View Full Version : Freezes and crashes after re install
29th Oct 2009, 12:16 AM
I bought Windows 7 a few days ago and backed up all of my sims 2 data so that I could install windows 7. After I installed the new windows I re installed my game and put all of my content back into the game. Ever since I re installed it ,it keeps crashing and freezing for no reason. When it freezes I can minimize the game and go back into the game and it fixes the problem. I know that all of my custom content is ok because I had the same content in my game before the re install and I had used all of it with no problems. The only thing different this time is that I also installed Apartment Life. I don't know what to do.

In order to better solve your problem, please go through the following as listed below:
General - Do the Game Problem FAQ
You appear to have not gone through our main Game Help:Game Problem FAQ. Please go through and do the steps on this FAQ, including any others that it links to (for example the Game Help:Game Problem-Problem Custom Content FAQ).
Usually, in the vast majority of cases, actually going through and doing the steps (doing, not just reading) fixes issues - sometimes you may be asked to remove custom content, or to patch - please rest assured that all of our FAQs have been tested by our staff and volunteers and we wouldn't suggest you do something unless it's been known to fix particular issues.
General - Post System Specs
We need more information before we can help with your issue. Please post your system specs - instructions on finding them are here: Game Help:System Specs
On occasion you might be asked to do a long FAQ - please make sure you do all the steps and don't just skip over them. You'll often find that these long FAQs have all the details you need. If nothing in the above FAQs fixes your problem you may post again detailing exactly which you have done and which steps failed.

I originally followed the instructions on here to backup my files and then put them back into my game. Once I installed windows 7 I reinstalled all of my games and used the guide to put all of my stuff back into the game. I then went to play the game and when I clicked on a house that I had built myself the game crashed. So I thought it was something in the house and I went to a house that came with the game and had none of my custom content in it and it still crashed. The next few times I went into the game it didn't crash but it froze and if I minimized the game and went back into it, it would fix the problem. So I decided to delete the downloads folder to see if it was something in my custom content but it still froze. I then decided I was going to just completely uninstall the game and reinstall it. So I used a guide on here on how to completely remove the sims 2 from my computer and then I reinstalled the game. Now the game is completely clean, no custom content or anything and it still freezes. I know it can't be my system specs because I am on the same computer that I have been playing it on for years the only thing that has changed was that I now have windows 7 instead of windows xp.

You still need to post system specs. If the problem was due to the operating system upgrade we need to know more about your computer to help.
Also, when you installed Windows 7 did you use and upgrade CD or did you do a total reformat/fresh installation with full OS?
