And if yes, do I have to put them in the base game directory or the World Adventures directory? Thanks.

This is I think quite a complicated issue, the launcher still puts .sim pack items in the same place, i.e. your my documents folder, I have put quite a few items from Lianna and a couple of others which come in that format into the game via the launcher and they work fine. But as to where you put the other mods is another matter. Various site suggest it's OK to put them where we did before, (Program files/electronic arts.sims3/mods/packages), others say they have to be moved to programfiles/electronic arts/WA/mods etc.

I only got WA today so this is by no means definitive but I have tried a few things.

First put my mods in the usual program files/ Electronicarts/sims3 etc, this included hair, makeup, accessories and a limited number of hacks (Solace in sounds money mod, non mosaic, Johna's body sliders all from MTS, and the upgraded super computer and debug enabler from Crazy Town. Everything worked except for the super computer and debug enabler.

So I then moved the mods folder, resource.cfg to the WA folder in program files. Everything but the computer and debug still worked.

next step was to move The d3dx9_31.dll file located in the Sims 3 Game\Bin directory
to the WA Game Bin directory, this time the debug enabler and super computer worked.

(the information for all of this messing about were from Crazy Town and Trif's instructions).

So it seems that general CC can be put in either folder and will work, some mods the same, but other mods have to be moved to WA with the appropriate files. Since Resource.cfg and it seems d3dx9_31.dll appear to have to be moved to WA to get some game mods to work it might mean all mods and cc not in .sims3 format might as well go there as well.

As I say this is a very early impression of how it appears to work, no idea why it seems to be different for some mods, anyway I will be trying out more in the next few days to see if it can work consistently.

As far as I know, all mods stay where they were. I installed the game and only removed my hacks. All my custom content is showing up just fine and the game is running perfectly. I'd say just keep doing like you always have. I haven't moved a thing. And I certainly didn't diddle around with the resource.cfg file.

You are right about the CC, it doesn't seem to matter which folder it is in, it's the hacks and mods which seem more fussy, some seem to work in either, some only in WA. It could of course be that that's the way the modders have upgraded, to work in the WA folder. Which of course creates a lot of confusion about where to put what, if we have to put them in two places.

Well... don't know what happened but I broke the game :D Don't know if it's from mods (traits, pre-made households and much more were MISSING completely)... I think I might have screwed up the install directory too. So, to make sure I don't screw up again, where do I have to install World Adventures? :P

In order to better solve your problem, please go through the following as listed below:

Sims 3 - Blue/Black Missing Lots
This is a known issue with World Adventures and the 1.6 patch.

Currently the only workaround is to only play new towns - towns that didn't exist before you patched or installed WA. Otherwise we just have to wait for EA to fix it.

If you are desperate to play your old saves, then you may be able to do so by backing up all files in My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Saves that end in ".legacy" (such as "riverview.sims3.legacy") - copy them to your desktop - then uninstalling and reinstalling Sims 3 completely. Do not patch to 1.6, and do not install WA. Copy the .legacy files back into Saves, and remove .legacy from the name. Hopefully the towns will then be playable.

There's no reason to change the default installation directory when you install the game. It's possible that some of your cc wont' work with the newest patch and expansion. The game broke a lot of cc.

On occasion you might be asked to do a long FAQ - please make sure you do all the steps and don't just skip over them. You'll often find that these long FAQs have all the details you need. If nothing in the above FAQs fixes your problem you may post again detailing exactly which you have done and which steps failed.

Meh, screw CC, so far except Fresh Prince's cars I haven't seen anything THAT interesting... anyway, what do you mean by default directory? I have the base game installed in:

''D:\GAMES\The Sims 3''

Do I have to install WA in... let's say:

''D:\GAMES\The Sims 3 WA''

Or something like that? Or directly in the base game folder?

I have G:\Games\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 and I have G:\Games\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 World Adventures... that's basically what it would've done if I installed games on my C drive, so that's how I left it.
