Hey, everybody, great houses! I love them all! I'm with GivetheNineARide - I want to try all the foundations, too. So to that end here is my almost-ran entry for Round 2.
Ray and Annie were recently married and decided to move to the semi-tropics of Florida. Ray loves sports and Annie is an econut. They need a home to suit both of them and with room to grow, as they both want children. They found a home they could afford 110,631 furnished and 44,563 unfurnished (thanks to the freerealestate cheat). Here is their tropical retreat.

Forgot to take floor plan shots - the house has a kitchen/dining area, living room, front porch, side porch and back porch, small laundry area and bathroom on the first floor. Master bedroom with ensuite bath, nursery another bathroom, an office area and air hockey on the second floor, the last overlooking the palm planters.
I managed to keep the CC down to 4 items this time, 2 plants (EA's plants just don't cover my decorating needs), a toy giraffe and the versatile shelf upright #4 (I love the versatile shelf system and use them to death!) Thanks to my fellow MTS creators - none of my homes would be possible without your wonderful build and buy downloads. You guys rock!
Okay had to reedit a few times - hope the pictures work now!

So I missed the first round, built a house, went to submit it on day 4 and saw that it was closed. To make matter worse, I built one for round two only to find out you had to be in the first round to enter the second.
I've never uploaded a lot to MTS but I feel I stood a very good chance in this contest. Please look at my work and give me some feedback by comment or PM, I would love to hear what everyone thinks.

ocsvb07, Great job! I love the support beams, the wrap-around pool and the red kitchen. The concrete bunker thing, less so. The floor plan looks nice and playable, too.

GiveTheNineaRide,I LOVE that house. That's actually a house I would download a play. The only thing I don't like, and this is just my personal preference,is I'd want more color throughout the house. I'm just picky about what I put in my game though,I guess. But I do really like that style.

GiveTheNineARide-Love your house! I painted my real door a nice pretty red like that. You actually gave me an idea about what color to paint my porch posts, right now they are like a celery green(I didn't pick that color).I wasn't real sure about the color at first, but it grew on me. Glad I could help. :)

I understand about the colors. I sometimes like a house I see, but cringe from the color choices. If I really like the house though I download and start recoloring. I like the colors to be calming and subtle. To each his own, I guess. :Pint:

Agree with you 100%. I download some of the great houses here and look through them to learn from them. Then I think it is perfect for this or that Sim family - oh, but this room should be a different color, that rug needs a different pattern, there is a sofa in the catalog that suits me better. Actually, we probably all set our Sims up with our own tastes, whether they like it or not! Nothing nicer than your Sim going through their new domicile and cursing and foot-stomping over one of your choices!

I am completely unable to decide which of these I like better..with a sauna, or with the new pool I added. Can anyone give input? Thanks! (Oh, and the one with the sauna is my current submission.)
Edit: Nevermind. My friend has a point. What is a beach house without a pool?
Eek! More picture taking...I hope I don't change my mind another fifty times.

Just come to complain about stupid ceiling tiles that show up all over my garden, now I have to re-make my house from my last save in the bin. And when I see all those beautiful houses that have already been uploaded I feel like crying.
Anyways I don't feel better after complaining but Good luck everyone and have fun.

I agree Kaospilot. I keep going back and looking at my house, seeing if there is anything I could change to make it better or more authentic or just more WOW. I even dreamed about this contest last night. Won't tell you who won but the house was fantastic! (Although, I am pretty sure if I attempted it, it wouldn't fit on the foundation). I also had a completely different idea that was incredibly adorable but, upon waking, can't quite remember it. I almost feel like a week and a half is too long! I keep second guessing myself.
PS angelicangel13- I love your garden most especially! :)

@Angelicangel13: I love your house, the colours and everything. Can't see the kitchen, though. I think you double-posted the picture with the dining room. How's the bedroom looking, btw?
@Kaospilot: I'm working on a modern house - for me it's the first time (usually I prefer the "fairy-like" cottages style) and so I'm very unsure if it's okay the way it is. Since you say you're "pretty much done" I'm wondering if you have posted your pictures for round 2 yet? I'm asking because I think I read comments from people that they liked your entry for round 2 - and I searched for it but coudn't find it. Any chance to get a link to your post for round 2? (ps: I very much love your house for round 1!!! )
@all: Is it just me or do you also sometimes have thoughts like "nah, you can't place the kitchen here with only an archway instead of a proper door because the whole livingroom will smell of food at dinner time" when you try to figure out how the floorplan of the house would look best ... ? :faceslap:

Haha. It's funny though because it seems maybe 1/3 of the 70 contestants have finished or even started. When are the remaining ones going to do it! But it always helps going back to look at it after a while as the imagine isn't as stuck in your head then.

Aw thank you. I posted a collage picture thing of my house in progress as.. that's what you do in this thread, feedback etc. But I managed to delete it by accident when tidying up a bit on my server. Haven't posted it yet. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and have spent hours today trying to come up with a nice frame, font and layout for the pictures
I also prefer to make cottages or cute little things but the fun about this challenge is that you can't decide fully how the shape of the house is going to be and are therefore you are forced to either make your comfort theme work or try another one. It's great. Also when you work on an idea outside of your comfort zone you usually come up with great ideas as there is nothing previously there to influence you ;)
And the archway/kitchen smell thing.. I do that too! Like "oh can't have the tv that close to the children's rooms doors because it will be noise at night when they sleep and the adult are up watching tv" (when did it even happen like that?) or make sure the bed isn't placed wall-to-wall to the childrens bedroom. Ahem

I have one or two 'loves' on my house entry for round 2, and one 'disagree' - what is making my mind whirl is, what is the person 'disagreeing' with? If someone doesn't like someone's house, why don't they just say so, instead of 'disagree'. Disagree seems so ambiguous. It's as if the poster is disagreeing with the existence of the post ..

I know. Why would someone do that :/ It just seems a bit rude to me. If they dislike something then surely its better to just say what could improve or something. Or maybe someone missclicked it.

I agree fairycake. I have a disagree too and I am not sure if it is to the house or to the CC used (which there wasn't, just some store stuff) or the fact that I mentioned the house is playable. :wtf:
OMG, I want points!!! And I agree about the clutter. I saw a very nice clock I want, perfect for a mantle piece. I've thought about buying stuff but really? I can probably find similar stuff as CC, just not use it in this challenge. If they were given to me from EA though; totally different story!!! I'm jealous!

Maybe I missed something, but I couldn't tell where the 3rd little square of foundation was in the front though.
I think that foundation is making most people go modern because of the shape. Very frustrating for me. I always struggle with modern design, but I can't make it work with anything else.

I threw out my original idea of a Japanese home because the store is BORKED for Windows 7 downloads and I can't get my stufz.. Sooo.. I bounced those plans off the wall and decided to do a Sculptor's abode. a 'different' kind of modernish building. ;0) My character - (not sure of the name yet) Ildefanzo Chisler has inspiration that take hold of him at odd moments. He has to hurry to his sculpture annex and get busy. To help him get downstairs in a hurry, he has installed a fireman's pole that takes him right to the sculpture station. lol
I wasted a day remembering how to use constrain floor tools and borked the house so I started over and made straight line stairs. the house has an interesting roof line and some unexpected 'features' that I won't give away until I post it. lol (Mainly because I'm still working on it.)
In the MEANTIME, I stuck Sims3 base on a Vista machine and was able to download most of my junk. Don't know yet if the zen set came through. I may make 2 houses. lol...
Hey, HP! Since round 1 is closed, can we upload that lot here now or do we need to wait till the contest is closed?

@fairycake89 & heaven_sent_8_18: I love the houses of both of you very much. I haven't left many comments these days because I've been so busy with building my own house and with keeping up with new messages. Forget the "disagree" - it doesn't count anyway. But I agree with Kaospilot that it's kinda rude. Constructive criticism helps us to improve our skills. To say nothing at all isn't very helpful.

GiveTheNineARide-Thank you. The foundation piece is still there it's just that the rock is covering it. I would have like to go with the taller thinner rock but it was a bit to tall. I know what you mean about the foundation. I can't wait to see what you come up with. I loved your first one. I don't build a whole lot and if I do I tend to do very typical homes, easy not to much work. That's why I like entering these contests.

Thank you.
No, that's Sunset Valley on Pinochle (by the military base). It didn't have any homes on it, but it had a lot of empty lots. I put a few bin houses there and added a few of my own. Luckily, this great spot was still open without having to move others to the bin (though that might have made taking pictures easier).

Absolutely true - I've got a few from the store and the EPs, but most of them don't fit the windows nicely - too narrow, too wide, too short, mounted at the ceiling but reach only to counterheight. Even tried some from another site, but they don't fit better or the ones that do have sucky textures that do not recolor well.
Isn't the bedroom upstairs? And if no one can see in, why cover that gorgeous view? Love the house -good luck!

Kaospilot I love your round 2 entry. Stunning modern design. You're very good with CFE. I especially like how you incorporated the bath in the front into the layout.
Good luck in the contest, from looking at the entries so far it looks like everyone has stepped it up a notch for round 2.

I think the hardest part of not using any custom content is the windows. Lets face it, the ones EA provide are pretty useless. They have some nice windows..but not whole sets and it REALLY bugs me BADLY when windows don't match. When I'm building for myself I never even use any ea windows. I only really use one set that I got from einfach simlish and I use them in pretty much every house I build because there's one for every situation and some!
Anyway, windows aside, everyone's entries are looking fantastic. We really have so much talent here its amazing. Good Luck All!

Couldn't agree more. I could live without all other CC, just give me doors and windows and I'm happy :D and even though deep down I know matchy matchy isn't very creative, my default setting is still to match everthing up, I really have to grit my teeth when I'm left with no choice but to mix styles. Some people manage to pull it off really well but I always feel awkward about doing it (My current R2 house is causing me to grit my teeth, lol)
Those Einfach simlish sets are one of my favs as well but if one of their major appeals for you is the fact that there's "one for any situation" then you should definitely check out the classical set by Madaya on TSR (free) which also has windows in every size and tile width imaginable and unlike the Einfach Simlish ones they have full colour channels. The only downside is the fact that you can't upload them with houses here because they come from TSR (hence my signature)

Speaking of CCs, I agree about doors and windows, but how about lighting units? Especially ceiling ones. Modern ceiling ones. There's that square glass ones with the metal or whatever stripe, and that's it! That's why I love DOT's recessed ceiling lights. EA should've given us that at least, recessed ceiling lights are very common in real life, versatile, and goes with just about anything. Maybe a basic fluorescent tube-type lights. Or basic round ceiling lights that's not too elaborate and not protrude so much. But nooo, they decided to give us unique, elaborate ones that are beautiful on its own, but only go with certain themes/situations only.
I'm still waiting for a good tall modern chandeliers that go down pretty far, half a level maybe, for those 2-storey ceiling rooms. Man, if I could make custom objects on my own that's what I would built. But maybe it's just not possible to make such chandeliers, eh?

Speaking of.... the other day when I was doing my R1 house I was looking in my catalogue for a long drop chandelier for my two storey living room but couldn't find it... That's my main feelings too! I really love the "complete a set" windows that are done and the ones that center a one-tile window on two tiles. I also like good fitting curtains and the stencil removal options (like Haru has done). Then, I also like the options to recolor the plants and to place then on surfaces. My main download though is hairstyles converted for kids and toddlers.
So, I am basically happy with EA items. I just want them to have more options. Does that make sense? For instance one pull-down blind that fits into the wall makes it easier to use for different window shapes, so that one download goes a long ways. I also like when two-tile curtains are made into one-tile ones and vice versa. I like the two-tile really short ruffled curtain (see my dining room shot in round 2) and tend to use it with other curtains to help cover up more window or hide the alignment if needed. That would be nice to have as a one-tile option as well.
link to curtain shot: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?p=3257132#post3257132
I'll also combine the blinds with the decorative curtains because the decorative curtains look nice, but they don't give one privacy. See the living room I did in round 1 to see what you think. (It's not as good as using the Ambitions curtains which look like they can close, but the decorative ones sit lower and center on a one-tile window better, I think, so I like them with these windows.)

I do agree that finding the right light option is also a real challenge. EA tends to make lights that "stick out" rather than unobtrusively providing light. And, why can't they offer a no-design option or a designable option to those glass panels in the doors as well as the lights?

I love using these: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=379847. Usually gives enough light without being too bright and if you use a single one to highlight a picture or something it looks nice.
Also if you use the debug buymode (and got WA, I think it's required atleast) there is options for 'lights' that you can place in your house anywhere with different sizes (1x1 tiles, 1x3 tiles so on) both wall and ceiling ones. Usually find them useful when I can't find any fitting lamps to give the light I'm looking for :)

Cheers. Someone tipped about the Nvidia thing in the Latest freebies at Sims store (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=397723&c=1&ht=&page=1&pp=50#startcomments) thread, which is nice to just follow anyway!I'm checking this thread every now and then but missed this one. Got my sim points half an hour ago (and spent them right away *lol*) - bought some more decoration items for the house(s).
I can do both because I'm a forum ehm, whore. I post on 5 different forums :) It's a sort of bad habit.Yeah, I know what you mean. I used to spend a lot of time in different forums or with mailing lists (with hundreds of messages each day) - it's difficult to keep up with everything AND to have a full time job - my time at the computer is limited and so I've chosen to spend that limited time with creating stuff for sims3 (or just play). Reading and writing in english takes me too long since it's not my first language.

I only discovered buy debug mode a couple of weeks ago and have so far found those lights to be invaluable. They're completely invisible in live mode but if you'd looked at my R1 house in buy or build mode you would barely see the house for all the white squares  They're especially good when it comes to split levelling or two storey rooms - I hate that you can see the join because the light levels are different on each level. Just put on moveobjects cheat and you can position these lights to reflect on the bits that need extra light. They're also good for taking pics for things like this because you can have a room with small windows and a dark colour scheme and it will still be light enough to see what's in the room (I've always hated the way rooms get lit up (or don't) in TS3.

I've really missed being able to use 'clutter' in my entries too. I would say over 70% of my downloaded CC is clutter. I have just about every bit of clutter from Around-The-Sims and a dozen other sites, as well as scores of interior flowers and plants, all of which give a really nice finishing touch to rooms, IMO. I was itching to put a pair of slippers on the floor by the bed in the bedroom and a coffee mug on the table in the lounge but resisted the urge as I was determined not to use any CC.

Wow, thank you. That is quite a compliment. I tried to keep the color scheme to the surrounding landscaping: gray of the rock (but with subtle yellow/creme color and brown veins, the medium wood tones of tree trunks, the green of the trees and bushes, and the yellow of the flowers, shrubs, and rocks. There was also a hit of red in shrubs and rocks too. I stretched it a bit by adding in the light blue of sky. Any way, thanks again for the compliment and the smile it brought with it.

PAUL'S VILLA
30 x 30 lot / Foundation 2
He became famous for what... eating sea shells out of a box? Well, he did so very successfully. Neither for the Dutch - obviously - nor for the Germans, but at least for the Spanish.
Anyway, the Spanish built him a house where he could live for the rest of his short life. It's very close to the sea and has an outdoor swimmingpool... seems perfect for an Octopus, doesn't it?
Nah, the Germans wouldn't let Paul have a nice living in Spain. Might be because the Spanish are known for their (very yummy) Paella... :giggler:
Now, we have a house to sell, so open your purses and wallets to see if you can afford it:
Lot Price Furnished: 109005 $ / Unfurnished: 63683 $
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/8527/pauls01.jpg
The house has a wonderful big livingroom with lots of daylight - the perfect place for an Artist. There's also a small TV room which can also be used as a winter garden or reading room, the bedroom is right next to it. The house has two bathrooms, one of them is also used as laundry. The kitchen is not too big and has a table for four people. Currently there's no fish in the fridge - we didn't want to offend Paul by serving some of his friends for dinner...

http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/4959/pauls06.jpg
The roof deck of the house offers a gorgeous view over the bay. You can either relax in a deck chair or dance with your friends. There's also an outdoor grill, however, for vegetables only (of course)!
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/1457/pauls07.jpg

I agree with what HP said earlier though; it is so nice to hear feedback and see everyone supporting everyone else. I don't want to get penalized if it gets uploaded. Maybe they will require more changes and I can postpone and ask for time? (Only time/circumstance I will ever want something besides an approval.) Except maybe for not following the rules - do we actually have an official rule on that one?
To continue the discussion from the official thread, I personally think a round-robin style contest would be AMAZING! I'd do it in TS2, because the longer I participate in this contest, the more I realize why I haven't switched to TS3 (the lagging drives me crazy - it's nearly impossible to do anything with). The contest has at least made me come to terms with the fact I just don't have the money to make TS3 run the way my TS2 runs.
Also, *shameless self-advertising* I completed a community lot in TS2 on Round 2's foundation that I'm extraordinarily proud of (if you've been in the #create live chat room the last few nights, you might have caught glimpses of me bashing my head into my desk over it). I don't believe that there's an official rule on it, hence why I said what I did. However, there is something mentioned about it somewhere. I don't remember, though. I can understand why they'd want it to be kept out until judging is over. That way, it can only be seen through the pictures and thus that's only what it can be judged on, not on seeing the actual house and playing through it.

In the first post it's said "....you may use pay items for this contest. Of course, if you would like to upload your house to MTS when the contest is over, make sure you use all free stuff!"
It's not said "when each round is over", however, there's another post from HP which I can't find at the moment.
I'd love to see all your houses uploaded here - actually I do not download many houses because I usually build my own houses for the game, however, I've seen many houses I'd love to have installed to my game. So many wonderful creations - and even though they're all using the same foundations their look is very different.
I love the upstairs eating area. Great house!Thank you. I'd love to have something like that in real life. My apartment, however, doesn't even have a small balcony.

Thank you for the compliment. :bunny: I think I tried all different roof styles and colours and at the end I gave up on trying to create something special - I'm not completely happy with that simple roofing and seeing some other people's solution for it really left me speechless. The creativity of some others really amazes me.

It's always interesting to hear what other people think. I'm surprised that you and Ciane like the roof so much.
I'm yet to spend my point until I see some decorations that I want badly. Need more plants! Luckily I got a job where I can post without anyone bothering, so it's okay.Alas! We're not even allowed to privately use the internet.
And yes, it's good to have alot of plants to chose from. I hated to use the same plants in every room when only the base game was out. In the meantime I don't even need cc plants to get a house nicely decorated. However, its quite pricey to buy them all seperately from the shop. Maybe they'll offer some of the plant as a "daily deal" item?
:!: I very much enjoy looking at all the wonderful creations here and in the official foundations thread. May I ask each creator to post links to their creations (for each round) ? It's starting to get difficult to keep up and not mix up all entries. Also, scrolling though the threads takes quite some time without knowing the number of the post.

Not to mention, they aren't very helpful/downloader friendly at the Store. Their previews are ghastly. Hair previews show only a chin up, 3/4 profile view, curtains and the like only show the actual item (not on a window). I wasted my 1,000 registration points on hair when I saw the lack of original selection. When going into the game, I was extremely disappointed at how they actually looked and, according to customer service (an oxymoron if I ever heard one), I am SOL. When viewing you have no idea of the size of the item or an in game shot. MTS has made me a very spoiled and very picky downloader. From now on, I am looking for everything on here!

Oh and signatures take about 5 minutes before they show up (if you edited them)... unless one *points to herself* hadn't ticked the "show signatures" field in options and also needs a while to realise that no signatures show up in threads. Oh well...

@LifesLover & heaven_sent_8_18: What do you mean by "can't save" the signature? While editing it or when you post a message?
Your signature won't show up in your messages unless you tick the box to display your signature when you are creating a new message or answering to one - also ticking the box in the site options to show signatures might be helpful (I forgot to do that at first).
Hope that helps to solve your problem.
No, I've done all of that. This isn't the first time I've been in a forum, so I've tried all that I can think of to get it to work. But, I'll try again. Maybe this time it'll stick. I'm also unable to receive e-mail notification on any threads I'm subscribed to, which makes it hard to keep track of them. I don't know why it doesn't work, since I have the option ticked in the options tab, but whenever I go to subscribe to a thread, it shows either don't subscribe or no e-mail notification. Oh, look, it's working. That's good.
Oh, thanks for the list, Kaospilot! It's great to see everyone's work now.

Hi everyone! I need help getting the pictures to show larger. Photobucket only will show the pics up to 640x480 and I can't understand how to post pictures with Flickr. I see some posts with the pictures smaller, but allows clicking the picture to get a larger picture. Can someone help me with that? Thank you in advance.

Try Imageshack. But rember to click "Upload Options / Resizing >>" and choose do not resize
You then get different options like thumbnail, direct link to fullsize etc

I couldn't get the true size of the pictures to come up with photobucket, although I didn't open the pictures in a separate window, just copied the url from the first page. When I checked the size with edit, it showed them as 640x480. Use to be able to change that in settings, but I guessed you have to buy the PRO package.
I don't usually join contests, cause I am not proficient in photoshopping or editing pictures. So my pictures are too boring. LOL!

@Lewisb40: I'm not sure great skills in photoshopping will be an advantage in this or other MTS contest... We're specifically warned that this isn't a photoshopping contest. Plain old boring screenshots ought to do just fine, I think, as long as the home itself is good! :P
I didn't touch my screenshots at all with photoshop. And I'm fairly good at it. Photoshop, I mean. Could be better at actually making the home itself though!
I myself never participated in any contest before this one, or upload houses here to MTS, because of another reason: I'm a CC addict! :P All my houses are full of them, so they're practically un-uploadable.

i dont use photoshop either, lol MS Paint and thats only to resize them. I do think that over shopped photo's take away from a house, my personal tastes are I prefer an unboardered, un lense glared, un touched picture to show a house. I really dont like when showing the different levels the ground around the home is blurred, I dont mind the lower level(s) being blurred but I dont mind a top down view of the ground around the house, actually prefer it so I can see what landscaping/yard work has been done... lol now i sound like a photo snob
BGatot, I've just recently started to competing in contests too, I've done two on The Sim Supply, and this is my first on MTS. I upload houses on occasion to this site but I get overly anxious about it and tend to only post one every blue moon. I think its cause my homes lean towards the simple side..

You've got a really professionally presented and great looking entry, Kaospilot - the house style, colour scheme and decor is spot on -I particularly like the light wood colour, which unites the exteriors with the interiors and looks organic (love wood in moderns) and how well you've used these deep colours/patterns in the various rooms - it's really lovely, I reckon it's going to be a high scorer :bunny:

Yeah, I think that's what's surprised me most about this; the range of house types that people have come up with is incredible. I didn't expect castles, power stations, fire stations etc. I think the inability to use CC has forced people to really stretch their imaginations to try to make their houses stand out. I love it!
Thanks but I'm not even sure if I still have the Up house. It might've been in one of the neighbourhoods I lost to blue lot syndrome a few months back before I discovered Delphy's mods. I'll let you off with the critic since I'm not even finished with it anyway ;)

I need to go through the round 2 thread again. Over the weekend I got online at some friends house and kind skimmed a page or two that I'd missed since Friday and seen someone had done like an a-frame style house. I ADORE those. I want a look again since I'm not in a hurry lol

Hi, just a question
Missroxor said to me that my entry has too pics (9).
She say that we're allowed to have only 8 images.
However I still have some doubts..
I posted: 1 pic of the front, 1 of the living area, 1 of the bathroom, 1 of the kitchen, 1 of the bedroom and a floor plan. Six pics (pics that everyone must have, right?)+ 3 other bonus pics = 9 pics..
Why we can post 3 bonus pics if the limit is 9? The "basic" pics are the canonic six... nobody can have all the bonus pics without penality..
StarboardParoxysm
27th Jul 2010, 8:46 AM
Street view = 1
Living Room = 1
Kitchen = 1
Bedroom = 1
Floor plans = at LEAST 1.
Bonus pics = 3
So if you do all 3 bonus pics (you don't HAVE to!) then the minimum is 8. If you have multiple floors (and thus multiple floor plan images, which you don't collage together) you can have more than 8.

Yea it's awesome! I would have platinumed it about 4 times now (if that was possible ) and also done all of it on the computer once. I remember someone saying that there are some houses here that look just like the ones in Point Lookout! Actually I think most of Twinbrook does.
What platform have you played it on?

I updated the list again because I am lame and have no life (I'm also bored at work) -> Clicky (http://www.modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3259494&postcount=352). 15 to go!

Just the XBox. Never played video games (besides Sims) until I got married and then my husband hooked me on that one. I just love the open ended story. Do whatever, go wherever; kind of like Sims without the building and with guns and mutants. :giggler: He just got me the GotY edition so I haven't been anywhere except Anchorage. Needed that stealth armor. I've been thinking of pulling it back out for a couple of days and this convo definitely has me staring into the living room!
By the way, I am so ready for judging. So nervous for this round because every time I log on here, there is yet another fabulous entry.

Also the theme of it, 1950s style looks cool. And I love the posters and vault-tec "rules". And the music!
Point lookout was the best of the packs I think and you should try it. You will instantly think of Twinbrook  And when you do all the achievements/trophies there are so many things you didn't know was there like unmarked quests and so on. Just hope New Vegas has fixed all those little glitches that F3 has.

I normally don't play anything but the sims but about a week ago I saw the advert for New Vegas and said to my husband that even though I'm not normally a shoot em up sort of gamer, that looked like fun. He pointed out that we have one on the shelf (Fallout 3 I think) that I should attempt before thinking about shelling out a small fortune for a new PS3 game I'll never play....Sure I would prove him wrong I set up the game and got started but I spent about 45mins adjusting the facial features and hair of my character, lol. I got really pissed off 'cause the character graphics weren't as good as the sims and about 90% of the hairstyles available were really messy and manly. Once I'd spent 45 mins muttering to myself about how the sims was infinitely better I realised that perhaps I was too deep into simming to ever really appreciate another game.

After saving as a jpeg it changes? How weird, never come across that (not that I'm a photoshop guru  ) Possibly adjust the levels before saving so it's a little lighter than needed then when it goes darker it shouldn't be too dark? Though, I'm sure someone has a more logical answer ;)
Edit: just had a look, your pics seem fine to me. Living room, kitchen and boys room are a teensy bit dark compared to the others but that's probably just 'cause they're darker colour schemes, I think the actuall levels are ok.

All this talk of Fallout makes me want to change my avatar too...
I love Fallout as well. Just soo atmospheric. When I played too much sometimes I felt a bit depressed from all the dirty, rundown environment! Makes me want to scrub clean something. And I'm somewhat of a slob! :P
Missroxor, the character creation in Fallout 3 is rather limited. No matter how you adjust your character ends up rather alike, no matter whether he/she was a caucasian, an asian, latino, black... The preview is awful too, you might end up with something quite unexpected once you came out of the fault and can see your character clearly!
Ive

Thanks missroxor. I'll just leave them then.
I wish playing Fallout would make me want to clean too  I did get a feel like "Oh I could have made this Tenpenny tower look so much more clean than it is" ...
But missroxor you should try it and see if you like it. It was a game I played way before I actually started liking shooters purely because of the story. And the face doesn't matter as you barely get to see it anyway!
Boo, want to play it now :( My boyfriend goes nuts from it because of GNR. "This is Three-dog, auuuu! Providing you the truth, no matter how bad it hurts"

BGatot - I actually made a mod for Rivet City that removed all the random papers in the hallways and picked up the junk cluttering the halls. If it's been continuously inhabited for at least 20 years, you'd think they could have at least picked up the random busted crap laying around.

So all that tweaking for nothing, huh? Well, If I ever get off my ass and finish this rounds entry I might give it another go. Can't see me starting to like shooty games though, I'm quite pathetic in that I sh*t myself when zombies or aliens or even the dogs from the very first tomb raider jump out at you. I actually find it stressful, I'm sure if I was hooked up to heart rate monitor while playing those sorts of games it would be going crazy  ...but everyone (inc my husband) keeps saying Fallout is different so yeah, I might have another go ;)

I usually don't like shooters either, missroxor, but with Fallout, you can play as a stealthy character - just get really good with the sniper rifle, and you never have to worry about anything getting anywhere near you again. Or, well, every once in a while it may happen, but that's what shotguns are for. :D
Ive
27th Jul 2010, 3:43 PM
Remember that when you get the gun you can enter V.A.T.S and target parts that you shoot after you exit it. So it's not like you really have to aim yourself and if you meet multiple things you kill them easily :)
Sneaky character works too. Full speech, lockpick, science and sneak are the best perks imo. That way you can usually avoid a lot of enemies and get access to things that will help

The first time I played this I snuck into the Springvale school immediately after escaping the vault. Damn Raiders scared me so bad I ran and ran, crossed the Potomac and ended up in Big Town. So I know exactly what you mean. My husband makes fun of me (and hates watching me play) because I play stealthy. He swears if it were RL, I would have the strongest thighs of anyone alive. And yes the music rocks! When I have it on that is. Radio makes sneaking less stealthy. :(
Oh Three Dog: "Revolution, vacation, somebody fart?"

So I'll definitely be taking the stealthy option. I played a PS3 game with my husband, I think it was called Black. He just throws a grenade and sprints right into the middle of the fight and starts shooting the crap out of people while I hid behind the wall occassionally attempting pot shots
What's V.A.T.S.?
Edit: It might've been Medal of Honor, they're all the same to me. ;)
Ive
27th Jul 2010, 4:16 PM
You'll see when you get to the part in the beginning where you have to shoot some bugs :) It's tab button on the PC (I think) or R1 on the PS3, not sure about Xbox. It's a targeting system
I think Black is on the PS2. At least that's where I have played it ;)
heaven
27th Jul 2010, 4:18 PM
Missroxor - I feel the same way: Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Black Ops, whatever. I only like Fallout because it is completely open. There is a main quest but you can do it whenever and complete it in a multitude of ways. And my husband plays the same way. Just charges in and shoots until no one is left standing. He doesn't even use V.A.T.S in Fallout. Which, by the way, is a targeting system...enter V.A.T.S mode (which basically pauses the game) and decide which area you want to target; head, leg, arm, torso and use action points to aim. When you have lined up your shots, you exit and the game picks right back up with you shooting your target. If it weren't for V.A.T.S I would be screwed.
Does anyone else adopt Dogmeat and then lock him in your house for fear of him getting killed?
Ive
27th Jul 2010, 4:22 PM
Can't you just spawn a new one? Never had Dogmeat. I always get that stupid woman from The Citadel who just shoots at everything hostile (even far away) and dies right away

Yeah, could still be either one it was about 2 years ago... I think we only got the PS3 bout a year and a half ago. Whichever one has two player mode...not that it matters anyway, lol. The Clinic
In the summer of 1976 in the small, sleepy town of Twinbrook lived a jovial young man named Sidney Reeves. In this town Sidney wasn’t just any man, he was Dr Sid, and he was much loved by all one hundred and twelve of his patients. Dr Sid was the senior doctor in the town’s only clinic where he worked alongside his protégé Dr Alvin Forks....
MissRoxor,
Just a quick note to say that I LOVE your lot - the theme, the building and the interiors are brilliant. Well this foundation was quite a challenge. Like most others I went with Modern. Mostly because of the 3 little pieces of foundation in the front. It's been interesting to see how each person has worked with those.
My house is a 2 bedroom 3 1/2 bath Ultra Modern Beach House. I love to look at modern design houses, but struggle to build them.
The main level of this house has a living room, kitchen, den, and a half bath. The kitchen has counter seating for 5. There is a desk, chair and computer below the split level stairs. The living room has a stereo, bookcase and a fireplace. The den has a TV, game system, guitar, and a bookcase. The upper level has 2 bedrooms, 3 baths and a laundry room. Both bedrooms have a double bed, dresser, hamper, bookcase, chair, and it's own bath. There is also a guest bath and a door to a large outdoor party deck that has a bar, stereo, lounge chairs and a telescope.
Outside is a pool area, grilling area and a single car garage, with parking for up to 3 more cars in the driveway. The exterior of the house is tile and stucco. I used 5 pieces of CC for this house. The awning over the front entrance, the glass block window, the window used in the skylight, a half-wall and the glass cover over the deck.
On to the pics . . .

I'm not officially in the contest, but HP mentioned that there will be I think an honorable mention for the user's choice. I'm supposed to post here in the chat thread since I'm not a contestant. By pushing the agree under the post you can vote for a house to be the user's choice. I would have loved to be in the contest, but I build too slow to have made the cut in the first round.

I'm going to count up the ones for Round 1 shortly, after I get the judging sheets for round 2 done - I know I'd said I'd do so sooner, but I figured I'd give it a little extra time since the chat thread is meant to be more informal and less deadliney, and to give more people a chance to vote. I'll do the round 2 ones after a couple days - give people time to vote on any recentish ones, or any new ones that people want to post. :)

The Front View (http://www.flickr.com/photos/52177032@N04/4839804239/sizes/l/)
The Lyndells were quite a family. They came from wealth and once lived in a city, bigger than even that of Sunset Valley, and ran an upscale club. After a while, though, Cori and Gregory, who owned and maintained the place, had a child. After all the things that had happened in the city during little Ellen's first few years, they no longer wanted to stay there - among other things, the middle and high schools' ratings there were reaching an all-time low. When someone bought their club, the three arranged to move to the beaches of Sunset Valley and got a house built over there, though it was built quite peculiarly with the couples' intent of making it a sort of party venue in the future. All the photos, though, were taken when there wasn't a party going on.
Ground Floor Plan (http://www.flickr.com/photos/52177032@N04/4839804097/sizes/l/)
Second Floor Plan (http://www.flickr.com/photos/52177032@N04/4840416290/sizes/l/)
The house used a lot of overhead lighting; they didn't want to take too much space on the floor.
"Living Room" (http://www.flickr.com/photos/52177032@N04/4839804581/sizes/l/)
This house does not have a living room in the traditional terms; the functions of one are spread throughout the house, but this is a sort of 'coverall' area, hence its being chosen for this picture.
The room you enter right when you go in the house is not a traditional living room; there really isn't one in this house. The dining area is in the corner nearest the separate-room kitchen. The drawer is where those using the pool out back would put their clothes so they don't lay about; the curtains on the bedroom doors would be let down when a lot of visitors stopped by, as a sort of 'do not enter' sign.
Kitchen (http://www.flickr.com/photos/52177032@N04/4839803777/sizes/l/)
The kitchen that was built was small, but it was meant to be functional, not decorative - they'd bring any serving dishes out during parties anyway. It works just fine for them.
Bedroom (http://www.flickr.com/photos/52177032@N04/4839803895/sizes/l/)
-Main Mod Offender-
This is Ellen's bedroom. She was always a girl who liked things tidy, so her room is usually Neatly made. Due to the window where her desk is being big, the curtain was put over her bed area to cut down on glare if need be. Even if there wasn't glare, it does look good.
Bonus Picture 1 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/52177032@N04/4839804709/sizes/l/)
If Gregory liked movies, the Hopeless Romantic Artist he had of a wife really liked them. And Gregory liked movies, so Cori did too. This part of the house, built on the top floor, was made to appear as a sort of movie theater and auditorium hybrid. You could also play video games up here, or read, but why do the latter here?
Bonus Picture 2 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/52177032@N04/4839803567/sizes/l/)
When they held parties, they usually held them out back, over here. In the area between the stairs and grill was another small set of counters for a place to wash dishes and store trash - something that Ellen's very thankful about.
Bonus Picture 3 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/52177032@N04/4840415642/sizes/l/)
For personal recreation, a lot of that happens up on the balcony. You can paint a picture, do a dance, watch the skies - you can spend a lot of time up here and enjoy it. There's an offshoot of the main balcony you can sit at, though, if you so wished to read a book without listening to music or someone trying to work out.

Your welcome, BGatot! As an insatiable downloader of CC I have learnt to recognise the word for 'download' in many different languages lol
I get an amazing amount of excellent stuff from the russian sims sites for example and although I can't speak a word of russian I now recognise enough 'sim related' words in russian to navigate the sites as well as in spanish and portuguese!
Do you think that means I can justify my hours spent browsing all the sites as being 'educational?

God I despise this round 3 foundation. AND we have less time this round. I'm holding off a bit, all I did was the atrium I'm making so far, but I think I might U turn, maybe go away from my modernz, maybeez?

Linen - Your entry will be counted for R2. I'll link it as your entry on the judging sheets. You posted very shortly after I closed the thread, so it'll be fine to count it.
Just, in future, please let me know if you are rushing to finish - I don't mind keeping the thread open for an extra hour or so. Drop into #create and blink me and I don't mind a bit leaving the thread open if you're almost done. :)

Gosh guys! I am usually a fast builder but I think that this one is going to take me awhile. Especially the landscaping. I have a base but whoo...this is going to give me a headache. Especially the screenshots!

The exterior of mine is done! Well, not the landscaping, just the building. It's exactly what I was aiming for and pretty impressive structurally for me so why do I hate it soooo much? Still have no idea about what to put in the hole... why no modular sofa in the Sims 3? Grrrr.

Yea with such a big foundation this time there is like so much to do with the house itself and walls will cover a lot of the parts of the gardens. So going to struggle to get all that into 8 pictures

I have not been able to get into chat for the longest time. it always says connection refused or not connected. It errors on Vista and Windows 7 whether I use the browser OR XChat... hmmm... lemme go try an xp machine...
ok.. the XP machine pops up that the certificate has expired and Windows firewall is automatically blocking the Java SE binary program from running. .... This app must be susceptible to the IRC chat viruses and worms..???
Yep. Firewall is blocking this chat app. :0/

Just in case you didn't know, if it is your savegame that's borked, Sims 3 always made a backup for each one, it has the same filename except with .backup added to it. Just remove the .backup from the filename and you got the last savegame back (the save before your failed save).
If it's your neighborhood files that's messed up, though... :( Maybe you could run chkdsk on your disks (if it's a PC)?
No, I tried that and it makes the neighbourhood disappear from the main menu. The thing is that I get an error when I try to enter my neighbourhood, I explain it here: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=414308
But thanks anyways (:

The stairs itself takes up 4 tiles, I think. A landing on either ends make it 6 tiles total.

Wow..the entrants keep on getting better and better and the foundations getting harder and harder. This one is a stinker BUT I made a decision..lol..having realised early on that I am nowhere in the running for any kind of prize, I've decided to make it a little easier for myself and stop refusing to use any kind of CC. Its' driving me NUTS having to use only EA stuff, even though I have all the store stuff and its adding to my stress!! Sooooo I'm gonna start using what I need to do the job to my own satisfaction and make it just a little less stressful! I feel SO much better now! All I have to do now is think of an idea for a weird foundation shape with a stupid hole in it........

Found so many different beautiful modern houses doing some research for this that I'm actually starting to take a liking for it.. And I usually go for the more soft summery type of places. Or asian (colours and soft fabrics!)

Oh, you aren't kidding! The roof is a real challenge. I just finished mine after working on it for a good half hour or so. And its still not how I wanted it, but in a surprise twist, something worked out and it looks decent. Give me the lucky trait please. Because I made a mistake of putting in a few windows first, and because I was unwilling to compromise and remove some, I had to work around it. Which isn't easy I've found out. Oh, WHAT DID I GET MYSELF INTO! *head explodes*
Seriously though, this is the most fun I've had all week. Please don't pity me.

Anyone know of any tricks to get the windows to not look so frosted? Trying to get a good shot but in live mode, the windows are very white rather than clear and it makes seeing inside rather difficult. I am already having issues with screenshots as it is.

Are you using tab key? I had some issues with reflections on my round 2 greenhouse and found that lower light levels worked better so if you're struggling you could try to take a pic around dusk/dawn.

30th Jul 2010, 7:15 AM
Yes...always use tab key. Which drives me nuts but the angles/quality of the pictures is SO much better than not using it. I am really anal about pictures. I usually end up taking at least 20-30 with tiny fractions of a difference between angles. I'm going to have to play with it a bit more. See if I can get the shot I want. If not, it's not a huge deal. Thank you. :)

the ceiling is made of the same wood type of the table? seems quite... weird! O_O

Yeah wasn't real sure what to do with it. Didn't want to leave it drab white. That would have clashed with the room. So for the time being I made the wood the same color as the table.
It's not the same EXACT wood though.

You think the same color and texture would work that I use on the fireplace and plant thingie? lol
See what happened was just for the sake of showing a little progress I done a quick crappy job of taking pics this morning and I just threw up a ceiling real quick so it wouldn't be showing the sky.

Green :lovestruc best color! And stripes!
Maybe if you make the overall wood a bit lighter and just make the contrast between the roof and the rest a bit more obvious. Just dark wood can get a bit heavy. It looks great though! So cosy with that fireplace in the corner and the flowers behind the sofa but yet more modern :)
PiT91
30th Jul 2010, 2:57 PM
Mmh, well, maybe, you could try. The only thing I think is that ceiling should be painted in a lighter color than the rest of the room, so it could make the room look bigger and brighter! =D
unless, of course, you're making some sort of cottage-thing that needs wood ceiling, or a stone house with stone ceiling. :)
edit: same as Kaospilot. =)

Okay...I am finally ready to show a preview of mine. I think I am going to wait to post. Pictures are driving me nuts so I feel like I could definitely get some better shots at some point. Plus, I haven't fully decided on my interior. Right now, I've got it sleek and up to date...you know loner recluse disappears into the woods but still enjoys the luxuries of modern appliances and expensive furnishings. Not sure if I am going to keep it that way though. And yes, it actually is playable. I spent a long time once I moved my Sim in moving trees and such so she could use the stairs and swim in the "lake". No title or story yet but it is definitely still a work in progress.
