Last names when getting married....

Just a quick question. What decides what last name sims will have when they get married? I just had Stiles McGraw marry one of my own sims Nicole Jones, and their last name was Jones, even though I had Stiles click on her to get married. I know it's an easy fix, but I was just curious.... :bunny: Hey, look, a bunny!

I have no idea anymore...I used to think it was whoever asked them to marry them...but I asked my heir from my legacy to marry the guy (to keep with the name) and her name changed to the guy's.No idea.

Could be random. An RNG roll, maybe? I'm sure Pescado has looked into this. You might want to check MATY if you don't get any answers here.

I thought I saw someone say it is not who starts the wedding but who did the proposing for the engagement.

Do you mean who actually initiates the marriage/ring exchange, or who proposes? I'm quite certain the last name of the Sim that initiates the "Have Wedding" (private or no) command is used.

Well, in my situation, Stiles did the proposing AND initiated the wedding, which is what confused me. Like I said, easy fix (town hall, change last names), but just had me curious. I had even quit without saving and tried it again, still their last name was Jones and not McGraw. Not a big deal, I just have a thing about wondering weird things, lol :D

One or more of Twallan's mods let you rename your sims (SuperComputer), and also set up the structure for naming at knot-tie time(Story Progression? or SuperComputer-- I have most of his mods so I get confused what does what)
I'm gonna let him clear that up though. He seems to be omniscient lately. Watch here he comes...

yeah the naming is really annoying, i had kicked out one of my sims son and let story progression mary or take care of him and when he got a family it read Wozny-Gonzales and now they have two last name. i wish EA fixed this, it should be the guys last name when sims gets married.

EAxis did't "fix" it because as much as there are many who like the "Traditional" approach, there are just as many people who REALLY hate it for various reasons both in-game and in real life. The present solution exists as a compromise, but naturally, compromises never really please anyone.

When EAStory marries off my sims, 99% of the time they get the woman's last name. I've never seen the dash concatenated names. In real life, I've seen the wife take the husband's name, the wife using a dash-concatenated name, and the wife not changing her name at all. I have never seen a single instance where the husband takes the wife's name.
