View Full Version : some cars seem to be fine but don't show up in the catalog

I have a very mysterious problem with some cars: There doesn't seem to be anything unusual with them, but they don't appear in the catalog.

The issue:

I can preview all the cars in SimPe, also checked for any differences to working cars, no success (but I have only limited knowledge about the data stuff, so...).
According to the Categorizer they have a price and right categorisation, everything fine.
But they won't show up in the catalog! No thumbnail to click!
In the loading screen at start-up for the name and description it says only
name:*
description:
like in the pic attached.

I tried unsuccessful:

using another GUID of a car that I know works
copy the catalog descriptions to all languages strings

My game is Uni+Nightlife, english.
The original creator, Vovillia, tests all his cars on 3 different computers with different specs and EPs installed, apparently without encountering this issue. We are completely clueless.
I've attached one of the said cars with Vovis permission for research. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

My ideas:

Someone with no EP beyond NL could pack the car into an empty lot and give me the lot file to see if it will appear in my game.
Anyone could put this car into a collection to see if I can select it that way. -didn't work-

Any help would be much appreciated! :)

PS: At the same time other cars appear in the catalog like they should, so CC and everything is enabled correctly.

This car is set to the Electronics/Misc category, and it did show up in game there. Not sure if you did this or if the original is like this. I looked at it in SimPE, in the OBJD in the catalog tab. I've found the categorizer isn't always accurate. You might want to look at the other cars in SimPE at the category it's in.

Otherwise, jfade has a collection creator you can use to create a collection, find it at his forum. It's based on GUIDs and you can use one of the 100 icons he has included or create your own.

oops, that seems to have been my mistake. I uploaded the original file now. However, it still didn't show up in either category...

I made a collection with the collection maker, but the only car that appeared in it in game was one that worked anyway (I added that after the collection appeared to be empty at first try). Back-checked in the collection maker: All files are included, but the cars still don't appear.
I also compared the catalog section in OBJD - RAW data with a working car and couldn't find anything wrong.

It worked for you and most people obviously, it has to be linked to the game specs. If I only had an idea what could be wrong...

There are two values that help determine game compatibility. Line 0x0001 and 0x0040 (0x0041). The first one has a value of 141 which is either referring to I think AL or FT , at least that is where I've seen it for sure. Change that to 140, then see if that works.

yay, you were right! That made all the difference, now every car works! I couldn't see it because my values were set on hexadecimal...
Thanks very much! I knew I can count on the experts here! :)

Awesome! Glad it works for you. I always switch to decimal, otherwise I have to think too hard. :)
