...main culprit seems to be Store Edition, EP99 folder, specifically. More on that after I explain that, yes, I've really tried everything else already, to no avail.
The most recent 'Bodyshop.exe' seems to be in the SP4 folder, which I believe is Celebration stuff, though I've tried all others. The exe within the basegame folder crashes immediately, as expected, but others start and then immediately disappear from Task Manager with no error message. There is no 'Bodyshop.exe' in the usual spot within Store Edition's EP99 folder.
I've removed common problem folders such as 'Downloads' and it hasn't worked. I've deleted problem files such as .caches and...groups.ini?
I've followed all the troubleshooting steps I could find and it just doesn't work.
Now for the fun part: I actually got it working!...sort of! I removed the entirety of the EP99 folder from the sims program folder to my desktop and both 'Bodyshop.exe's from SP4/Celebration Stuff and EP2/Nightlife start up and load all content, even custom content. The problem is that all preview material shows up as a flat pink blob in the shape of the mesh, including the Sim and all generated thumbnails. Strangely enough, I exported a skin, modified it, imported it under these conditions and the skin worked fine in-game.
Sooo...I put EP99 back, and removed folders from within it to see if I could narrow down what was causing problems and couldn't get it running again even with the EP99 folder completely empty. My best guess would be that somehow Bodyshop doesn't play well with four-character folder references, but I really don't know.
Does anyone have any clue how I could solve the pink blob problem? Moving or re-naming EP99 gives Bodyshop half-functionality, but the main game won't run without it, so I can't really do anything to pull it permanently.
What a pain though. I have experience with Poser stuff and none of that was ever half as exasperating as the problems I've had with this game.
