View Full Version : Changing clothing recolor GUID in SimPE?

I hope this is the right place to ask this, since this isn't about Body Shop but it is about clothing. I'm sorry if it's not; please move it to the appropriate forum!

OK, on with the question...

I have only "The Sims: Life Stories", so I was jipped out of Body Shop. However, the Sims2Wiki has a quick tutorial on recoloring clothing using SimPE. I followed it, and it does in fact work! The problem is, I don't know how to change the GUID, so whatever file I use is overwritten in-game.

If someone could tell me how to, or link me to a tutorial for, changing clothing GUIDs in SimPE, I'd be really appreciative!

A link to the tutorial you used would be helpful. If I don't know what you did, I'm not sure how to help!

Thanks so much for replying! I'm really noobish when it comes to editing clothing at all, let alone with the little tutorial I had. Here's the link:

http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Clothing_recolor_using_SimPE

It says that it modifies existing files, which was obvious even to me, thankfully. XD So I'm hoping someone might be able to explain how I can change that using SimPE. I'm assuming, in my cluelessness, that it's to do with the GUID, anyway...But there's a very high probability that I'm wrong.

Thanks again!

Hmmm... I've never played with The Sims: Life Stories, so I don't know quite how the whole clothing thing works. You could try saving the clothing package by a different name after you've made your changes. Like if you were working on a package called "afbodydressblue" and you changed it to green, you could call it "afbodydressmygreendress". I'm not sure if that would work or not.

If you really want to get into editing clothing, I would suggest getting at least the base game for The Sims 2. It's been out for a while, so it shouldn't be that expensive. Most of the tutorials are written for that (rather than The Sims: Life Stories), so you'll be able to get a lot more help, too.

Good luck!

Thanks for replying again!

To the best of my knowledge, the clothing system works the same for LS as it does for basegame TS2. I have so, so much custom junk in the game, it's almost scary. If I had a way to access Body Shop, I don't think it'd be an issue.

I'm going to try completely changing the name as you suggested, and see if that does any good. All I did was copy-paste the file into the same folder, and it just tacked "copy of" onto the front of the name. We shall see what I can figure out!

It's not so much getting TS2 basegame as it is whether or not this computer can run it. It's only a netbook (as both of our desktops bit the dust ON THE SAME DAY, no less), so I'm not sure if it could handle anything other than LS...Though I suppose all my custom stuff lends to the size of the whole thing!

Thanks again!
