It appears to be a problem with Internet Explorer, and the fix seems to be resetting IE or the add-ons for IE.
Assuming you are starting the game with the launcher, which uses IE, this could be the source of your issue.
Check the Microsoft website for the fix or solution.

Hey, I posted in your other thread on the discussions forum that got closed...

Over there you said you'd reinstalled the game; has this error mentioned occured on your fresh install?

A quick Google leads me to the same conclusion as werismyki gave earlier. It's an issue with Internet Explorer.

http://thewinforums.com/topic/10892-resolvedie-7-vista-apphangb1/

^^ the guy with a problem there has a similar issue to yours, and fixed it by disabling the add-ons in IE. I suggest you give that a go. Or in theory you could try updating to IE8 (providing you're using IE7 like the guy in that link).

Hope that helps, although credit should go to werismyki, who got the answer first :)

General - Post System Specs
We need more information before we can help with your issue. Please post your system specs - instructions on finding them are here: Game Help:System Specs.

If it is not specifically asked, please provide the Quick summary only.

Sims 3 - EADM Issues
If you encounter issues while downloading Store/Exchange items or when trying to patch or Launcher won't even start, then maybe the issues is not the Launcher but EADM. Please try the suggestions on this FAQ article:

Game Help:EADM Issues

Sims 3 - Uninstall
This Game_Help:TS3_Uninstall link has the step-by-step instructions to guide you through uninstalling The Sims 3, and its packs (EP/SP).

If you're reinstalling because you're reverting to an older patch, or just do not want to use the Launcher/EADM to patch, read this FAQ Game_Help:TS3_Patching once through before patching and then follow the guide.

Have you tried uninstalling IE8 totally and see if Launcher is able to start? Or do you get that error when bypassing Launcher and starting the game with TS3.exe?

Is EADM updated? What version do you have?

Also, Launcher/EADM uses Adobe Flash, Adobe Air, Java; so make sure these applications are also updated.
If you have updated EADM and all those components and the game still cannot be started, have you tried an uninstall and then do a HDD defrag before reinstalling it again?
You only got that error "a few days ago", was that when you patch to 1.12? Or what changed on the computer or game-wise?

Although black screen and crashing points to an outdated driver issue. Has the drivers been updated recently?
