I think that they're supposed to be rival mascots.

Exactly. The home team is the Sim City Llamas, as is evidenced by various references scattered throughout the game, the most relevant being the "Fighting Llamas" poster and the team mascot costume your sim wears when starting the athletic career.

I feel that my beloved Cephalopods from Miskatonik U. have been given short shrift on this, and this oversight WILL be addressed.

When the stars are right.

Oh, don't apologize, it didn't dawn on me until a few months ago... that damned cow was from a rival team/school! I couldn't figure out why the hell he/she kept harrassing my students at university and disrupting their activities until I made that connection.

And know you know. Knowing is half the battle, etc...

Don't be afraid to ask questions here. :)

Thanks for pointing out what should have been a glaringly obvious typo, Mort. And it was still there after I had edited the post twice!

I need more coffee.

I noticed that when I was editing posts yesterday too - whenever I tried to edit, it wouldn't update the post. Was wondering if the board admins are aware of this little problem?

They're aware of it, and trying to fix it.

About the whole Llama/Cow rivalry though...if the Cows are from a rival university,

1) Why are they rivals to all three universities that are otherwise unaffiliated? (ie, the Cows rival Sim State, La Fiesta Tech, and the Academie'. Isn't that making waaay to many enemies/fighting a war on too many fronts? You know, the one thing that you're never supposed to do from a strategic standpoint?)

2) If the Cows are their rivals, then why is the Cowplant the reward you get for majoring in Science? Wouldn't they want to avoid any and all affiliation with Cows?

This whole "rivalry" story doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense at times. *suspicious* :wtf:

Hahaha...what's really funny about it, Jo,is that wasn't even one of the typos the two previous edits were trying to fix.

I love teh interwebs...it's the only place I can be a complete ass without fear of death or a well deserved fist to the gob.

But if you have your graphic detail on high and you zoom in on the SS blazers, they have llama patches on them!

The nice thing is, in a fight the llama will usually whip the cow, because the llama has maxed his Body skill, and the cow, zero.

1) As Mort pointed out, the Cow mascot may very well be an "outward and visible sign" of the secret society. Not sure why a "secret" society would have a mascot, but who knows?

2) Well, there are a few possible reasons for this. First, the Sim City students may be mocking and ridiculing the Cow's home team/organization-sort of like the effigies they burn on Guy Fawkes Day (please feel free to correct my spelling, Jo) in Gran Breton. Or, they could have just gene spliced the handiest ungulate with a Venus' fly-trap, which is named not for the goddess herself, but in a rather derogatory way for a portion of her anatomy. I have never milked a llama, but have been told they don't care for it much and will kick and spit at you. That being the case, they may have opted for a more docile critter.

When I was a boy, my school mascot was the Wolverine, a creature so ill tempered and vicious that no other creature wants anything to do with it, including other wolverines. I can only imagine trying to milk one of those.

You have to hit Edit, then copy and paste the text back to where it was, click Preview Post, then scroll down to Save Changes. That is what worked for me. At least it saves your changes if it doesn't go through the first time.

Thanks for that, Shoosh. I wouldn't even be having issues if I would proofread my posts instead of being so dazzled by my own brilliance and wit that I just send it off into the aether.

At least yours wasn't a horribly racist stereotype which could very easily have gotten the school sued. Having one of the (obviously white, and wearing rather thick glasses) school staff dress up in Native American headgear, moccasins, and "warpaint" while shirtless waving around a tomahawk=incredibly awkward. At least for me. I always tended to cringe whenever he came out, and it always bothered me that I seemed to be the only one who had a problem with it. It's also not like it can be just brushed off as being from a "different time." I'm only 27, I graduated in May of 2001!

On a lighter note, my uncle who used to live in Florida had an old University tee with a Banana Slug wearing sunglasses as the mascot. I never did get a chance to ask him where he got it...I kinda wanted one.

Kinda makes me jealous with all your American (I'm assuming mainly American?) team mascots.
I live in Australia, and I don't think my school even HAS a mascot. Well how could you when you have team names like "The Spirits".
.. In case you hadn't guessed, Catholic Private schooling at it's best. LOL.

heh. It's not like my school have team mascots either. In fact, none of the schools in my country have one, I think.

...Now all I can think of is Harvey Birdman, Attorney-at-Law.
Actually, that would be kind of awesome to have as a mascot.

The Banana Slug is the mascot of Santa Cruz. (It's easily my favorite mascot EVER.)

I tell my 8-year-old son that! Llama is good, cow is bad! (He has a developmental delay but I think he gets the picture.)

He also tells me "Mama play Sims" because he likes to watch.

The nice thing is, in a fight the llama will usually whip the cow, because the llama has maxed his Body skill, and the cow, zero.

I notice that the Llama has also maxed his creativity skill -- sometimes he just shows up, sits down at the piano, and plays beautifully until 4 in the morning and then leaves.

All the cow does is light matches under the sprinklers.

Cows are a pain but if your Sim beats them with Mrs. Crumplebottom's purse (simwardrobe.com), they run off and don't come back for a while.

I don't mind the llamas and cheerleaders. Often a Sim will roll a want for join group research, and that's where these guys come in handy.

Awww...that's so cute! My 3 boys used to love playing The Sims, but they outgrew it and now pat me on the head when I play and promise that they'll make sure the old folks home allows computers. My daughter probably won't outgrow it though...I've noticed more female players than male.

Ohh, that's why there was a cow mascot! I'm so stupid. lol! I hate the cow mascot... then again, I think the llama's annoying.
