Ok his name wasn't spelt like that it had numbers, but there was a sim I never saw before in a newly created file. Does anyone at all ever had a sim with weird names like that? His full name was Cyclone Sword. But with numbers in certain spots. Anyone ever hear of this??

He's just a character. He's in the business or journalism career, I can't exactly remember.
If you have him active you can go to city hall and change his name. I had a sim marry him and I changed his name and got rid of all the numbers.

Huh, I wonder why he has a name like that, it's kinda weird.

You must be new to the sims.

There are tons of premades with their own stories. He's named that because he's a huge gamer geek. He made his screen name his real name.

I'm not new to the sims and I didn't know that. Probably because I have never played the pre-made sims, not even the Goths.

Yeah I see him all the time. The girls in my town are crazy about him :wtf:
But I never understood why his name was Cycl0n3 Sw0rd before!

I always figured that he was a little inside joke put into the game by the creators. You know, kinda like how the Rob Humble sim would walk up to your newly created household in the sims 2 and give them a computer with the new sims 3 game already in it.

The spelling of his name, using numbers for certain letters, is an example of "leet" (or "1337"), a style of spelling which originated in the eighties among some guys who considered themselves "elite hackers" (1337 h4XX0rz). It's still used among geeks and gamers, although generally ironically -- as a way of making fun of the kind of people who spell like that ;) If you hang out on message boards for "hardcore" games, you'll see a lot of it.

If you want to learn to use it, there's a fairly comprehensive guide here, though I think it's debatable how much of what is included in that article is actually part of 1337 as opposed to more general internet slang: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet

By spelling Cycl0n3's name that way, the devs were suggesting that he's a gamer geek, though I think it's kinda funny that the joke is completely lost on a sizable portion of Sims players, since they're often not plugged in to more general gamer culture :)

I got the joke about his name right off because of my brother. A guy bet 1337 in final Jeopardy and while my brother was laughing, I didn't get it, so he explained it to me. I later saw it again in one of the Phoenix Wright games on the DS. There was a guy in the game that only spoke leet. I was annoyed by it, which is why I immediately got rid of Cyclone in my game.

Ugh... leet speak! No need for it. As for Cyclone, at first I thought he was some sort of agent... dunno what kind, just an agent.

For some reason whenever I start a family he is always the first they become friends with. Weird huh?

Ive never understood why people us random numbers - obviously its a gamer thing but still ..

They aren't random. Certain numbers substitute for letters that they resemble: 3 is a turned-around E, 0 is O, etc.

As for why people use em, it's like any other dialect/accent: it's a marker of your social identity. It lets people know something about who you are. No different from using standard spelling and punctuation, which is just as much a choice that reveals social information :)

An note on this, the guy that bet 1,337 is actually friends wiht Fred gallagher, the writer of Megatokyo.

[[Let me know of this is wrong. I thought it was Dom, but I could have my info incorrect.]]

If I would care a dime about sunset valley he would be one of the characters I would save before nuking the rest. I would probably save the Goths, and Bella's family as well. I realy like his name, and would not change it to normal letters, but I was extremely dissapointed how boring he looked-

Legend has it that he was one of the people who got a tour preview of the game in January 2009, and that EA said they could have their names in the game somewhere as an Easter Egg. One of the younger ones chose Cyclone Sw0rd.
Thats what I remember hearing a long time ago, anyway.
How true it is I don't know.

LOL thats just the result of EA being the nerds they are. Its really just a joke. He tends to...cheat, woohoo, and flirt all the time. Wife of cyclone sword:
