gameplay on that lot and i went to a smaller lot with only 5 sims in it, and the game play didnt lag. This lagging is annoying, do i have to start destroying buildings to stop it lagging?.

Larger lots with more stuff tend to lag the game more, yes. It's very well possible that a lot is just too large for your computer to handle, even on a relatively nice machine.

Is this a lot that you've only just built (or changed)? Or have you used the exact same lot before with no lag, and only now it has suddenly started to lag? Did you perhaps change something else that would impact game performance in general (like using a larger screen or window, higher graphics settings, more CC .. )?

This FAQ has a few good tips on how to improve overall game performance: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game%20Help:Onboard%20Graphics -- it's written for people with onboard graphics but those tips also apply for everyone else.

Other than that, you could remove stuff from that lot or make it smaller .. it depends on the lot how much you can do.

I have added some more custom content since i last played on that lot, thats the only difference. Still a pain in the backside tho, i might have to start destroying buildings and storeys on there then.

I'd suggest removing some of your CC – if your game works fine otherwise, your computer is probably just a little overwhelmed. But removing stuff from that lot may also help, yes.
