Many events in ambitions have descriptions that are inferred. Most of these are from traveling to the past, and investigating a drill hole. Things like chasing a white rabbit (Alice in wonderland) and a short guy with an attitude (Napoleon) are pretty obvious, but some are a little more trivial.

One occasion (when investigating a drill hole) says that "(your sim) encountered a helpful warden that steered him away from a monster-ridden cavern"

I didn't think much of it the first time, but the second time made me wonder if it is referring to the TV show Reaper.

In episode 24 the gang is told by the warden of the town to stay away from the caves because there is a monster in it. Does anyone else think this might be what they are referring to?

Could be.

I was telling my boyfriend about this Tiberium I found in game and how it made my sim sick by it being in his inventory. He then pointed out to me that it was part of some story line for a Command & Conquer game. I would never have known cause I've never played it lol

The 'warden' message sounds like a reference to Dragon Age, to me. :) Another EA game. The main character is a member of the Grey Wardens, and there are monsters in underground caverns (darkspawn) that you have to defeat as part of the game.

There's evidently a time travel message referencing Mass Effect, too, about a Shepard saving the universe from something or another. ;) Just some clever cross-promotion, I reckon. I love both games, btw - Dragon Age & Mass Effect 1 & 2 are excellent, if you like RPGs heavy on story & choice.

The warden thing seems to be coincidence for me. While having a scientific career, my sim got a mission to investigate Tiberium, the company name, which requested it was... Northern Operational Development. Or NOD for short. After completing the mission, my sim "had a chance to handshake with some really important person, Mr. Kane." I laughed hard at this. Also, I wonder if the photo on inventor's workshop isn't depicting a scientist from Half-Life (daddy of Alex?). Seems to be impossible, since both games are from different companies (Valve/EA), but resemblance simply *is* there.
