View Full Version : Custom water colors- any desires out there?

I just made and uploaded a package that changes the water color from the pic on the left to the pic on the right:

And I figured while I'm at it, I could take a few requests for custom water colors. Darker? Brighter? Greener?
If you can think of one that would have widespread interest(no "bright orange!" or anything, something lots of people would want to have), provide an example picture and I'll see what I can do. :D
Note, however, that asking for "This beautiful blue tropical water from this picture with shallow shores!" won't work very well :p That water is beautiful BECAUSE it is shallow, and changing the color to match that would make everything look awkward- it would be too bright too far from shore. That's the reason this water I just uploaded isn't much brighter than it is.

Maybe you should make brown water. It could look like dirty water. It might not sound very good but there is a lot of apocalyptic neighbourhoods/lots/items (at least there was in the sims 2) and it could help with adding to the overall feel of the neighbourhood if someone is trying to make a grunge/dirty/apocaliptic feel.

Just curious, is this a default replacement, and if so does it affect ALL water?
And I'd say a deep green/blue color might be nice for some islands.

The package is a replacement that affects all water, but I included the files used to make it, which can be used to apply it to individual worlds.
Muddy water is a very good idea, I will probably try that later tonight.

Oh that sounds fabulous. I was worried that it would doom Sunset Valley and Riverview with modified water.
Nevertheless awesome idea. I hope it gets out there.

Oh, thanks! I need muddy water for my world. What a great idea to make the package files. :)

What kind of muddy? Like, fallout 3 muddy, really dark muddy?

I've hit a snag.
You can't adjust the saturation or anything, and even the darkest brown possible shows up as a yellowy color. :\
But I did discover something awesome: If you set a violently different color for each time of day, it will gradually change as the day passes. I am currently trying to build a file that makes the water cycle through a rainbow of colors as the day passes. :D

I wonder if a reddish brown would be better than a yellowish brown? Probably not if you can't change saturation.
Thanks for trying though. :)

Maybe for the Brown you could try a Hue like: #60270A
I tested it with a Bluey White overlay to kinda simulate the effect the sea gives, and stuff, and because of the position on the colour wheel it actually desaturated the colour more to make it more Grey.
Orange is Opposite to Blue, you see ^_^
Maybe that could help? :)
